POPSHuge Majority Support Offshore Drilling The opposition is not based on the logic of drilling but on a desire to strangle domestic production to drive up the price of energy so they can invest in "magic" energy that will supposedly create millions of green jobs and not be based on carbon. These people are out of touch with voters and the GOP needs to do a better job of pushing the issues so that the Democrats will eventually pay a political price for their obstruction of energy production. POPSFacts About US Energy How long are we going to allow our government to prohibit us from accessing our OWN ENERGY? Heck all this talk about the economy and yet we let billions and billions of dollars sit in the ground while we ship our money to other countries to buy their resources that they are more than happy to sell. WAKE UP AMERICA before we are all living in the DARK LITERALLY!

POPSClunkers: Taxpayers paid $24,000 per car In order to determine whether these sales would have happened anyway, Edmunds.com analysts looked at sales of luxury cars and other vehicles not included under the Clunkers program. Using traditional relationships between sales volumes of those vehicles and the types of vehicles sold under Cash for Clunkers, Edmunds.com projected what sales would normally have been during the Cash for Clunkers period and in the weeks after. Edmunds.com's estimate of the ultimate sales increase generally matches what industry experts had thought, said George Pipas, a sales analyst with Ford Motor Co. But that misses the point, he said. "The whole purpose of the program was to provide some kind of catalyst to kick-start the economy," he said, "and by all accounts the extra production that was added this year was a boost to the economy." Emunds.com's projection indicates that, without Cash for Clunkers, October's sales increase would be even higher.

POPSU.K. Economic Contraction Is Longest on Record The British economy has now contracted for six successive quarters, making this the longest downturn since the agency started its data series in 1955. And it is starting to further lag behind the 16-member euro area, where France and Germany are contributing to broad improvements in manufacturing, services and consumer demand. Jean-Michel Six, chief European economist at Standard & Poor’s, said the divergence appeared to stem from the higher level of consumer indebtedness in Britain. “U.K. consumers are coming out of a period of very significant leveraging, and the process of unwinding that is long and painful,” he said. “You would expect savings rates to grow and credit demand to fall, weighing on the economy.” Meanwhile, German business confidence in October rose to its highest level in 13 months, according to the Ifo economic research institute in Munich.

POPSObama: $2.4 billion electric vehicle grants
So cool. So many positive programs have been put on track by President Obama it's amazing! On domestic and foreign policy, he's second to none. Of course, now we have to hope there won't be a crash landing. Crash landings are possible for everything in life. There certainly is a lot of risk, not with the money spent so much as the Guarantee and Backup Insurance the government has pledged. But...for every economic issue you could probably have a five-way debate, but the fact is people are buying cars again, big bucks is being put into alternative energy cars (and other alternative energy programs), home sales and prices starting to stabilize, banks making profits instead of going out of business....and good people programs also happening and the major achievement of national health care may finally happen. P.S. It's only our warmongering Republicans, neo-cons, racist and right-wing nut jobs and corrosive, toxic media that makes it sound different. The real picture is clear p

POPSThe Role of the Mexican Military in the Cartel War The subtext here is simple: the Mexican military is just one more cartel in the cartel war. Another subtext is that U.S. drug czar Gil Kerlikowske wants the US and Mexico to focus on so-called prevention and treatment, etc etc. This is quite politically correct but it means even more interference in Mexican society than before: people will be sent to reeducation camps instead of to jail, etc etc. Therefore, the bait and switch is still on: the war on drugs is destroying Mexican society far more than the drugs ever could or would. The next step, if U.S. drug czar Gil Kerlikowske has his way, is for it to begin destroying individual autonomy...

POPS Watch What Obama Does, Not What He Says But capacity can be increased only gradually, and that's if more production is being encouraged rather than prevented. To think that wind and solar or other alternative fuels can fill the energy gap requires a belief in what Adriel Bettelheim of Congressional Quarterly has called the "Tinkerbell effect," as in Peter Pan. It consists of believing something will happen just because you wish it would. Wind and solar now provide less than 1 percent of America's energy needs. The likelihood, based on projections by experts, is that oil and gas must be relied on overwhelmingly to meet the country's energy needs for at least two more decades. But amazingly enough, the Obama administration is worried about domestic "overproduction" of oil and gas. So Obama has proposed removing all tax incentives to produce oil and gas, slapping a 13 percent excise tax on all energy derived from the Gulf of Mexico,

POPSChina And Brazil Continue To Look For Oil While We Research . . . Switch Grass
This week, for example, the oil industry was heard complaining about Obama's proposed increases in their taxes by $70 billion over 5 years. For a president who constantly declares that the U.S. must reduce its dependence on foreign oil, this seems self-defeating: If Obama won't allow energy producers to get that oil and gas at home, they will have to get it from other countries more willing to derive revenues from their wealth of energy resources: "If you penalize oil and gas, and add taxes, it is going to make it much more difficult and more expensive. That means U.S. jobs are exported and we won't get the revenues from royalties," said Landry - a spokeswoman for the American Petroleum Institute. Indeed, the leaders of other nations seem to have a less myopic energy view than the the Obamunists Anticipating a robust future, other countries such as China and Brazil have continued to look for oil while we continue to research . . . switch grass.

POPSShocker: Obama-Run General Motors To Start Outsourcing Car Manufacturing What this illustrates is that the problem with the domestic auto industry all along has been exorbitant labor costs. Or, put more bluntly, the problem has been the UAW. In order to become solvent going forward General Motors most find a cheaper labor pool so that it can compete with its foreign counterparts. That means getting away from the UAW in Mexico, among other places. In summary, we could have saved ourselves billions in bailouts and kept GM’s jobs in America if the Obama administration hadn’t insisted in essentially taking the company over so that the UAW’s labor contracts wouldn’t be re-negotiated in bankruptcy. Now that the UAW has been so artfully protected by Obama, GM has to go overseas to remain profitable. And if Obama blocks this move toward outsourcing (and he can’t be that stupid as even he knows he’s now tied to GM’s future), the company will collapse.

POPSObama's Energy Policy Will Increase Dependence On Foreign Oil
Why isn’t there outrage, if not rioting in the street, over this oil and biofuel policy of the Obama administration? Is it because the domestic oil industry -- what little is left after Jimmy Carter -- is cowering in the corner in fear, waiting for the coup de grace? The American Petroleum Institute (API) is the only national organization representing the domestic oil industry. Jack Gerard, the President and CEO, has never worked in the oil industry. He came to the API from the American Chemistry Council last year. He has been in Washington since 1981. The API runs expensive television advertisements telling the public that everything will be fine in the future. Everything is not going to be fine in the future under President Obama’s biofuel and oil policy. President Obama’s biofuel and oil policy is on a collision course to a national catastrophe. Among a great many other critical problems, it will cause an increase in our dependence on foreign oil.

POPS How Far Left Is Left Enough For These People? Hamsher should stick to making crude photoshops of Joe Liberman in blackface. But instead, she is part of a team of radical left bloggers teaming with radical left union activists to move the already Marxist Democrat party even further to the left. Considering the Democrat Party is already out to nationalize health care, banking, and energy… is already trying to eliminate the secret ballot in union organizing … is already pursuing a radical environmental agenda aimed at shutting down domestic energy production and driving industry to foreign countries… how far left is left enough for these people?

POPSCanada is US Top Petroleum Supplier The US makes about 5 million barrels of petroleum per day. Then, we import twice as much: <10 million barrels per day. So how much petroleum product do we actually consume in a day? Over 20 million barrels of petroleum a day. That's staggering! Canada is the largest supplier of petroleum to the US, then Saudi Arabia, then...Mexico! I never knew that.

than most other sorts of development, whether they be new or expanding suburban communities, roads, farming or a green energy projects -- like wind farms, solar panel fields, and cellulosic ethanol plants. Consider, for example, how much “fragile” environment would be disturbed by T. Boone Pickens’ plan to build the largest wind farm in the world on 400,000 acres in the Texas panhandle. While the Greens say they support Pickens’ effort, in what way is the Texas panhandle less fragile than the Utah desert? Last spring, the BLM placed a moratorium on solar power projects to be built on public lands, pending environmental impact studies. The necessary transmission lines and water use might disturb the native vegetation and wildlife, says the BLM. But the solar power industry screamed bloody murder and the moratorium was soon rescinded. Given that the Greens oppose oil and gas drilling everywhere, the rest of us -- especially congressional Republicans --
