POPSManaging Distraction more: "Surfing or multitasking may have even more of a place in 21st-century society as strategies of learning," says Jackson. "But going forward, we need to do much more than hopscotch across the web, split-focused and pulled this way and that by choice distractions. We cannot mistake fragmented, diffused attention as avenues of higher thought-or deeper relationships." "Instead, we need to do better at cultivating deep focus, keen awareness and meta-cognitive "executive" attention-the package of skills that is crucial to moving forward in a complex, high-tech age," says Jackson. "If we can 'green' the earth, we can clean up our noisy, interrupt-driven environment, and set the stage for a renaissance of attention for all."

POPSdistraction as an energy-saver wonder how many faces it can recognise (say in a household of a family of 5)..... also, what if someone fell asleep facing the tv? would that face still be recognised?

POPSIsrael Says UN War Crimes Investigation a Distraction Hunting down the Nazis, though, wasn't a "distraction." The holocaust in Gaza deserves equal attention. Over one and a half million people are being starved to death in front of the eyes of the world in the Gaza strip, by the total and ruthless Israeli blockade, destruction of infrastructure, restrictions on employment, farming, fishing and repair of homes. The U.N. report says this blockade must be ended. It is not a "distraction." It would be stopping a crime against humanity.

POPS"Chrysler is Going Out of Business. The Company Just Hasn’t Made It Official."
Taxpayers are likely to lose most of the $81 billion that Congress and the administration sunk into the two companies, according to the Congressional Oversight Panel. Chrysler is expected to lose all $14.3 billion of the taxpayers' money. The daily management of Chrysler is controlled by Fiat which owns 20% of the U.S. company with options which could take that amount to 35%. Fiat has not put any money into Chrysler, so if the American firm becomes a significant operational or management burden there are very few reason for the Italian company, which has sales troubles of its own in Europe, to stay long term. Fiat lost $254 million in the second quarter, so its board may eventually believe that Chrysler is a distraction and one without a future. What Chrysler needs most from Fiat is money. If Fiat's own bleed continues, there will remain only one choice for management. In the mean time, the traditional competitors like Toyota, Honda and Nissan aren't Chrysler's . . .

POPSThe Two Faces of Granny Rictus Botox "And remember her promise of the most transparent, ethical Congress in history. Try not to laugh so hard, Mr. Rangel and Mr. Murtha. You might drop your bags of money. Another lying, hypocritical progressive Obamacrat. I know it's "dog bites man," but there you are"

POPSHow I Got Rid of 10 Years of Sciatic Nerve Pain in Only 11 Days - You Can Too! Sciatica can be a major distraction in the lives of those who suffer from it. I should know - I suffered from it for 10 years. Those who suffer from sciatic nerve pain know what I am talking about, because they know how excruciating the pain can be. When we feel that little tingling feeling in our foot or lower leg, we know its only a matter of time before we experience the shooting pain sensation up to our hips - it can make you want to scream

POPSTime to get real The Right wing has always hated ACORN. Partially that's because the organization has been effective - especially when it comes to its battles for better housing and its campaigns to empower the poor the way we should do it in a democracy - registering people to vote. The Right wing hates it when poor people vote. Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-creamer/time-to-get-real-about-th_b_292923.html

POPSSteele denounces 'race card' Glad that he is stepping forward...as are several black bloggers. But no matter what the GOP or conservatives do many will continue to believe the Liberal dogma because it keeps them in victim-mode and provides the division that the Dems need to retain their influence.

POPSTweeting our brain cells away Though i'm no scientist - and i'd certainly word it a bit differently - i share these sentiments about twitter. To be clear, I think there are many positive aspects of twitter too, but this is certainly one of my criticisms/concerns. I recommend reading the rest of this article...it's thought provoking and insightful about how different sources of entertainment and communication affect us (Twitter, Facebook, video games, etc.)

POPSMilitary Ends Contract With Rendon Group, Firm That Profiled Reporters Media accounts were very different, however. The latest installment of the contract was awarded to Rendon in January, but the company has done work in Afghanistan before. Stars and Stripes, a newspaper funded partly by the Defense Department, said the profiles had been used as recently as last year to keep reporters whose prior coverage had been negative from traveling with U.S. troops in Afghanistan. With public doubts about the war in Afghanistan growing, the implication was that the military was trying to reverse the trend by giving plum embed spots to reporters who have written favorably about the war.

POPSSC GOP reps to discuss impeaching philandering governor He needs to be impeached since he has refused to resign. It's sad that his fellow Party members have to do this. Now if only those in Washington would impeach those of more serious *crimes* such as fraud, tax evasion, conspiring with our enemies, unlawful use of taxpayers money, etc....

POPSThe Good War....well I didn't really vote for it. The war in Afghanistan was originally conceived as a necessary war after nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives in an attack planned there, so rooting out the Taliban supporters of al-Qaida was viewed as justified. Now, however, some Americans have changed their minds. Any wonder? The liberals have never had the stomach for war. No, they do not believe in fighting for a cause unless it only involves a local protest with chants and signs against the evil capitalistic pigs that reside right here at home. So why should Afghanistan be any different? It is not so expect the expected, total surrender and withdrawal soon.

POPSDetection dogs help save endangered species More: seven of the nine dogs currently classed as WDC Detection Dogs are, in fact, shelter animals. Dogs surrendered because they were "out of control" or "just plain crazy", it is that intense, obsessive drive to "do something" that makes them both an annoying pet and a successful working dog. To find a new detection dog, Megan or a colleague will walk up and down the rows of the shelter bouncing a tennis ball. The dogs that are more interested in the ball than anything else make the first cut. Then one by one, the dogs are tested using toys and food, with additional distractions added over time. The dog that is completely obsessed with the toy over food or any other distraction is a strong candidate.… Meet the real-life dog hero, Pepin, and his handler, Dr. Megan Parker, at the 2009 Wildlife Conservation Expo on October 3 in San Francisco.
