Bring Peace into the World Today and Everyday
zalisan
by zalisan  9-27-2009
To get you started, here are some ideas from the “Peace One Day” website:- • Make peace with someone you have fallen out with. • Swim or cycle for your own peace of mind. • Bring your family and friends together for a meal. • Send peace cards and emails. • Organise some lunch boxes for homeless people. • Make peace with yourself. • Create or visit a peace garden. • Light a candle for peace. • Hold a few minutes of silence. • Write a prayer for world peace.

Stunted outlook on neglect of kids
pennyserenade
by pennyserenade  9-1-2009
" What can the United States do? The State Department each year publishes heavily researched reports on human rights, drug trafficking, religious freedom and human trafficking. All of these are important topics. But is any of them as critical as saving a billion children from life as a mental cripple? Why not a new report, on human nutrition, with appropriate penalties for the nations that neglect their children?"

A DRIVE TO SAVE LIFTA
brightlight4
by brightlight4  8-30-2009
Main Issues: • The original Palestinian inhabitants of Lifta, their memories of the village, their exile and longing to return to Lifta are not mentioned, or even consideredby the Municipality Master Plan. • Lifta captures the moment of destruction of Palestinian life in 1948. Its 3,000 original inhabitants fled – mostly to East Jerusalem and to the Ramallah area. However, unlike many of the 530 Palestinian villages and towns conquered and bulldozed during the war of 1947/48, a few of Lifta’s houses remain almost intact, yet deserted and declared ‘officially’ resettled. • These set of circumstances have placed Lifta in a unique position: its original inhabitants are still around, living in the OPT and the Chicago area with a desire that the injustices done in 1948 be acknowledged and repaired. • In Israel, renovation projects are frequently used to build a national narrative, ignoring the deep contradictions between planning and human rights that inevitably arise out of suc

Burmese villagers 'forced to work on Total pipeline'
cakebelly
by cakebelly  8-14-2009
more (at source): The soldiers ordered villagers to build a new camp in late March. The land where they set up the new camp belongs to local villagers ... the soldiers ordered villagers to help build it. Villagers had to cut bamboo, wood, and leaves for the building and at the same time they had to build it." Burma's junta, the State Peace and Development Council, officially outlawed the use of forced labour in 1999. However, campaigners say troops routinely force civilians to work for them and those who refuse are often beaten, tortured or sometimes killed. Total insists that forced labour is not used around the pipeline. On its website, the company states: "The local inhabitants around the Yadana pipeline say that they are happy to have us there. They are, above all, grateful that there is no forced labour in the area around our pipeline."

Palestinians Out, Jews In
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  8-4-2009
After receiving eviction notices last May, three Palestinian families constituting 53 people, including 20 children, were forcibly removed from their homes under High Court order at dawn on August 2. This is just one of several plans by various real estate groups such as Nahalat Shimon International and American businessmen such as Irving Moskowitz, to populate the areas surrounding the Old City with Jewish strongholds that sever Palestinian territorial contiguity in East Jerusalem. This prejudices any final resolution in which East Jerusalem would be the Palestinian capital. It is also in clear breach of Israel’s commitment under the Road Map. But these operations are backed by the Israel Lands Administration, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Israeli government, who are all working together to undermine any possibility for a two-state solution and are blatantly infringing on the basic human rights of the residents of what they deem to be the “united Jerusalem.”

UN to Emerge as Global IRS
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  6-25-2009
This spells the end of the U.S. as the world’s leading economic power. The UN and the IMF have positioned themselves as the world’s socialist authority whose ‘duty’ it is to spread the wealth to underprivileged nations in an attempt to form a more ‘balanced’ financial situation through a new global reserve currency, and a new global credit facility. The nerve center of this emerging new international socialist system will be the United Nations, a body that has developed a reputation for corruption and incompetence and whose "peacekeepers" have been implicated in sexual abuse and other human rights violations. This is in effect setting the foundation for that ‘new world order’ that so many people have dismissed.

She urged attendees to raise awareness in their communities of the importance of girls and advocate for policies and investments targeted toward improving their lives.

More: In modern parlance, we say what's good for the Earth is good for us because when we harm the Earth we ultimately harm ourselves, as we also do when we violate the Golden Rule by not treating other living beings as we would have them treat us…Earthcare is therefore one of the beatitudes of a humane, caring and loving community. It is also integral to achieving holistic health care: Healthcare = Peoplecare and Animalcare and Earthcare. The health and wealth of the people (Peoplecare) is dependent upon a healthy environment (Earthcare) and upon the healthy wild and domestic animal population (Animalcare). The essence of holistic health care, therefore, is to give equal and just consideration to human interests, animal rights, environmental ethics and the greater good.

Canada's tarnished international image
chara
by chara  1-6-2009    10
The film is from the 1980s and the news is from the late 1970. The Issue of this story took place in the 70s and 80s and was tried before the courts in Canada in the late 80s and 90s. This has been very well documented and was big news in Canada and Europe all along the 80s and into the 90s. The Church that ran those schools had to pay millions in damages and many priests where jailed. All you have to do is go on the Canadian Government web site and Indian Affair Ministry as well as the Justice department and see for your self.

Mugabe Unleashes Wave of Terror with Mass Abductions
spirithiker
by spirithiker  12-24-2008    1
Robert Mugabe is a 'dictator in democratic clothing'. The South African Development Community has been urging Mugabe to address the cholera epidemic (which he refuses to acknowledge) and the economic crisis (which he helped create). The U.S. recently gave $600,000 to fight the cholera epidemic. Any aid sent to this country ends up in the pockets and mouths of the ruling elite. Recent elections were marred with violence and intimidation designed to keep Mugabe in office. 'International pressure' and 'sanctions' are not changing anything in Zimbabwe. How can the world stand by and allow this humanitarian crisis to continue? We need a mechanism to rid ourselves of this vermin not give them aid.

Not a Cup, But a Cow...Long-Term Solutions for Sustainable Futures
urbanlife
by urbanlife  12-11-2008    1
Families who knew only poverty will be building new homes and starting businesses....Today, millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. How? Heifer International helps people obtain a sustainable source of food and income. A Heifer project consists of 3 essential components: * Livestock and other material goods * Training and extension work * Organizational development A holistic approach is necessary in order to build sustainable communities. They have developed a set of global initiatives to meet their mission of ending world hunger and poverty and caring for the earth. It’s not temporary relief. It’s not a handout. It’s securing a future with generations of people who have hope, health and dignity. “Passing on the Gift” means recipients agree to share the offspring of gift animals with others in need, making them equal partners with Heifer in the fight to end world hunger.

India thrashed the 'Big Mouthed' Australia in Cricket yesterday. Good going. Bank loans burdens made1000s of farmers commit suicide. Most 'Rural Areas' have no electricity and drinking water facility. High/Low Caste crimes prevention is meagre for lack of funds to educate illiterate people. Considering all these the 'Moon Launch' proves two points: India is a False Democracy and Worse than China in violations of Human Rights.

U.S. Corporations are Ugly Americans
spirithiker
by spirithiker  9-26-2008    1
American corporations pay foreign countries for rights to extract oil, gas, and minerals from within their borders. Those governments have done nothing to regulate oil company practices that pollute the environment and otherwise endanger the lives of local residents. The Bush administration, in their typically arrogant, misguided, neocon, "corporations-can-do-no-wrong" attitude, have turned a blind eye to how U.S. corporations (as representatives of our country) have done little to provide for the locals needs and security. The security for these U.S. corporations are local military who use villagers as forced laborers and freely rape local women and children. U.S. corporations, stalwarts of democracy and human rights that they are, also turn a blind eye as long as they can keep their bottom line healthy.
