Mohir
by Mohir  7-22-2008    3
Furthermore, electric characterization of devices showed that the hybrid FETs’ performance outpace those of amorphous silicon TFTs, and rival with the actual state of the art of oxide thin film transistors. These results suggest promising new disposable electronics devices, like paper displays, smart labels, smart packaging, bio-applications, RFID tags, among others. te

There is no climate crisis: Hoax revealed
willhelm
by willhelm  7-17-2008    47
The IPCC’s 2007 climate summary overstated CO2’s impact on temperature by 500-2000%; CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100; Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly; The IPCC’s values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500; The IPCC’s values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated; “Global warming” halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years; Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling; The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists’ draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%; Mars, Jupiter, Neptune’s largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed; In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.

"Cap and Trade" NO GOOD
merrie
by merrie  6-5-2008
In these turbulent economic times, Democrats are proposing to increase the price of gas, outsource millions of jobs to overseas providers, and create a massive new bureaucracy funded by your (additional) tax dollars. The World Resources Institute reports that, "air pollution in some Chinese cities is among the highest ever recorded, averaging more than ten times the standard proposed by the World Health Organization... In Beijing, 40 percent of autos surveyed and 70 percent of taxis failed to meet the most basic emission standards." USA Today reports that, " ecades of... pollution have allowed industrial poisons to leach into groundwater, contaminating drinking supplies and leading to a rash of cancers, residents say. In this village, where the air has a distinctive sour odor, the rate of cancer is more than 18 times the national average. Meanwhile, the world's worst polluters continue choking the atmosphere with toxic fumes and poisons.

Joseph Campbell and the Hero
Aribeth
by Aribeth  4-18-2008    3
  * Woman as Temptress (the subsequent horror--woman now represents the flesh, which must be transcended) * At-one-ment with the Father, who is also "good" (merciful, provident) and "bad" (threatening, terrible)--initiation into the Father's office * Apotheosis--attainment of divine state beyond ignorance: transcendence of oppositions male/female and time/eternity * The Ultimate Boon--immortality (often depicted as inexhaustible matter, e.g., food and drink) = perfect illumination, transcendence of all being 3) Return: benefit to group/human race (selflessness) * Refusal of the Return--again, only a possibility: if the hero wants to remain in the ecstasy of illumination * The Magic Flight (if necessary--i.e., if there is opposition) * Rescue from Without (if necessary) * The Crossing of the Return Threshold--hero must "survive the impact of the world"
