Amnesty Now!
merrie
by merrie  10-17-2009    1
Let’s play a hypothetical game. Let us assume that Gutierrez’s bill passes, and he achieves his major goal of a general amnesty. The 12 million aliens currently residing in the country illegally suddenly find themselves free to stay, become card-carrying members of the Democratic Party, and live happily ever after. What happens to the next person who steals across the border? History has shown us that, after an amnesty, the rate of illegal border crossings increases. After the last amnesty bill in 1986, the US experienced a flood of new illegal aliens crossing the border. In the twenty-year period between 1985 and 2005, the number of illegal residents soared from an estimated 2-3 million to about 11 million. It is only human nature that, upon hearing of an amnesty, people would, predictably, risk all to come to the US by any means and simply wait out their chance in the hopes of catching the next one.

Evil Ahmadinejad in Denial as He Discusses 'democratic' Iran at UN

by merrie  9-24-2009    2
Those who stayed had to all but stifle their laughter when Ahmadinejad heralded Iran's recent "glorious and fully democratic election" - a contest that sparked massive street protests, which ended only after Ahmadinejad's thugs brutally beat and killed opponents. "I don't think I have sever seen a walkout of this magnitude," Walter Russell Mead of the conservative Hudson Institute told CNN after Ahmadinejad finished playing to the half-empty General Assembly hall. "It was a speech Adolf Hitler could have given." Outside UN headquarters, hundreds of Iranians picketed the Iranian strongman for much of the day. "He is not our voice. He is not our representative. We want him out of the UN," said Masomeh Ataey, 52, who traveled from Virginia to join hundreds of flag-waving protesters at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. Ahmadinejad insisted his country is ready to shake all hands "that are honestly extended to us," which seemed to be an odd reversal on his comment Tuesday that he'd . . .

a state political race by the president, and is a delicate one, given that Mr. Paterson is one of only two African-American governors in the nation. Hey Obama, as long as you’re meddling in state politics to undermine black governors, you might want to consider throwing Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick under the same bus. He’s way down in the polls, too! By the way, Mr. President, congratulations on the state politics-meddling re Ted Kennedy’s deathbed wish to reverse his 2004 request for a Massachusetts law that would have barred then-Gov. Mitt Romney from appointing a replacement to John Kerry in the event he … snort … excuse me … got elected president. With last week’s 95-58 vote in the Massachusetts House, it’s looking good. The President of the United States and others who do not reside in Massachusetts, such Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, have been meddling in local politics because they are worried that despite dominating House, Senate and White House . . .

G-20 Summit Begins
sahara
by sahara  9-20-2009
The speakers at the rally were diverse internationally, if not philosophically. They included Walden Bello, an antiglobalist professor at the University of the Philippines and representative in that country's Congress; James Quilligan, economic adviser to former President Jimmy Carter, former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and former French President Francois Mitterand; and Anna Pinto, program director of the Center for Organization, Research and Education in northeast India. Generally, the speakers believe the G-20 controls the global economy on behalf of banks and transnational corporations, at the expense of most citizens. "The G-20 as a mechanism to save globalization is doomed to fail," Bello said. Quilligan mocked security preparations, including plans for more than 3,000 police officers downtown, as the "biggest mobilization of security in Pittsburgh history since the French and Indian War."

Joe Wilson Exposed as Pathological Liar
foxyarse
by foxyarse  9-12-2009
When he was in the sixth grade, he lied about painting swastikas on Chung's Low-Country Chinese Restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina, which he mistook for a Jewish Temple. "We had to wash out that boy's mouth so much," said Mamie Pittypat, 93, retired principal of Wilson's alma mater, the Brigadier General Hamilton Prioleau Bee Elementary School, "that he had bubbles coming out of his ass!". Throughout his high school career, he insisted that he was really the love child of Strom Thurmond and Dolly Parton. His lying prowess in college soon made him legendary, earning him the nickname "Jivin' Joe", which he was known to hate because it sounded "so NEGRO". He was such a prolific liar while attending the University of South Carolina School of Law that they made him Valedictorian, and he received more offers from real estate firms than any graduate in the school's history. He went on to make a fortune selling condemned buildings to illegal immigrants before he co-founded the law fir

Obama and The Union Thugs

by merrie  8-26-2009    2
In St. Louis, Democratic Representative Russ Carnahan held a town hall meeting. In attendance at this meeting were members of the union S.E.I.U, Service Employees International Union. They were not wearing brown shirts, but wore purple t-shirts with their union logo on the shirts. After the meeting outside was a gentleman named Kenneth Gladney. Mr. Gladney was giving out or selling little yellow flags from the American Revolution, which pictured a snake with the words, "Do not tread on me." The union thugs engaged Mr. Gladney, a conservative in a heated dialog. During which a union thug punched Mr. Gladney in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, giving a union member the opportunity to kick Mr. Gladney while on the ground. Mr. Gladney had to be taken to the hospital as a result of this vicious beating from these brown shirt type thugs. Could you just see Hitler smiling? Mr. Gladney was interviewed by Neil Cavuto, and related the following in part:

"I think people are getting the feedback that they're having very good conversations about what's in the legislation -- what people would like to see, what options they want to have, why they think it's important," he said. "I said this yesterday, I'll say this again: while I appreciate that you all have decided that every town hall meeting ends in pushing, shoving and yelling...they're not completely indicative of what's going on in America." Still, the administration will continue trying to rebut attacks on Obama's proposals, he said. "I think he believes very strongly, as we talked about yesterday, that it is important to address misconceptions or misimpressions that have been left out there about the bills. I do believe that the president feels strongly that when he makes his case, it helps the case for overall health care reform," Gibbs told reporters during his daily briefing. "So he felt very satisfied with what happened in New Hampshire. He was able to address conc

Democrat Corruption On A Roll

Scandals involving the Obama Administration include prominent cabinet picks, some confirmed and others who withdrew amid intense public scrutiny of their wrongdoings. Former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle dropped his bid to be Health Secretary after being exposed for failing to pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes over the years and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson dropped out as Commerce Secretary amid a grand jury investigation into his out-of-state political donors getting a lucrative state contract. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was confirmed even though he knowingly hired an illegal immigrant and failed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes on his lucrative salary. The nation’s new Deputy Defense Secretary (William Lynn) was a major defense industry lobbyist before becoming the Pentagon’s second-in-command, a violation of Obama’s “strict ethics rules” banning lobbyists from his administration.

Republican Re-Education Camps?

MN Representative Michelle Bachmann (Schlockmann?) went ballistic and called AmeriCorps a system of "re-education" camps". It turns out that Rush and his GOP butt-kissers are the ones actually talking about "re-education". Those will be the placces where the staff uniforms include flip-flops. You have to give Cantor credit for having a spine more flexible than a cat's. Back in 1960, people were worried that a Democratic win would mean a White House controlled by the Vatican. It would seem that the Republicans are being controlled from a radio studio in Palm Beach Florida.

But many of the independent investors balked. ‘Financial Sacrifices’ The reasoning of the hold-outs was captured in a statement by OppenheimerFunds Inc., which said the government “unfairly asked our fund shareholders to make financial sacrifices greater than those being made by unsecured creditors.” Stories circulated that the Treasury Department exerted extreme pressure behind the scenes when investors refused to take the deal. Public pressure was exerted as well. President Barack Obama went to the podium to criticize the recalcitrant investors, and Democratic Representative John Dingell of Michigan pressed the threats even harder: “The rogue hedge funds that refused to agree to a fair offer to exchange debt for cash from the U.S. Treasury — firms I label as the ‘vultures’ — will now be dealt with accordingly in court,” Dingell said.

The US took a step toward a rapprochement with the council on March 4 by participating in it for the first time and urging it to address all violations of rights around the world and to stop singling out Israel for criticism. Of the 10 special sessions held by the council, five have been called to discuss and criticize Israeli policies toward Palestinians and Lebanon. Asked if Washington would attempt to shield Israel from criticism if it wins a seat on the council, Rice said, "The Human Rights Council has the potential to be and should be a venue for dealing with the most egregious instances of human rights abuses." "And we are running for a seat on the council because we believe that human rights are universal, they need to be universally respected," she added. Farmers Want Obama to Make Carbon a Cash Crop Under Climate Law
merrie
by merrie  3-27-2009    2
Businesses adopting clean-energy methods like wind or solar power could sell permits for a profit. Rural Votes Crucial Agricultural offsets may be crucial to attracting enough votes from rural lawmakers to pass climate-change legislation, said Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, a South Dakota Democrat. “We have to insist that agriculture has a seat at the table,” she said. Republican congressional leaders have likened Obama’s cap- and-trade proposal to a tax increase on energy, and the plan may pit coal-producing states against other areas. Farm organizations are also divided. The American Farm Bureau Federation, the biggest farm group, has opposed cap-and-trade plans, saying they would raise fuel and fertilizer costs. The National Farmers Union likes the idea and is lobbying for a slice of the carbon market.

Susan Collins and George Voinovich, who back the legislation in committee. Still, Holmes Norton says she expects Republican "mischief," possibly in the form of "poison pill" amendments. Here's hoping it goes through as expected. It's absurd that the nation's capital suffers taxation without representation.

"It was scary, because when I had the strength to stand up and look at myself in the mirror, I looked like somebody out of Auschwitz," Merrick said. A friend suggested she try smoking marijuana to calm her body. She did - just one puff, she said. Then, she asked her husband for a drink of nut brown beer. He bought some, she said, and poured it into a tiny glass. "And it stayed down, and it felt good," Merrick said. "It was the first time that I had some kind of relief to my system." It was illegal. But to her mind, it was a medical necessity.

NY Rep Eric Massa (D), Trying To Be A "Greenie"

. . . . . . . back to GM. But, it is even funnier. You see, one SUV was used to tow the other until the towed SUV was needed to tow the second Equinox back to green-central. The Tahoe gets about 20 miles to the gallon, but less when towing another SUV. In the end, Massa’s trip was neither emissions-free, nor low on the use of standard gasoline. In fact, it was far more expensive than if he’d just taken any old regular car on the market today and driven himself to D.C. Naturally, Carolyn Markey, the GM spokesman for the stunt, said it was all part of the plan… or so goes the Malarky that Markey ladled out to the press on January 8. It was all a show best seen as a Saturday Night Live skit gone stupid. Good choice, New York. Another fine, fine Congressman sent to D.C.
