POPSMilitarizing the "Homeland" Current Army doctrine is heavily-weighted towards contingency planning for "civil disturbances." As with data mining, DHS spy-satellite surveillance, blanket CCTV coverage of American cities, illegal FBI deployment of infiltrators and provocateurs, "mission creep" by the Pentagon into civil affairs are signs that stronger measures to blunt the crisis may be in the offing. While NORTHCOM insists that JTF-CS, "will not be called upon to help with law enforcement, civil disturbance or crowd control, but will be used to support lead agencies involved in saving lives," as outlined above, citing the DoD's own documents and Executive Branch National Security Presidential Directives, contingency plans for suppressing "civil disturbance" such as the Garden Plot scenario are, like an iron fist inside a velvet glove, already in place and capable at a moment's notice of striking the American people.

POPSArmy Brigade Stationed inside US Since the end of the Civil War deployment of the U.S. military inside the U.S. has been prohibited under The Posse Comitatus Act (except National Guard and Coast Guard, and use of the military on an emergency ad hoc basis is permitted, such as what happened after Hurricane Katrina).

POPSMartial Law Would Be Declared If Bailout Not Passed In House
As former California congressman Dan Hamburg said earlier this year, the 2007 National Defense Authorization Act gives the executive the power to invoke martial law in case of “major public emergencies,” not limited to “a natural disaster, a disease outbreak, a terrorist attack,” but also “any other condition in which the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to the extent that state officials cannot maintain public order.” Obviously, a financial crash and ensuing social chaos of the sort now being implemented by the ruling elite would be characterized as a dire emergency and a near perfect excuse to impose martial law, a long standing goal of the elite. As the Army Times reported last month, a battle-hardened “homeland” brigade is now “going domestic” after spending time in Iraq. It appears this illegal deployment (under Posse Comitatus) is designed to respond to “public disorder” as the economy is deliberately and cynically dismantled at the behest of our rulers.

POPSCongress OKs Bill to Improve Broadband Access Such an analysis might provide some insight as to why the U.S. -- the birthplace of the Internet -- lags behind other developed countries in broadband usage. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development ranks the U.S. 15th for broadband penetration. Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., who sponsored a similar bill that passed the House earlier this year, supported the legislation. "This initiative will help us ascertain whether the nation is achieving its broadband policy goals because, unfortunately, our current knowledge on the state of broadband deployment, speed and affordability in the U.S. is grossly and inexcusably lacking," Markey said.

POPSRussia Moving into U.S. Backyard Thanks to the arrogance of the Bush/Cheney foreign policy with Venezuela, we now have talk of nuclear reactors being built in Venezuela with Russia's assistance. Relations between U.S. and Venezuela have been deteriorating for years and as a result Russia is extending its reach around the world. If we had maintained better relations with Russia, this would not cause Americans much concern. But the reality is that we now have two oil rich nations trading nuclear technology and weapons that are not motivated to work with the U.S.

POPSPutin and ties to Latin America To validate my clip on Record's clip. They are coming. And I don't think many (maybe 5 here at Clipmarks) would relish a "decrease in US global influence". Do people/the world really want Russia, Iran, Hamas, Venezuela, N. Korea etc...to be the next power alliance?

POPS"Yankee Hegemony Is Finished," Says Chavez Chavez has called the U.S. Navy's newly re-established Fourth Fleet a threat. On Wednesday, he said he's sure "nuclear submarines pass under our noses" off Venezuela's coast. He said Venezuela is aiming to strengthen its "defensive capability with our strategic allies, and Russia is one of them." Later, Chavez called the U.S. the "empire" as he addressed troops at the christening of a newly built coast guard patrol ship. "Every day, relations between Venezuela and Russia will continue to deepen." He dismissed comparisons to the Cold War, but mentioned Cuba while saying he had been reviewing flight theory in a simulator in hopes of flying one of the Russian planes. Addressing his close friend Fidel Castro, Chavez said: "I'm going to fly a Tu-160. Fidel, I'm going to fly low past you there."

POPSWar Mom Takes Hard Line: Warns U.S. Foes When asked whether the United States should be able to invade ally Pakistan in pursuit of terrorists along the Afghanistan border, Palin said, "I believe that America has to exercise all options in order to stop the terrorists who are hellbent on destroying America and our allies." He son Track, 19, joined the Army last summer and is part of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division based at Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks. As governor, Palin spoke at a ceremony there yesterday marking the brigade's 12-month deployment to Iraq beginning next week. Palin spoke at a ceremony there yesterday marking the brigade's 12-month deployment to Iraq beginning next week. Yesterday's ceremony coincided with the seventh anniversary of 9/11. Calling the Iraq mission a "just and vital cause" and predicting victory, Palin said, "America can never go back to that false sense of security that came before Sept. 11, 2001."

POPSPutin on Bush: Bush "Not in Charge" of US Affairs This is real interesting. Three things at least can be learned: 1. Putin is on to the neoconservatives, who have Bush's ear, and control him to a great degree. Putin is right: Bush is a Puppet President 2. Putin knows Cheney's influence over Bush, who is driving the Georgia-Russia and NATO-Russia neocon led conflict. Bush is stupid and easily manipulated to a large degree. 3. Putin is naive and stupid to separate Bush the man from Bush policies. He speaks against Russia now, therefore against Putin. Reason? Bush has the ability to make light and "charm" (for lack of better word) others into frivolity and laughter, but which is a decoy from his serious crimes and corrupt actions. I wrote earlier in regard to Russia, Bush treated Putin well at his ranch in Texas after 9/11 (which was an excuse for Putin to trample Chechnyans by branding them "terrorists"), but now he will stab him in the back (missile treaties around Russia for NATO).

POPSRussian Strategic Bombers Land in Venezuela While the candidates are debating over lipstick and the ownership of the word "change", the frosty relationship between the U.S. and Russia continues to get even cooler. I'd like to hear them put this issue on the table and talk specifics about how they plan to address it. Sure feels like its back to the future . Mutually assured destruction just doesn't seem like a contemporary strategy to me...

POPSAP Doing Everything Except Actually Physically Handing Track Palin Over to Insurgents So let's analyze this now. Let's say I'm an insurgent and I want to take out the potential Vice President's son. I now know where to look for him. I know what unit he's in down to the company level. I know how to identify that unit (because I know how to use "the Google"). If I don't find him immediately, I know how long he'll be in the country--which guides my sense of urgency. And, of course, I know what he looks like. The worst thing about this is the added danger in which the entire unit is now placed. The men of the unit now face a more precarious situation because there is the potential that the unit will be specifically targeted. I know everyone in the media is giddy over this deal, but those covering the story need to shut their pieholes. That goes for Governor Palin, too--who should probably now be prohibited from holding a security clearance if--God forbid--she gets elected.

POPSIs the McCain-Palin Campaign Violating Operational Security?
And while not illegal, if she really did believe that's when he's deploying to Iraq, then she didn't know enough to keep quiet about that to keep from violating OPSEC - something a potential Commander in Chief should know. But, more disturbing, and definitely in violation of security, are an explosion of stories that say specifically where in Iraq Track is deploying to, which have been dutifully eaten up by right wing websites, and reprinted. I will not reprint it here, because I would only be compounding the issue. But, unfortunately, it is very easy to find on the web at this point. It is simply impossible that any reporter could figure this out on their own. Just by knowing Track's name and the date he is heading to Kuwait, one could not figure out specifically where Track and his company would be going in Iraq. There's a reason it's impossible to figure that out - because the military doesn't want that information out there.

POPSSo Ossetia claims to down Georgian drone Numerous flights by reconnaissance drones over South Ossetia were reported by Russian peacekeepers before Georgia launched its devastating military offensive against the region on August 8. POPSA signal to NATO "Russia. This is about Georgia being competitive with Russia for the European market and Georgian moves to try to enter NATO. This is Putin saying "back -off" NATO." Russia is creating problems for many of it's break-away states. Usually, as in the case with Ukraine recently, it centers on oil. And we can see that Russia is working very hard to buy and claim oil reserves all over the world, they use their resources as weapons against it's former states, and reassert it's will in the region and the world. These motivations are even more troubling when you consider that many journalists consider Russia to be a modern fascist police state.
