POPS"State Secret: Thousands Secretly Sterilized"
Sterilized Without Her Knowledge Riddick was raped and became pregnant at the age of 13. Social workers labeled her promiscuous and too feeble-minded to ever be a responsible parent. So, after giving birth in 1968, Riddick was sterilized without being told. She learned the truth years later, when she married and tried to have more children. "They took so much away from me," Riddick said. "They took away my spirit and my soul." North Carolina sterilized close to 8,000 women in hospitals across the state. Even though the practice ended more than 30 years ago, some say the time has come to make amends. North Carolina was one of the first states out of 33 that once practiced sterilization to offer an apology. State Rep. Larry Womble is crafting a bill to provide financial reparations. Some wonder where the state will get the money. "They say, 'Well, we can't afford it,' " said Womble, a Democrat. "Well, we cannot not afford it." Riddick went on to earn a college degree

POPSCanada PM delays imminent defeat This man once professed admiration for our little Johnny Howard. The inspiration doesn't appear to be lasting. Howard modelled himself on the biggest bludger of a PM that we ever had, Pig-Iron Bob Menzies. Sold scrap metal to Japan in the lead up to WW2. No "f" in brains, is there.

POPS It's Priceless by Thomas Sowell . . . . . while the politicians take credit for generosity and compassion. Employers are ideal targets for such mandates, since there are always more employees than employers, and that is what counts on election day. Whether it is health insurance, time off with pay or whatever, these mandates on employers can be washed down with a little rhetoric about business' "social responsibilities." Where those "social responsibilities" come from is not a problem. It sounds good, and that is good enough for politics. While you are enjoying all the goodies that politicians are sending your way, you may notice that your taxes are going up or that the money you earn or the money you have saved won't buy as much as it used to. Costs that are passed on to businesses can get passed on again to their customers in higher prices. Money that the government prints to spend itself reduces the value of the money in your wallet or in your bank account.
