POPSObama Nobel Acceptance Shite
Paleontologists generally trace the arrival of modern man, homo sapiens, back 200,000 years, yet the first authenticated written histories are barely 2,400 years old. How Obama and his speechwriters filled in the 197,600-year gap to prove that the practice of war is as old as mankind and implicitly inseparable from the human condition is a question an enterprising reporter might venture to ask at the next presidential press conference. Perhaps delusions of omniscience is the answer. The Oslo speech is replete with references to and appropriations of the attributes of divinity. And to historical and anthropological fatalism; a deeply pessimistic concept of Providence. Obama affirmed that "no Holy War can ever be a just war. For if you truly believe that you are carrying out divine will, then there is no need for restraint." Then shortly afterward stated "Let us reach for the world that ought to be - that spark of the divine that still stirs within each of our souls." An adversary'

POPSAbortion is "sacred work"............... "They also suggest writing a letter to "the spirit of the child." Many women find they are talking to the spirit of the child inside of them. It may be useful and helpful to write your thoughts on paper. Some women write how they came to their decision, some ask for forgiveness. Some thank the spirit for the wisdom or thoughts they have had about life. Some write about the love they feel. Sometimes, having a way to say goodbye is an important part of healing. But the clinic warns women about where to go to find answers. "Remember: Go to factual and supportive sites. Use our Resources, or Choice Link Up. Avoid the negative traps of anti-choice sites." I'm sure they wouldn't want their patients reading sites that don't think their clinic is quite so sacred. Abortion is the result of the absence of love - love which is good, holy, sacred. "

POPSBegone Heathens!!! From the comments: "Quick question. Does "any form of mysticism are represented" mean Christianity too? Because one definition of mysticism, from wiki, is "(from the Greek μυστικός, mystikos, an initiate of a mystery religion) is the pursuit of communion with, identity with, or conscious awareness of an ultimate reality, divinity, spiritual truth, or God through direct experience, intuition, instinct or insight." If it doesn't include Christianity, does that mean that symbolically eating the flesh and drinking the blood of your God, lighting candles, praying to dead people, chanting, performing hour or two hour long ceremonies lead by a man or woman dressed in funny robes, forming small groups to discuss sacred texts, believing that the dead will rise, marking your forehead with ash and speaking in tongues is ok, else you are wiccan?"

POPSDurga Puja is coming up. Swami Sivananda says: do not sacrifice animals for Devi Commentary from Swami Sivananda, founder of the Divine Life society, on the observance of Durga Puja. Traditionally, animal sacrifice has often been a part of the ritual, but Sivananda declares this a violation of the principle of ahimsa, which is binding on all Hindus no matter what caste, jati, or situation they belong to. An interesting example of second-order discourse in contemporary non-Western religion.

POPSRobert Wright: God Robert Wright suggests our view of God shifts. Seems very Western, ignoring Hindu, Buddhist stasis

POPSNo Smiting But God still has some growing up to do. Wright argues that much of the problem isn’t with the religious texts or teachings themselves, but with the social conditions — the “facts on the ground” — that shape the sort of God we choose to create. Change the world, and you change the God. “If history naturally pushes people toward moral improvement, toward moral truth, and their God, as they conceive their God, grows accordingly, becoming morally richer, then maybe this growth is evidence of some higher purpose, and maybe — conceivably — the source of that purpose is worthy of the name divinity.”

POPSSearching for Afghanistan's Third Giant Buddha I love ancient history. No matter what our present relationship with Afghanistan, we should remember that it was considered the "cradle of civilization" and there is a wealth of history, culture, and societies.

POPSScience, theology: no competition for truth? Proper to their roles as researchers into the spiritual workings of creation and God's Self-revelation, Catholic theologians limit themselves to making claims that are consistent with God's Self-revelation as understood and developed by the living Body of Christ, the Church. When Catholic theologians overstep their proper roles and use their unique methods to make claims about the how the material universe works, they engage in pseudo-science.

POPSFrankfurt School Reigns Supreme at Notre Dame Hours of conversation, study, and prayer with my peers in ministry taught me that we want the Catholic community to lead the work of creating a just society," says Claire Noonan. The Program Organizer for Social Justice and Next Generation at Call to Action in Chicago, she creates educational programs and sustained action campaigns focusing on sweatshop labor. Oh, brother, there's that word "Chicago" again. Now, in my mind "social justice" has always been a codeword for Marxism, or in this case, the ecclesiastical equivalent, "Liberation Theology." Of course many Jesuits have been unfortunately drawn into that false ministry. But where is any reference to Catholic, or even biblical teachings? The Jesuit School at Berkeley is a member of the Graduate Theological Union, which has many ties to the Frankfurt School. Jenkins also attended Oxford University, and Oxford has also been penetrated by the Frankfurt philosophy.

POPSHitchens Distorts Franklin's Religion Why do scientists always see belief in the Most High as a weakness? What has science really done for us, anyway? Take a look at the world...science has made it a much more efficient hell, and that is about all. I guess we've spent millions of years evolving into a species determined to extinguish itself. The theory kinda debunks itself.

POPSGod is Bipolar? Wow, that explains a lot... Funny as hell but apparently Rev. Jurgens who has a Psychology degree as well as a Doctorate of Divinity has found abundant proof. Make me happy to know God and I have something in common but it is more a scary thing to think one day he may just get upset enough to sweep the Universe away from a temper tantrum... We will follow this story and update as regularly as news becomes available. So far God has not commented and no one seems to be answering the Dial-A-Prayer number...

POPSgo and sin no more: many have given up Facebook for lent wow- this goes on to state how facebook is taking over people's lives in a huge way- and a professor of Catholic Theology at Duke Divinity School said the church doesn't have a problem with technology as such- just it's overuse---and that the main concern is that the internet can substitute for genuine human relationships

POPSThou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Him The bill includes $20 billion for school “modernization, renovation or repair of facilities” – with $14 billion for elementary and secondary schools and $6 billion for higher education, which includes the secular string attached. What exactly is “a substantial portion”? If an organization lets the scouts meet in their facility, will they no longer be able to use government money to fix their building? It’s simple, really. You grow the public sector, shrink the private sector, and fund only what you deem ideologically sanitary.
