POPSA Green Spot in London Can Jog Innovative Adaptation in US? You can't just copy things, as lots of folks imagine but you can adapt them to fit your local area. Remember that some really fine television dramas and comedies from the UK were well adapted ot the US market and became big hits. That's just one of the reasons, I am high on the news that Cate Trotter brings in her green hunt in London. Then ther's the fact that she is a good writer and good writing and photography about good news is a good thing to share!

POPSRussian News: American capitalism gone with a whimper
This Russian Newspaper (Pravda) article continues... Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish. Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. POPSAmerican capitalism gone with a whimper
Found in Russian newspaper Pravda. The author hits on some painful truths. The American population is dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather than the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas than the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. We care more for our "right" to choke down a fast food burger than for our constitutional rights. Then we lecture the world about rights and democracy. We so desperately wanted a change from Bushco that Barack Obama looked like the obvious answer. Be careful for what you wish for. His first three months has been devoted to spending money faster than at any time in American history. If this keeps up for another year America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe. To top it off, there is a planned redesign of the tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dol

POPSAmerica: From a Russian Perspective
First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America. The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world.

POPSOh ah Cantona, the King, their player of the century. Now a film star Cantona, a mercurial, brooding and inspired player during his years of glory in Manchester in the 1990s, reveals an unexpected comic touch as he takes occasional puffs on a joint and dispenses life advice to his namesake and fan Eric Bishop. Loach said Cantona, who co-produced the picture and has made a number of films since ending his playing career more than a decade ago, "acts like he plays football, with flair and creativity". The film plays with his image as an unpredictable genius given to gnomic pronouncements as he materialises in "Little Eric's" terraced house and sets about restoring the self-confidence of a man crippled by regrets about the past. "I am not a man, I am Cantona," he declares superbly at one point before taking out a trumpet and delivering an uncertain performance of "The Marseillaise".

POPSFrom the Heartland Good for Iowa for stepping out of the perceived stereotype of the close minded and ultra conservative mid-westerner. People of conscience and fairness seem to not adhere to geographical boundaries.

POPSJust Grit And Heart "The film is loaded with such moments of revelation, especially when the students are asked to write -- and then read aloud -- portraits of themselves, which are full of idealistic aspiration, raw emotion and biographical surprises."

POPSMore Reality TV in Networks' Future = Fewer Eyes Scripted one-hour dramas in the 10p slots where content can be more adult-friendly are evidently on the way out, at least for networks. The value of cable just went up. Cable has to retain tight control over its shows to keep their value, at least insofar as the interweb is concerned. It's Netflix that gets cable shows to me anyway. $60/month is too much. The good news is, cable's doing some great entertainment, dare I say the best entertainment -- next to indie films.

POPSThe Good Tease In seeking to protect our children from bullying and aggression, we risk depriving them of a most remarkable form of social exchange. In teasing, we learn to use our voices, bodies and faces, and to read those of others — the raw materials of emotional intelligence and the moral imagination. We learn the wisdom of laughing at ourselves, and not taking the self too seriously. We learn boundaries between danger and safety, right and wrong, friend and foe, male and female, what is serious and what is not. We transform the many conflicts of social living into entertaining dramas. No kidding. Dacher Keltner is a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and an editor of the magazine Greater Good. His latest book, “Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life,” from which this essay is adapted, will be published next month by Norton.
