A Reid too far?

by dl211  12-10-2009    1
“Reid ducked several national questions. On whether he would ‘opt out’ of the public option if the Senate health-care bill his father has written becomes law, he answered that he has no idea what the eventual health-care law would entail. ‘I’m not going to get into what the law might be.’ Regarding whether he supported President Obama’s troop increase to Afghanistan, Reid replied that he’s running for governor of Nevada, not federal office. ‘That policy is best left to the president.’ He also declined to talk about his father’s Senate race. ‘I think you should ask him to handicap his own race.’” The National Republican Senate Committee quickly jumped on the stories, sending mailings to Nevada journalists. Though Rory Reid said nothing against his father in the press interviews, the GOP mailing was headed, “Not exactly a vote of confidence from Harry Reid’s own son.” And Las Vegas columnist Jon Ralston posted a piece headlined “Reids’ national media misadventures …” that said, “But t

in exchange for pledges to donate $30,400 personally or to bundle $300,000 in contributions ahead of the 2010 midterm elections.” Yup, they’re just haggling over the price. Many Obama bundlers have secured slots on federal advisory panels and commissions. Still more have benefited from the time-honored patronage tradition of rewarding political benefactors with ambassadorships. Clinton did it. Bush did it. And despite all his fantastical, Balloon Boy-level rhetoric of bringing a “new politics” to Washington, Obama’s done it, too. His ambassador to London, Louis Susman, is a Chicago crony with no diplomatic experience who bundled between $200,000 and $500,000 for Team Obama and is known as “The Vacuum Cleaner” for his fundraising prowess. His ambassador to France, entertainment mogul Charlie Rivkin headed up Obama’s California fundraising operations, raking in $500,000 for the campaign and another $300,000 for the inaugural. His ambassador to Spain, Boston money

According to the OFA Web site, the 20 finalists will be judged by the public and a panel of experts that includes DNC Chairman Tim Kaine, Obama campaign chief David Plouffe, Rep. Obama's Gay Outreach: All Talk, No Action
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  10-11-2009    1
Well, just as I predicted, last night when he the addressed the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, the all but de facto gay auxiliary of the Democratic National Committee, the President got his “standing ovation“.* The “cheering crowd” gave the Democrat a warm welcome even as he acknowledged “some policy changes he promised on the campaign trail are not coming as quickly as they expected.“ Promises, promises, but not a plan. That’s not enough for many gay activists, but it will win over the Washington-based leadership of HRC and other gay groups, ever eager to sing the praises of a politician with a (D) after his name who says the right things to their audiences. Of course, to those activists, with highfalutin language and that (D), it really doesn’t matter what he does. Once again, it was typical Obama, lofty words with little to show for them. Sickening. Wake up gay lefties....wake up.

File 87 Obama's Socialist Appointees-Where is the Spotlight?
merrie
by merrie  9-23-2009    1
Our goal as socialists is to abolish private ownership of the means of production. Our immediate task is to limit the capitalist class’s prerogatives in the workplace... In the short run we must at least minimize the degree of exploitation of workers by capitalists. We can accomplish this by promoting full employment policies, passing local living wage laws, but most of all by increasing the union movement’s power... DSA has some cross membership with the Communist Party and considerable cross-membership with the the equally militant Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. DSA has close ties to many Congressman, including John Conyers, Danny Davis, Jan Schakowsky (all close Obama supporters) Jerrold Nadler and Bob Filner. DSA has key personnel or allies at the top of AFL-CIO, SEIU, United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers of America and other major unions. DSA has considerable influence in ACORN, Working Families Party, Green Party, Democratic Party . . .

Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who is working on a proposal for one-time payments for Social Security recipients. "It is my view that seniors are going to need help this year, and it would not be acceptable for Congress to simply turn its back," he said. President Barack Obama has said he would like tackle Social Security next year, after Congress finishes work on health care, climate change and new financial regulations. ..maybe seniors could expect IOUs by then.

Obama Caught By Surprise
merrie
by merrie  8-19-2009    3
"We've gotten to this point where health care on the left is determined by the breadth of the public option. I don't understand how that has become the measure of whether what we achieve is health-care reform." "It's a mystifying thing," he added. "We're forgetting why we are in this." Another top aide expressed chagrin that a single element in the president's sprawling health-care initiative has become a litmus test for whether the administration is serious about the issue. "It took on a life of its own," he said. In search of new momentum, Obama plans to discuss the matter Thursday with thousands of his most loyal supporters in a nationwide "strategy call" hosted by Organizing for America, a grass-roots arm of the Democratic National Committee. He is likely to repeat what he and his top surrogates have said for months: that he will not "draw a line in the sand" about the inclusion of a public plan and that no one provision is a "deal breaker" . . .

"I said this yesterday, I'll say this again: while I appreciate that you all have decided that every town hall meeting ends in pushing, shoving and yelling...they're not completely indicative of what's going on in America." Still, the administration will continue trying to rebut attacks on Obama's proposals, he said. "I think he believes very strongly, as we talked about yesterday, that it is important to address misconceptions or misimpressions that have been left out there about the bills. I do believe that the president feels strongly that when he makes his case, it helps the case for overall health care reform," Gibbs told reporters during his daily briefing.  Senator Barbara Boxer has denounced dissenters from Obama's health care proposals as too "well-dressed" to be genuine. Only the Emperor has new clothes. Thankfully, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has seen through the "manufactured anger" of "the Brooks Brothers brigade." Did he announce this in a crumpled suit? He's a Press Secretary who won't press. Apparently, the health care debate now has a dress code. Soon you won't be able to get in unless you're wearing Barack Obama mom-jeans, manufactured at a converted GM plant by an assembly line of retrained insurance salesmen. Any day now, Hollywood will greenlight a new movie in which an insane Sarah Palin figure picks out her outfit for spreading disinformation (The Lyin', The Witch And The Wardrobe). (Nancy Pelosi) "I think they're AstroTurf," she declared. "They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care." So, on Monday, the official White House Web site drew attention to the . . .

"The most mockery-inviting aspect of all this is that Obamacare-supporting Democrats are now ducking constituent meetings back in their home districts, afraid to face questions from the people they are paid to represent. Given the Obama team’s contempt for these people, and its utterly dismissive attitude toward their concerns, is it any wonder “the mob” doesn’t want Obama in charge of their health care? " While there have been several clips about the recent attacks on the opposers of the Administration's & Congresses policies, I'm not sure there have been enough. With the Administration now calling for citizens to send suspicious or phony solicitations and emails to them...assuming that they want their names and addresses...bears the marks of political informants or the creation of enemies lists.

Now, that cabal is accusing the broad coalition of taxpayer activists, libertarians, independents, talk radio loyalists, bloggers, and first-time protesters against socialized medicine of being, yes, wealthy and astroturfed. In a comical missive issued Tuesday afternoon, Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse complained: “The Republicans and their allied groups — desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill — are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.” The DNC definition of “thoughtful:” Sitting silent about the lack of transparency, deliberation, truth in numbers, and reciprocity on the Obamacare plan.  "Keep up the heat" translated into Organizing for America/Democratic National Committee attack ads on moderate Democrats who have revolted against Obamacare's high costs and expansive government powers over medical decisions. Looks like there won't be a health care beer summit anytime soon. The CBO and the Blue Dogs got off easy compared to inspectors general targeted by Team Obama goons. Former AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin was slimed as mentally incompetent ("confused" and "disoriented") after blowing the whistle on several cases of community service tax fraud, including the case of Obama crony Kevin Johnson. Johnson is the NBA star turned Sacramento mayor who ran a federally funded nonprofit group employing AmeriCorps volunteers, who were exploited to perform campaign work for Johnson and to provide personal services (car washes, errands) to Johnson and his staff. Walpin filed suit last week to get his job back -- and to defend the integrity and independence

Cheney broke the law with CIA program
darkeforce
by darkeforce  7-13-2009    3
Panetta's subordinates told him about the program on June 23, and he briefed two intelligence committees the following day, the Times reported. Under the National Security Act of 1947, the U.S. president must ensure the intelligence committees are informed about "intelligence activities in the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity." However, the Act also stipulates briefings should be held "to the extent consistent with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters." Feinstein said the law shows Congress should have been told about the program, and the Bush administration's failure to do so "is a big problem." It's unclear how U.S. President Barack Obama will address the issue. Since taking office, he has been reluctant to uncover any alleged wrongdoing by the Bush administration.

But, in the end, it all comes down to that pink unicorn, that image of Barack Obama, presidential candidate, new kind of postpartisan politician with his airy rhetoric and sweeping promises to all and sundry.
