Mark Morford: The gang rape and 30 Republican senators who don't give a damn about battered women
Lexica
by Lexica  10-16-2009    3
More: Turns out, when faced with such vileness, all filters fail. All balance is thrown off. You thought you had some sort of way to process and attain perspective? You are proven wrong. So perhaps all we can do is ponder how pathetic and sad these various senator's lives must be, how these bitter old men will now go home at night and announce around the dinner table that, yes, today they worked very hard to help improve the welfare of the nation by essentially enabling rape and sexual abuse, tried their darndest to prevent women who've been viciously attacked from having much legal recourse. And lo, Satan will chuckle happily. Then maybe these senators will try and hug their wives, or their daughters. And maybe, if there's any justice in the universe, their wives and daughters will slap them as hard as humanly possible, lock them in a shipping container, and never let them touch them again.

Afghan outlook bleak as Taliban grabs territory
jatfla
by jatfla  10-11-2009
While Obama plans his Peace Prize speech, our declared enemy is defeating our military for lack of commitment by their Commander-in-Chief. This is a travesty. The Taliban will, again, make Afghanistan it's launching site for terror attacks against the West, enslave it's population, and the soldiers who gave their lives there will have done it for nothing. All because of a lack of will. Well Ms Michelle says that she is now proud of America....I couldn't be more ashamed of her husband's treachery and abandonment. This is aiding our enemies and undermining the American soldier. Shame! This is Vietnam times TEN.

Republican Support Hits New Lows.
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-8-2009    3
A rash of polls came out this weekend. Support for the Republican party is at an all-time low. Support for the President is on the rise, back to 56%. Despite the impression we may get from our corrosive and toxic media -- which manufactures conflict and sensationalism -- these polls show a growing disgust at the Republican Party. The Democrats, btw, other than the President, also are losing support. The often unspoken public opinion we never hear about it the majority of Americans don't like Congress at all. Yet, it's the system we were born into and we're stuck with it till we work out ways to improve it (which Congress will strongly resist). Hopefully we'll remain on track to drive the Republican Party into extinction. Voting against bad Democrats in their primary also would be a good idea, imo. Lots of folks have come to focus on this lately...defeat the so-called "Blue Dog Democrats," in their primaries. Just keep working to electing better leaders, one step at a

The CIA interrogation investigation: I am ashamed of my country
Lexica
by Lexica  8-25-2009    5
More: I guess what especially turns my stomach here is that the idea wasn’t just to inflict mental anguish on a presumably odious man in order to extract information. It was to inflict that pain by exploiting, as a weakness, whatever flicker of nobility or love remained in an otherwise wretched soul. It was a method of torture that would have been effective only because and to the extent there was something human left in him. Maybe I’m being overly sentimental, but every cell in my body is telling me this is sick and wrong.

Dog who was set alight & left for dead to face his torturers in court
JackieDel
by JackieDel  8-22-2009    5
"Their attack was so vicious that the Perpignan court authorities have already ruled that they should remain anonymous for fear of reprisals. 'They have cause widespread disgust, and there have already been threats of violence made against them' said a local police spokesman. 'Mambo was clearly looking for help when he went missing. He approached the pair because he is extremely friendly, but they showed him nothing but cruelty. 'He was held down by the woman, and then the man poured petrol over him, and set him alight. 'He was left for dead, but animal aid workers were alerted and managed to save him. He has made an amazing recovery. People are so distressed by what happened that 200 marched through the streets of Espira-de-l'Agly village in protest last week." This despicable pair face up to of 6 months in jail! That's not nearly enough. The laws need changing.

Let’s Go To Prison
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  8-20-2009
The author says “Generations from now, our treatment of criminals will be looked at with the same disgust and horror that slavery is viewed with today, and our society will rightly be condemned as cruel and barbaric for it.” I don’t fully agree with this statement, because there can be no comparison between prison and slavery. I do however, believe that rape is cruel and barbaric and we take on some of the responsibility for allowing it to continue. What ever happened to the idea of no “Cruel or Unusual Punishment”? You might be inclined to be unsympathetic of prisoners plight because after all they broke the law and deserve to be where they are, but do they really deserve to have this form of torture brought down on them?

One Little Star Fish For Health Care Reform
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  8-19-2009
I just wrote to President Obama concerning the public option or lack thereof. I am so disappointed that this might be a possibility, especially after I have been breaking my neck trying to support the Health Care Reform Bill with a Public Option inclusion. I went for the Dem's bait of giving a dollar a day contribution to show the naysayers that we are united in this cause. It appears nothing is working for us pro-health care reformers and the teabagger/townhallers and the insurance lobbies are winning. Even Pres. Obama is caving on his promise to get it passed during his day in the sun. Did I say I was disappointed? That's an understatement. What I am feeling right now is total DISGUST. Below my letter to the Pres. (that and a $1. will get me a cup of coffee - only with a senior discount.) if you care to read my (one little star fish self) clamoring to no avail on this health care reform issue.  What they are attributing to you, is exactly what THEY are doing. It's a devious and intensely irksome tactic and they are very good at it. You see it on MessNBC, from our top Democrats in Congress and from the President. They do it with hubristic, arrogant cock-sureness and they brazenly lie with a sense of intellectual security because they think nobody is as smart as they are. They've stolen the language by getting to it first, describing every element of their own actions, and blaming YOU for them. They don't have to go far to access the information. It is within their own hearts and minds. It is there to be witnessed in their behavior. It is denied and attributed to you. This way you are left to find an intelligent way of saying, "No I didn't. But you just did that", so they can repulsively scoff at you in their disgust. Be quick in calling them out. The latest studies on brain activity relating to political leanings is the kind of weaponry they are using. Study it. Search for the

Young Brits killing young English

Whatever happened to Labours pledge that immigrants guilty of serious offences would be repatriated to their own countries? Just hot air???? I have close relatives, young, decent people, living amongst these hooligans from elsewhere. I want them to be safe, yet I fear for them. Call me racist, I call it realism.

Do they mean Code Pink which never missed an opportunity to bash the military and our “terrorist” former president? How about ACORN whose tactics have earned that organization indictments–and convictions? How about the New Black Panther Party whose attempt to intimidate voters in Philadelphia was referred to the Justice Dept.–which inexplicably dropped the case? How about MoveOn.org which called General Petraeus General “Betrayus” for “crime” of dedicating his life to protecting America? And who can possibly forget the countless number of left-wing college students on campuses across the country who have intimidated, harassed–and attacked–conservative speakers daring to exercise their First Amendment rights? Hypocrites one and all, but they pale in comparison to an administration headed by a former community organizer not only denigrating community organizing, but creating a website, flag@whitehouse.gov for Americans who wish to rat out their fellow Americans f

Rules for Tea Partiers (with thanks to Mr. Saul Alinsky)
merrie
by merrie  7-27-2009    2
RULE 3: Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy. Since the enemy lacks expertise in almost everything that does not have to do with enriching Government Sachs and JP Morgan Chase, we’re doing well here too. Let me see, they lack expertise in, inter alia, honesty, integrity, patriotism, courage, and the democratic process. They also have no expertise in reading their own legislation, although they have mucho expertise at reading a teleprompter (Maybe if they put the healthcare bill up on TOTUS it would get read…?) RULE 4: Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules. Where’s the hope, dude? Where’s the transparency? Where’s the the end to lobbyist connections? Where’s the post-racial? Where’s the bipartisanship? Where’s the “unity”? Where’s the “making everything great for ‘working class’ families”? RULE 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. Those “mom jeans” comments hurt.
