POPSCarbon Tax- UNCONSTITUTIONAL This new French carbon tax was scheduled to go into law on Jan1, 2010. The tax was steep: 17 euros per ton of carbon dioxide (USD $24.40). In a stunning move, and surely a blow to warmists everywhere, the tax has been found unconstitutional and thrown out. Originally found here (Google Translation).

POPS ChotuKool: the $69 fridge for rural India To achieve its efficiency the ChotuKool doesn't use a compressor, instead running on a cooling chip and a fan similar to those used in computers, so like computers it can run on batteries. It's engineering credentials are further boosted by the fact that it has only 20 parts, as opposed to more than 200 parts in a normal refrigerator. The ChotuKool was co-designed with village women to assure its acceptability, and is distributed by members of a micro-finance group.

POPSThe "patron saint of Troublemakers" :) " Blessed Mary MacKillop, the Australian nun once excommunicated and now beatified, is on her way to canonization. Is she the patron saint of troublemakers? Excommunicated today, canonized tomorrow, says John Allen, puckishly. For me, the best part of her story is how the church itself understands that sometimes even the holiest among us are occasionally at loggerheads with church leadership. (Cf. St. Mother Theodore Guerin)".

POPSIt’s Official! Media Matters Morphs Into One-Stop Fisting Information Clearinghouse
According to Lott, “The kit was actually for making a “dental dam” " designed to prevent STD transmission during oral sex.” Which, of course, was pretty obvious, given that the kit reportedly consisted of “a single plastic glove, a package of K-Y lubricant,” and instructions titled “How to Make a Dental Dam From a Latex Glove.” Did you get that? GLSEN’s porn pushing on 14 year-olds was OK because they were instructing the young teens on how to build dental dams and not on how to fist. Oh, that’s a relief. After all, shouldn’t every child know how to build a dental dam? It’s now clear that Media Matters will go to any length to defend any perverted act by any Obama Administration official. Even if they have to defend child porn books and dental dam techniques to do it. How sad. UPDATE: Media Matters just can’t help themselves. Here’s their latest rant defending child porn promoter Kevin Jennings: Read full post http://bit.ly/6Sr3AC

POPS"Social Media? No Way. Social Middleware? Oh, Yes" by Alex Williams for @rww
"Middleware is computer software that connects software components or applications. The software consists of a set of services that allows multiple processes running on one or more machines to interact. This technology evolved to provide for interoperability in support of the move to coherent distributed architectures, which are used most often to support and simplify complex, distributed applications. It includes web servers, application servers, and similar tools that support application development and delivery. Middleware is especially integral to modern information technology based on XML, SOAP, Web services, and service-oriented architecture. Middleware sits "in the middle" between application software that may be working on different operating systems. It is similar to the middle layer of a three-tier single system architecture, except that it is stretched across multiple systems or applications. Examples include EAI software, telecommunications software, transaction monitor

POPSbook review: "Jam It, Pickle It, Cure It" by Karen Solomon
More: The recipes range from simple to complicated. I made rosemary-olive oil crackers and a delicious, garlicky white-bean dip quickly and effortlessly, and served them to rave reviews. But my plans for making bacon were abandoned after reading the first few lines of the recipe. Not only did I need three pounds of pork belly, I also needed liquid smoke or hickory sawdust, and seven to 10 days to get it good and bacon-like. A family brunch in a few days was not going to include bacon made by me. And then there was the s’mores debacle.… the resulting marshmallows were flat and lumpy. I apologized as I distributed them to my family and proclaimed that I would never, ever make marshmallows again. But the marshmallows melted perfectly. They browned on top, crackled as you bit into them, and oozed sticky, slinky strings of marshmallow over graham crackers, chocolate, and fingers. Everyone loved them. By the end of the weekend, I was actually thinking I might do it again.

POPS‘Black Book’ For Kids With Tips on Fisting and Pi$$ing on Your Partner And in case any of the teens got bored, GLSEN was also kind enough to include a list of the local gay bars in the booklet distributed to high school students. Because of his excellent work with children Kevin Jennings was promoted by Barack Obama to be his Safe Schools Czar. Today he’s running the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools in the US Department of Education. Do you feel safe now? There’s more to come. POPSSex Workers Offer Freebies for Climate Change Delegates in Copenhagen This is a bit odd considering that sex work in Denmark is legal. And surely, if you're involved in the difficult work of trying to save the planet from doom, you may want to engage in adult activities to relieve some stress, right? Apparently, sex workers there agree and are fighting back against this discrimination. Here's more about their plan: "All delegates who come to Copenhagen for the world climate summit will be able to use the postcards for payment after making a request on our website," Moeller, of the Danish association for the defense of sex workers, said.

POPSBrainwashing 101 mmm mmm mmm! Jones, who delivers supplies to about 800 schools, said he remembers seeing the design but didn't think anything about it. He said the supplies were designed by a different company and that "the art department was trying to be cutesy." "I wish I could do it over. But, for now, I can just make it right," Jones said. It's his job to go to schools that might have received supplies with the controversial design and remove them. Finding what schools the supplies went to has been difficult. From a case of 72 notebooks, three have been found that have a design similar to the Obama logo.
