POPSundignified tone “I hope the President will learn that true bipartisanship begins with mutual respect,” Graham said in response to Obama’s fervent criticism of those who oppose him. “Not all criticism is demagoguery,” he added. Graham said when it comes to the public option, “the President is either being disingenuous or misinformed. The public option, contrary to the president’s claims, will eventually lead to a government takeover of our health care system.” Graham believes Obama’s address to Congress is the beginning of a “go it alone” strategy in the push for the government takeover of the health care system. “If the Obama Administration and congressional Democrats go down this path and push a bill on the American people they do not want, it could be the beginning of the end of the Obama presidency.” © 2009 Newsmax. POPSUnremarkable - Rep. Boustany and the GOP Response Frankly, Rep. Boustany had no business being in the health care spotlight, despite his status as a heart surgeon. The Louisiana Republican mimicked the same tired & misleading arguments the GOP has made in the past related to the costs of the anticipated legislation. Most misleading, though, was Boustany's assertion that the proposals supported by Democrats amounts to, "Replacing your family’s current health care with government-run health care..." But, nobody's talking about doing that. His general message was that we can't afford reform and that we should approach it from another angle, but this is disingenuous. It was a passive-aggressive and cynical message, suggesting an awareness of the need for reform, but in a different way and at a different time. As Boustany put it, "we need to start over." Don't believe it.

POPS40 million? 15 million? Which is it? Smith concludes: The number of Americans who are poor, sick, and uninsured for a lengthy period of time is a relatively small number, about 4 million individuals, adding that the 46 million figure also includes about 12 million illegal aliens. Now this leads me to another question. If 4 million is the more accurate number, then the cost of $1.2 TRILLION seems even more exorbitant! We can’t find a way to help 4 million Americans so they can get health care without spending $1.2 TRILLION! There is absolutely no way to justify this kind of spending for just 4 million people, especially in light of the many alternative plans out there like the Republican plan and the plan by Whole Foods CEO, John Mackey.

POPSBill O'Rielly and Fox (News?) Screwing You? You Bet!
This dialog came from this site: http://letters.mobile.salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/06/29/family_values/view/index.html It says it all concerning conservative wingnuts such as Fox (You Call That News?)! Q: How many conservative wingnuts does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A: There will be no screwing ...unless their name is Craig, Vitter, Sanford, Foley or Ensign:eek: ...Perhaps (right) wingnuts should try being human... That's the core issue here, conservative policies are INHUMANE, war, plundered economy and constitutional rights, laws that let corp. scam artists run amok... (pro-choice hate mongering) If the question was asked ... what kind of policy do Americans support without context to politics, the majority of people's answers would be "liberal" and "moderate" on issues such as job security, regulations of financial institutions, universal health coverage, education and social security. F**k (Right) wingnuts...and I don't mean screw or sex.

POPSLyndon LaRouche has NEVER been recognized by the Democratic Party It's time to drop this idea that LaRouche and his followers are Democrats. Remember, anyone can claim anything about themselves, but that doesn't make it the case. I could claim to be Catholic, but since the Catholic Church would disagree (based on minor, trivial issues like I've never been baptized nor confirmed), I would be making a false statement. Just like the people claiming that LaRouche is a Democrat.

POPS AARP’s Tacit Support of Universal Healthcare Driving Seniors Away
They are not on board with rationing, whether de facto or intentional. They’re frightened of the prospect of a proposed “Quality-Adjusted Remaining Years” (QARY) formula, where a panel of decision-makers will amortize the cost of treatment, and decide their fate based upon the panel’s perception of what the senior’s remaining quality of life will be for them . They’re frightened of surgeries being denied them because they’re too old and the procedure is too costly. Most importantly, they expect that an organization they pay dues to belong to actually represent them and their interests. Seniors also know that the AARP is being disingenuous with its members in that it has taken its considerable weight and placed it firmly behind Obama’s socialist healthcare model, while not having the decency to do so publicly. Many of those seniors who have left AARP have found another voice. A new organization has sprung up which aims to pick up the ball that AARP has dropped . . .

POPSWhy I Turned Down O’Reilly
Another person finally understands how truly dangerous Bill O’Reilly has become. From the clip: “O'Reilly had the opportunity to apologize for his words, and he didn't. He had the opportunity to say that this tragic outcome was something about which he felt sorry. He didn't. When restraint and perspective were called for, he fanned the flames higher.” Before everyone jumps on me as someone who would suppress O’Reilly’s right to say what he wants, please note that I did not say he should not be allowed to exercise his right to free speech. However, I find it very disturbing that advertisers feel a perverse connection to this thug, this hate monger. Sure, I know they advertise on his program because he has such a large audience and money means more to them than their conscience. And how can this pig have such a large audience? Statistically, no matter where I go in public there will be at least a few of these like-minded people around me. Now that is what I call terrorism.

POPSObama opposes release of torture photos I agree with Obama that the release of these photos would not add any additional benefit to the ublic’s understanding of the story. However, this is as far as I go in agreeing with him. It is not up to him or any other politician to decide what is newsworthy. The purpose of a free press is to allow the citizenry to see for themselves what our government, and its agents, i.e. military personnel, is involved in. We decide what is newsworthy and any attempt to withhold information not only gives the impression of a cover up but constitutes an attack on ‘freedom of press’. It is disingenuous of Obama to claim transparency and then attempt to keep information away from us.

POPSYou Be The Judge "Similarly, it is acceptable to argue that Israel's offensive in Gaza was wrong -- but it would be anti-Semitic to criticize Israel on the grounds that Jews are dirty, greedy or sinister. The Foxmans and Dershowitzes say that comparing Israelis to Nazis is, in the final analysis, anti-Semitic because it is so demonstrably untrue and so patently disingenuous. Even Israel's fiercest critics, they argue, ought to concede that the country's actions have been taken in its own defense -- even if one believes that defense was misguided or disproportionately violent or even criminal. Further, they say that the number of Palestinian deaths during the 60-year conflict can't begin to compare to the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust. To suggest a moral equivalency is anti-Semitic because it's so absurd."

POPSStates relent, take stimulus money Dangle that carrot long enough and it will be taken. I think it was disingenuous for states to refuse financial assistance citing good reason not to take it and then take it anyway. It undermines any remaining principles state leadership was trying to exhibit against federal influence over state matters. I also think it is wrong for the federal government to force state policy changes as a condition for receiving so called assistance. But such is the state of politics in America. The federal government exerts more and more control over states rights and money talks louder than principle.

POPSDisingenuous statistics on support for overhauling health systems Look at the original Health Affairs article. Percentage of USA adults who say that their health system needs either "fundamental change" or "complete rebuilding": 48+34 = 82%. Comparable percentages for Canada: 60 + 12 = 72% For UK: 57 + 15 = 72% For Germany: 51 + 27 = 78% For Australia: 55 + 18 = 73% For New Zealand: 56 + 17 = 73%

POPSThe Plan to Use Tribunals on McVeigh and the Militias: How That Doctrine is Now in Place
They asserted that “citizenship of the accused poses no obstacle” to the application of the laws of war to such Americans, with the Bill of Rights providing no protection: It is legally and intellectually disingenuous to provide terrorists the same rights as persons accused of ordinary crimes against society. Our Bill of Rights was designed to protect individuals in society against the arbitrary exercise of government power. It is not meant to protect commando groups warring on society through arbitrary acts of mass violence. We recognize that our proposal may have an adverse impact on the Bill of Rights. Regrettable as this may be, the demonstrable risk of harm to innocent persons posed by terrorism ... comparatively outweighs the speculative risk of such an adverse impact. The “commando groups” Crona and Richardson had most in mind were the domestic militias formed throughout the United States in the 1990s in response to Ruby Ridge and the Waco Siege

POPSToledo Blade Resorts To Cry Baby Censorship As It Ignores Its Own Bias
The Toledo Bladeless Blunder shows us how the moronically biased mainstream media can be by providing us with an inexplicably self-contradictory editorial. The scatterbrained thought processes that led to this embarrassing abomination are illuminating because they provide proof to the assertion, which I have made myself, that there will be attacks against conservative talk radio, despite President Obama's statement that he does not support a return to the so-called Fairness Doctrine. (Remember his promise, err, lie, about campaign funding?) Actually, the president is disingenuous because he knows the attack will be subtle, and my point is proven by the dim-witted Toledo Bladeless Blunder editorial board brain trust that has been sipping the liberal mainstream tonic a bit too much. The editorial's first three graphs prove my point. What star-crossed geniuses they have at The Toledo Bladeless Blunder, which lacks intellectual honesty and clarity concerning talk-radio's his

POPSJoy of Cooking or joy of increased calories? I think the editor's response is disingenuous. "It's such a tiny number of recipes." Uh, no — they analyzed 18 recipes, and found that in 14 of them the calories had gone up. That's 78% of the recipes analyzed, which is not by any means a "tiny number". (If she'd argued that they used a non-representative sample of recipes, that would be different, but that's not what she said.)

POPS The Promise of Gas it transects the Caucus but bypasses Russia itself, piping gas from the Caspian Sea. Lest we forget, Russia target-bombing just missed the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan pipeline in Georgia last August, sending a decisive message. Indeed scaring Europe off using Georgia as a pipeline route became a key Russian objective in the Georgian conflict. Bullying works, and as Russia grapples with plummeting oil and gas prices that threaten its economic viability, it's their cheapest foreign policy tool. Russia may see this as their last hope for ensuring German dependence (and much of Europe's) on Russian gas. Threats to energy supply are Russia's greatest source of leverage over European (and NATO, EU) policy decisions, even if the price for gas drops further. Ironically, lower gas prices also help Russia maintain its energy monopoly over Germany as cheap gas makes other, domestic and alternative energy sources too expensive to be attractive.

POPSFox Passed Off GOP Talking Points As Their Own Reporting So, in short, Fox News received a press release from a GOP outpost, and rather than reporting it out or applying even the teeniest bit of critical scrutiny, they cut-and-pasted the whole kit and kaboodle into a slideshow just as quickly as their tiny mouse-clicky hands could go, the end.
