Bush Denounces 'Dungeon' of Cuba
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  10-11-2008    3
You'd think Bush was speaking of his own dictatorial reign, eh? "Our great nation that believes in human rights and human dignity, blah, blah, blah..." Hahahaha! What a joke! Tell that to the people of Iraq or Afghanistan or the people wasting away in Gitmo! I'd bet Castro's popularity ratings are higher than yours! Bush, why don't you just STFU? Fix your own country, who is "being repressed by a handful of elites" first, before trying to impose your twisted version of "freedom", on everyone else! Lift the embargo. The age of the red scare is dead and gone. It's the red, white and blue scare, most of the world is concerned about these days...SIR!

If you suddenly fall ill, do your loved ones know your wishes?
Lexica
by Lexica  10-8-2008
The Five Wishes document helps you express how you want to be treated if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for yourself. It is unique among all other living will and health agent forms because it looks to all of a person's needs: medical, personal, emotional and spiritual. Five Wishes also encourages discussing your wishes with your family and physician. Five Wishes lets your family and doctors know: 1. Which person you want to make health care decisions for you when you can't make them. 2. The kind of medical treatment you want or don't want. 3. How comfortable you want to be. 4. How you want people to treat you. 5. What you want your loved ones to know. … The document speaks to people in their own language, not in "doctor speak" or "lawyer talk." It can be used in the living room instead of the emergency room. And it helps families talk with their physician about a difficult subject.

Religious Hate Speech
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  10-7-2008
The view from one of the believers. If you care to wade through this drivel you will be entertained by a multitude of false assertions, straw men, and arguments from ignorance. The depth of illogic is stunning. It's sad that many people who read this sort of crap swallow it as readily as they do the dogma behind it.

In Search of Wisdom: What is the Root Cause of Inequality?
wildcat
by wildcat  10-4-2008    3
When there is nothing quantifiable to possess, we would neither know what the share of each individual is nor think of equality; if there was no notion of equality, we would not care that some have more than the others. Fortunately or unfortunately, there is always something to be possessed and our mind is naturally keen on the subject of equality

Roger Ebert's Analysis of McCain
rmowery
by rmowery  9-29-2008    2
McCain either thinks he is too good to speak to Obama or has something to hide. I think both are the case. McCain married into money and is simply an Ultra Rich Bitch and now considers himself above the average American. So if in office he will not work for the American people, but for big corporations and the ultra rich. He really should take a lesson from some of the very wealthy in Silicon Valley who do good with their money and treat people of all levels with dignity and respect.

Compassion from our leaders? Is it too much to ask for?
spirithiker
by spirithiker  9-22-2008
Money diverted from education and healthcare to secure access to energy resources in foreign countries, rising unemployment while corporate executives get richer, a faltering economy turning hard working Americans into homeless (and having their voting tights taken away from them), McCain talks of war with nostalgia while disenfranchising veterans, Palin talks of forcing the young to have offspring they neither want nor can sustain, they both flip flop on important issues and boldly lie in face of the truth that is clearly known by millions. All of these things and more have shown how this administration and the republican party in general place human dignity and suffering a distant second to their pursuit of profit and political power. We deserve someone with the capacity to care for us, someone we can connect with, someone who understands us and puts our basic needs ahead of the ‘party’. Compassion is not too much to ask for in a leader. McCain/Palin and Bush/Cheney clearl

Todd and Sarah Palin unchallenged in Fox interviews
Kelika
by Kelika  9-20-2008    1
more: "Van Susteren made that strategy even more apparent during her embarrassing interview with Palin's husband, in which she seemed to morph into a cheerleader. Go Wasilla High Warriors! Go Todd!" "Todd, don't you know, helped build his own home! Flies his own float plane! Fishes for sockeye! Drives his snow machine 112 miles an hour! Palin somehow maintained his composure and dignity in the face of this frenetic new fan. At one point, perhaps trying to gently guide his interviewer toward a substantive question, he noted that he had worked to improve Alaska's vocational training programs. But Van Susteren, determined to treat her subject as Klondike Jack, ignored that segue into actual public policy. She sighed about the spectacular view from Todd's doorstep lake. "They love you here! They love you here!" Van Susteren fairly squealed, as the First Dude smiled sheepishly. "So that must be fun for you!""

The same old lame, but effective, propaganda repeated by people who just seem "so nice and affable" like Palin makes the fascist Propaganda more effective today. Plus, look at the history books in your schools-empty propaganda for empty minds in desperate lives. It will work this time better then under Hitler

Inventor Greg Zanis of Sugar Grove, Illinois, has recently patented an electric car, he calls Dream Car 123. This futuristic, one-person, safety vehicle uses today's technology, but eliminates many of the traditional car systems, producing a car that is more efficient, faster and safer to drive than today's mechanical car on the street.

Truth About The Media, Simply Stated
Jorjor
by Jorjor  9-14-2008    1
It does no good to argue whether "the media" (as if there is such a monolithic beast) is liberal, conservative, both or neither. What is certain is that they are, indeed, a hungry pack but not as co-operative one, yapping after every scrap lest another member of the swarm get a little extra and tearing at each other's throats rather than consider the public interest. Wolves have more dignity - they hunt co-operatively.

United Nations Reform: Fact or Fiction?
merrie
by merrie  9-11-2008    2
The United Nations promised international cooperation on eliminating the major threats to peace and security and the most serious impediments to the protection of human rights and human dignity. Sixty years after the UN officially came into existence, 24 October 1945, the trail is one of broken promises. While important successes have marked some of its paths, the international machine has been hijacked and manipulated to subvert the very causes it was intended to promote. A number of factors have forced UN reform to move much higher up on the global agenda than ever before: the exposure of the billion-dollar UN-run Oil-for-food scam, peacekeeper-rapists, and paralysis in the face of genocide in Sudan. However, in an environment where there is little, if any, consensus on the most critical issues of our time, the real game is one of finger-pointing. Undoubtedly, the "blame America first" will continue. http://www.eyeontheun.org/un-reform.asp
