POPSWe Need To Do Better For Our Military Much of the study focused on 4th Brigade, home unit to most of the violent crime suspects. 4th Brigade was compared head-to-head with 3rd Brigade, which recently returned from Iraq. The 4th Brigade, now in Afghanistan, has suffered a higher casualty rate than other units its size in two deployments, the Army found, losing lives at a rate more than eight times that of 3rd Brigade. Along with the deaths came intense combat that took a mental toll on troops, the Army found. Soldiers in 4th Brigade were more likely than other soldiers to suffer mental illness. The study also found, though, that soldiers feel their careers can be damaged by seeking mental health help and too often feel that enlisted leaders don't support troops with mental illness. POPSMedical Insurance Fat Cats Working to Fleece Regular Citizens
In the election Obama promised comprehensive and affordable health care to every citizen including the 47 million people without medical insurance. But when he came into office after seven months his concessions to medical insurance companies and drug companies are so glaring that the White House has to conceal the details of what is health care plans are really about from supporters because he doesn’t dare tell those who are organizing for his healthcare reform the details of his exceptions and bailouts for Insurance agencies. No longer is there talk of a public option, now the administration just mumbles about a purposed health co-op. If you think about it health care should be a basic responsibility of society. In a system where profit is at the heart of what rulers and regulators are trying to do then people don’t have a right to get their medicals needs met. There are 45,000 unnecessary deaths in America because people don’t have health insurance. And the for profit system of h

POPSAHIP Declares War On the U.S. Read the article and then DO SOMETHING! Following are a couple more paragraphs to whet your curiosity. "For many years America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) have been fighting an undeclared war on US citizens. According to the Harvard Study cited recently by Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), lack of health insurance and denials of legitimate claims kill more Americans each month than died in the attacks on the World Trade Center. When Al-Qaeda or Nazi Germany declared war on the United States, their intent was to kill US citizens and to cause economic collapse in the United States. That’s how a modern war works. The study released by PWC and commissioned by AHIP reveals the arsenal the Health Insurance companies plan to use in the coming war. They are going to kill Americans by putting the price of health care out of reach. They are planning to kill their paying customers by finding new ways to deny care."

POPSEnding death penalty could save US millions More: Dieter says that keeping execution while reducing its costs is not realistic. If less money is spent on appeals, he argues, the risk of executing an innocent person will increase. He said that ultimately, execution does not deter crime as its supporters hope. Capital punishment has been abolished in most western democracies, and after it was eliminated in the US state of New Jersey in 2007, the state saw its murder rate decline. Dieter cites a poll of 500 local police chiefs, which was paid for by the DPIC and released on Tuesday, showing support for ending capital punishment. The survey found that the police chiefs see the death penalty as the least effective tool in deterring crime. They suggest more efficient use of resources -- such as boosting funding for drug and alcohol abuse programs.

POPSObama raise drone attacks
The obscenity of this policy is seldom mentioned. " the drone attacks have backfired. As he told The New Yorker, "Every one of these dead non-combatants represents an alienated family, a new revenge feud, and more recruits for a militant movement that has grown exponentially even as drone strikes have increased." And because of the C.I.A. program's secrecy, Mayer writes, "there is no visible system of accountability in place, despite the fact that the agency has killed many civilians inside a politically fragile, nuclear-armed country with which the U.S. is not at war." The New Yorker further reports the Obama Administration has also expanded the sphere of authorized drone assaults in Afghanistan. An August Senate Foreign Relations Committee report said the Pentagon's list of approved terrorist targets held 367 names and included some 50 Afghan drug lords "who are suspected of giving money to help finance the Taliban," Mayer reports. She quotes the Senate report as stating, "The

POPSObama Appointee Lauded NAMBLA Figure Ayers, of course, is the Weather Underground bomber from the 1960s who is just an "acquaintance" of Obama. Every presidential administration ends up with scandals inspired by controversial appointees, but typically those tend to revolve around financial improprieties, conflicts of interest, or some other form of white-collar misconduct. For Obama, the scandals seem to be develping in a pattern of disclosures revolving around radical left ideology that raises questions about their fitness for any job in government. And that in turn raises the inevitable question: Is nobody minding the White House personnel store? By: Mark Tapscott Editorial Page Editor

POPSBacteria Have Role in Swine Flu Deaths Earlier CDC reports found that H1N1 swine flu deaths tended to be caused by direct infection of the lungs with the new flu bug. That may have caused doctors to let down their guard against bacterial infections in flu patients. the CDC now advises doctors who suspect bacterial infections in swine flu patients to treat them with anti-flu drugs and antibiotics. The CDC report carries dramatic examples of H1N1 swine flu deaths with bacterial infections: * A 2-month-old girl, with no known underlying condition, died with pneumococcal infection after an illness of only one day. * A 9-year-old girl with no reported underlying condition died with a strep infection after an illness of six days. * A 34-year-old man with high blood pressure and obesity died with pneumococcal infection after an illness of about three days.

POPSNigeria-Italy Human Trafficking Rises Sharply Every time I read about this issue I feel that a part of our humanity is dying. There are so many good people in the world. I just hope the balance stays to the good. A conference of women’s group’s was held in Rome Sep 9-10 to raise issues such as rape, domestic violence, female genital mutilation, access to education, and violence against young girls. While the U.N. report says most victims of traffickers are women and girls, they are also the majority among perpetrators in 30% of the countries that provided evidence on the gender of traffickers. Many former victims, pushed by psychological or financial reasons, become traffickers. According to Nigeria’s Women's Promotion and Child Protection, the government of Nigeria is doing a lot to stop human trafficking. But since the numbers are on the increase, I submit that they are not doing enough.

POPSNew facts and new troubles for Mexico
The estimated million plus Mexicans returning to Mexico plus the many more who choose to stay home, when earlier they would have gone to the other side, means more pressure on the nation's development. In this situation the country's GDP shrunk nine percent in the first quarter and a bit over ten percent in the second one. Whatever fiscal and economic reforms the government has planned are still being planned. The president insists on using his power to fight a useless losing drug war and effectively sabotaged the economy by locking the nation down for a month so that we wouldn't get the flu. The country cannot provide opportunities to vast swaths of the population. Now there is another swath to add to the others: returning illegal immigrants and others. Vast numbers of young unemployed kids whose skills are mainly in how to break the law and profit by it somehow are swelling the populace of Mexico's provincial backwaters (where most illegal immigrants come from) quite outside the a

POPSStunted outlook on neglect of kids " What can the United States do? The State Department each year publishes heavily researched reports on human rights, drug trafficking, religious freedom and human trafficking. All of these are important topics. But is any of them as critical as saving a billion children from life as a mental cripple? Why not a new report, on human nutrition, with appropriate penalties for the nations that neglect their children?"
