Don Imus on the Scandal that Got him fired: "It should have happened."
zizzy
by zizzy  1-16-2009    1
I just happened to come upon this interview last night. Kudos to Don Imus and I hope a lesson to all who supported that racist moment. Sean Hannity wasn't very happy with Don Imus because he wanted Imus to affirm his hateful self. But Don Imus didn't fall into that trap. Kudos again.

The cycle of indoctrinating hate
willhelm
by willhelm  4-11-2008
"I wonder if it's ever occurred to Obama and Wright that it probably doesn't help young people in the black community when they're told that their country hates them, that the U.S. government gave them drugs and AIDS, and that jail and genocide are the officially-sanctioned plan for them." "The government gives them drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America,'" shouted Wright at his congregation. "No, no, no. God damn America. That's in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme." "I wonder if Obama ever considered the negative impact on young blacks from listening to these hateful and anti-white tirades. It's not as if Obama is blind to the influence of hate speech. When Don Imus made one careless remark about black female athletes, Obama was among the first to call for his firing."

Bill O'Reilly Must Go!!
zasel
by zasel  2-23-2008    1
This is not a matter of free speech. This is the matter of a well known, extremely popular and influential media maven, who is suggesting that if Michelle Obama actually has some negative feelings about the country, she should be lynched. Don Imus was thrown off the air for referring to a women's basketball team as "nappy headed ho's." David Schumer, a well respected and generally fair-minded journalist was suspended for suggesting employing a poor choice of words regarding Chelsea Clinton's participation in her mom's presidential primary campaign. But Bill O'Reilly, for some reason has been declared untouchable by Fox News after making this hateful and racist comment, not the first time I might add that he has used similar inflammatory language. It is time for the public to demand that O'Reilly be held accountable for his irresponsible and hateful speech. Please call or email Fox and demand his removal from our airwaves.

Who Hijacked The Primaries And What We MUST Do!
merrie
by merrie  1-31-2008    1
This is our party, not John McCain’s or Mel Martinez's, or Lindsay Graham’s. The Republican Party is THE conservative party dammit. Let’s admit it and take it back. RINOS and Liberals have taken the GOP plane hostage, and its time for us passengers to revolt…and do what has to be done -- "Let’s Roll" Sadly these 4 states have done more than set the tone for the other 46 -- they’ve dictated terms. Frankly I could extend the analogy to include Nevada, which is down to about 13% native -- but why beat a dead horse. What we have is the sick and twisted dreams of Pinch Sulzberger, Don Imus, Maureen Dowd, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews come true: the GOP has been forced to choose a nominee designed to cause the base to retch, and thereby not vote. Guaranteeing 4 years of Clinton score settling or Obama socializing entire corporate sectors

Notes on a (bunch of) Scandals
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  1-2-2008    5
This seems to represent one of the most perplexing American of phenomena. Our tolerance of serial idiots. Why is it that we invite them back? Why is it so hard to ruin your reputation? I don't believe the author is write, regurgitating the hackneyed "short attention span" argument. Something way more complicated is going on than that. Perhaps we let them come back because we secretly want more. More of the easy, mindless answers they give us. More of the distracting scandal that makes us feel better about ourselves. The author ignores the 700 lbs. Gorilla in the "train wreck" room: George W. Bush. After all his failures and deceptions, why do people still trust him? Do we really run from the truth? Or is it that watching their failures verifies our own righteousness? Nader said it best: he would rather see Bush president than Gore, because Bush would prove him right.

Well, Ron Kuby, you weren't a civil rights lawyer there. You were a radio personality. And guess who is better.Sorry. And he didn't take YOUR job. YOUR job is now defunct. Imus does a different job. Now, if Imus will keep the politics, the interviews, a bit of satire, but lose the shock(offensive) style schtick, step up the intelligent part and ease off on the sophomoric part, he'll be able to grow "old" gracefully, and fill a gap in morning radio. Later get a station in D.C. and maybe more markets later, it'll be good.

Tucker Carlson, Enraged by flirtation... HUH?
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  9-2-2007    4
This is so typical of Tucker. His 'Locker Room' mentality permeates throughout his whole show. Tell me, "Why the hell did they throw, Phil Donahue off and put the likes of this immature idiot on?" Could it possibly be, that the average viewer of MSNumbedBC has the same EQ (emotional intelligence) as the likes of Tucker? If they would rather watch Carlson's banal rhetoric than spend an hour of intelligent conversations and great knowledge brought forth by someone like Phil, I guess we all know the answer to that question. Yet, this sometime bow-tied, sometime neck-tied schmuck should at least, keep his spew non-violent. When he crosses the line of civility and advocates on-the-air, that gays who go into men's rest-rooms should be battered if they are construed to look at you cross-eyed, then, even those who somehow enjoy his clownish conduct should object! THEY THREW DON IMUS UNDER THE BUS FOR LESS THAN THAT, at least Imus, was just an obnoxious clod and didn't champion brutality!

Bush nominates Don Imus for 5th Circuit Court of Appeals
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  5-19-2007
Two state appeals court judges pointed out in a dissent: "The word 'nigger' is, and always has been, offensive. Search high and low, you will not find any non-offensive definition for this term." During a Senate Judiciary Committee last week on Southwick's nomination, Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., said of the "teacher's pet" concept: "To me, that's a pretty shocking piece of analysis." Southwick sought to backpedal: "That does not now seem convincing to me." Southwick is a Texas native who graduated from Rice University and the University of Texas Law School. He moved to Mississippi to clerk for a U.S. appeals court judge and stayed there, except for a Justice Department stint in the Bush-41 administration.
