POPSAnalogy du jour Real whores, after all, personally supply the services their customers seek. Prostitutes do not steal; their customers pay them voluntarily. And their customers pay only with money belonging to these customers. Go to site for additional info. In contrast, members of Congress routinely truck and barter with other people's property... Members of Congress are less like whores than they are like pimps for persons unwillingly conscripted to perform unpleasant services.

POPSBlackpool Conservatives accused.
The sweet smell of hypocrisy wafts round Blackpool like a ruptured effluent pipe out into the Irish Sea. For years the public have ignored the murmurings of ‘irregularity’ in local politics because not a single body appeared to have the stomach or authority to confront dubious activities. The imagination with which politicians interpret rules to suit themselves is farcical and responsible for the moral cesspit that governs public perception. Where are simple ethics of Right and Wrong? Definitely not in Westminster and the country might say, not in many council offices. It is this perception that prevents perfectly decent people from entering politics and playing an active role in society. When Steve Flanigan resigned as Treasurer of the Blackpool South Conservatives, there was not a murmur. The fact that a leading councillor had received donations of £250 from the late George Thompson of the Pleasure Beach and had chosen not to immediately declare it to the Treasurer is and was

Since there's been this leak do you think anything will be done to expedite this? Sadly, they will serve out their terms and may even be re-elected. :~(

POPS5 now in custody in Richmond High gang rape Follow up on previous rape clip I posted. This is one of the most appalling clips I have posted and I was even hesitant in posting it but people have got to be aware of this kind of crime and what happens right here in this country. The clip is not only appalling but the actions of the people that witnessed the rape are as guilty as the people who committed the crime. I just don't understand that not even one person would not come to the aid of this poor girl. I fear that poor girl will never recover to any state of normalcy after what has happened to her. My heart certainly goes out to her and her family. How to help Richmond High School is accepting cards and donations for the victim and her family. They can be mailed to the school at 1250 23rd St., Richmond, CA 94804-1011. Make checks out to the Richmond High Student Fund. POPSDemocratic Donors Rewarded With White House Perks
Presidential aides said there has been no systematic effort to use the White House complex to aid fundraising, though they acknowledge the DNC has paid for some events at the presidential mansion. Many guests at the White House not only had fundraising connections, but also have personal friendships with the president, Mr. Obama's aides said. "Contributing does not guarantee a ticket to the White House, nor does it prohibit the contributor from visiting," said Dan Pfeiffer, deputy White House communications director. • See White House response to story: White House touts ethics in rewards for fundraisers Presidential aides said there has been no systematic effort to use the White House complex to aid fundraising, though they acknowledge the DNC has paid for some events at the presidential mansion. POPSGuess Who Wants to Control the Internet? On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took up the issue of "net neutrality" and Senator John McCain's efforts to create one of those ironically named pieces of legislation that sounds like it is going to deliver something good -- in this case "Internet Freedom" -- but would actually make the Internet suck out loud, forever and ever. POPS Keith Olbermann Helps Raiise $1.2 Million For Free Health Care Clinics
Wednesday night on "Countdown," Olbermann announced that, thanks to the generosity of "Countdown" viewers, a health fair would take place in New Orleans on November 14. This is on top of health fairs already planned for November 9-10 in Kansas City and November 21 in Little Rock. How did this idea come about? "We were looking for something to relieve the frustration so many people felt," Olbermann told the Huffington Post. "I thought of an insurance strike, but insurrectionist as that might sound, it would endanger lives. So Rich Stockwell, one of my Senior Producers, suggested that the Free Health Clinics group turns every dollar donated into five in services. Thus if we helped them stage clinics in the key cities, we'd get help to thousands of people, we'd relieve that sense of near-paralysis, and we might even put some pressure on those Democratic Senators who won't even commit to precluding a filibuster. So this one was Rich's."

POPSCITIZENS RISING TO DEFEND CONSTITUTION
153 citizen-nominated-and-elected Delegates - three from each state and Washington, D.C. -- will convene for two weeks to methodically and factually document constitutional abuses which have taken place over many years, across many administrations, every branch of government and both parties. Delegates will consider specific non-violent, legal civic actions to stop the wrongs. Citizens are invited to nominate delegates who have a "proven passion for the Constitution," by visiting http://www.cc2009.us. "Perhaps you know a great patriot who is a neighbor, a family member, or associate," says Schulz. Delegates will make their own way to Illinois, but room and board will be covered by donations. The decision to convene CC2009 comes after fourteen years of filing Petitions for Redress with the federal government for repeated violations of the Constitution by We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education, a national 501 c3 non-profit with headquarters in New York. Schulz says

POPSWho Does Our Government Work For?
The table would not clip, go to source to see it and learn more. Among the 61 recipients of these joint contributions are 11 senators who sit on the 23-member Senate Finance Committee. Four other Democratic senators on the Finance committee also received such contributions: Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.), Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Deborah Stabenow (D-Mich.). - averaging about $19,800 in contributions per person from these clients and their external lobbyists during the two-and-a-half year period studied. On the other side of the aisle, 60 percent(!!) of the Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee were found to have accepted campaign contributions from these major health-related organizations and their outside lobbyists. Republican lawmakers received an average of $67,700 per person from these clients and their external lobbyists Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) received the most in such contributions, with $130,620. Who are they working for?? Not you

POPSHow to Send Donations to Victims of Typhoon Ondoy Hurricane Katrina poured 250 millimeters of rain over New Orleans in 2005 with catastrophic results… but compare this to Typhoon Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana), which dumped a record 455 millimeters of rain in Quezon City over a 24-hour period. As a result, a large portion of the metropolis were flooded, with the waters reaching six meters in depth in some areas. Our kababayans desperately need your help. Every little bit counts.

POPSACORN's Corporate Donors Backing Off Banks and other financial institutions have given millions of dollars and other forms of support to ACORN for decades in response to boycott threats from the organization, as well as accusations of racism and other forms of discrimination in granting personal loans and mortgages. The ACORN campaigns followed passage of the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which was designed to pressure financial institutions to loosen lending standards in order to increase home ownership among poor and minority communities. Legislation strengthening CRA during the Clinton administration greatly encouraged such ACORN activities. Dissident current and former officials of ACORN claim that donations made to AHC and other affiliates are often misappropriated. “There’s no guarantee that any donations are going where they are supposed to be going,” said Ron Sykes, treasurer of the Washington D.C. ACORN and a member of the ACORN 8.

POPSRight, so tell me again how the "free market" is the best way to manage health-care delivery An editorial from 2007 shows how research into three promising anticancer drugs has been abandoned. The reason is that the compounds on which the drugs are based cannot be patented (melatonin, for example), which means that pharma companies are unlikely to turn a profit. Understandable, from the perspective of the pharma companies, but unconscionable, from the perspective of cancer patients.
