POPSNobody Wants To Be On Obama's Ticket McGovern had the same problem- and felt forced to pick Thomas Eagleton, who had to be replaced by Sargen Shriver, A Kennedy apparatchik. * Edwards says he's not interested. * Biden says he's not interested, but might say yes if asked. . * Ditto Kerry. * Governor Tom Strickland of Ohio says he would “absolutely not” join the Obama ticket. * Webb says he's not interested in VP. * Gov Bredesen says he's not interested. * Sen Bayh says he's not interested - but might say yes. At this rate Obama might have to pick Caroline!

POPSObama vs. Obama finds much comfort in these increasingly peculiar neck-snapping reversals. Despite the evident dishonesty of these moves, though, those of us with whom Obama is suddenly discovering so many points of agreement should certainly make the most of his awkward dance. Will other prominent Democrats agree with their candidate's newly discovered views? If not, why not?

POPSBill Clinton says Barack Obama must 'kiss my ass' for his support "It has long been known that Mr Clinton is angry at the way his own reputation was tarnished during the primary battle when several of his comments were interpreted as racist." White liberals are used to spewing out often bogus "racism" smears at their conservative opponents. It's ironic to see them tarred with their own brush.

POPSEvery Man a King: The idea of shared wealth This comes from a wonderful brief yet concise web page about poverty and social services in the US from 1601 till now. It explains "Poverty Law" and how it came to America and much more. Huey Long is just part of the history of this page but my favorite part. All worth the read. Personally I found the history a bit disheartening as perceptions have not changed much in the history of our brief nation.

POPSThe FEC is Ready for Action (hopefully McCain action!)
The new commissioners joining sitting commissioner Ellen Weintraub, a Democrat, are: * Democrat Cynthia L. Bauerly of Minnesota * Republican Caroline C. Hunter of Florida * Republican Donald F. McGahn of D.C. * Republican Matthew S. Petersen of Utah Also, recess appointee Steven T. Walther, a Democrat, was confirmed to a full term, completing the six-member panel. These appointments come after six months during which the FEC could not take official action because it did not have the required minimum of four commissioners, making it impossible to issue advisory opinions or dole out public funding. As we've written about several times, the impasse began when President Bush sent a controversial nominee to the Senate for confirmation. As for the McCain debacle, "Knowingly violating the spending limit is a criminal offense that could put McCain at risk of stiff fines and up to five years in prison." http://www.democrats.org/a/2008/02/democratic_part_8.php

POPSU.S. officials condoned Kurdish oil deal From the article.... "Kurdish officials have clashed with Baghdad over the national oil law, which will determine how contracts are awarded and how revenues are distributed. The northern Iraqi region has signed several exploration deals with foreign firms, which Baghdad says are illegal."

POPSObama Pro Quo Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., who also chairs a subcommittee that oversees taxation and IRS oversight, had to donate $10,700 in loan savings from Countrywide when his deal came to light. Obama's veep vetter James Johnson quit after his Countrywide arrangement became known. Yet another Democrat's sweetheart mortgage deal is exposed — and this time it's the party's standard bearer. What could Sen. Barack Obama do for a lender in exchange for more than $100,000? Plenty. If Obama is animated by high ideals for the future, why are we finding so many lowdown deals in his past?

POPSLefty Blogosphere Petitions Dems to Drop Lieberman The piece goes on: Next week, Democratic activists and liberal bloggers plan to deliver the petition to members of the Senate Democratic Steering Committee, which will make recommendations on committee assignments next Congress to Nevada Democrat Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader. They also plan to keep the grassroots pressure on the Democrats until those decisions are made after the November elections. Leaders of this effort hope to mirror the success bloggers had in fueling the candidacy of businessman Ned Lamont, who beat Lieberman on an anti-war platform in the Connecticut 2006 Senate Democratic primary. Running as an Independent, Lieberman later defeated Lamont in the midterm elections. Now that Liberman's stumping for McCain and a continued majority in the Senate is a leadpipe cinch, dems really should kick Joe out on his ass. Screw him. They need this guy like a boat needs a drain.

POPSObama courts conservatives with new faith program “While I could sit in church and pray all I want, I wouldn’t be fulfilling God’s will unless I went out and did the Lord’s work,” he declared. Oh, GREAT! Another Fairy tale believer in the WH! Sweet Jeebus and Ramona. What a revolting development this is.

POPSWhy liberals like high gas prices Of course they forget the poor who are hit hardest when gas prices go up. So much for the compassionate liberal. Barack said recently, he is glad gas prices are going up so people will drive less. But BO...don't you know what happens to food prices, electricity bills, rent etc when gas prices go up?

POPSPolitical correctness? A reassuring answer but one that seems to be obscured in the current political climate. A very useful website.

POPSObama’s Weakness With Voters: Democrats Problem With White Voters
has become the hot topic among many who say racial bias explains it. Of course it would be naive to believe that race is not a factor in America today. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Mr. Obama’s relative weakness among white voters is solely, or even mainly, due to the fact that he is black and that three quarters of voters this year will be white. In 1991, when I wrote a book about how the Democrats were failing to deal with their white voter problem, I ran into a number of editors who wanted to know why anyone would care — and not too subtly wondered whether looking at the reasons for their disaffection might be too politically touchy. White voters, as a group, are more likely to favor a limited role for government here at home and a more aggressive posture overseas. In general, polls show Democrats — and a disproportionate share of black voters — favor a smaller, less adventurous military and a larger role for government on the domestic front.

POPSLieberman Warns of a 9/11 in 2009 for McCain
Islamo propaganda from this Israeli-neoconservative democrat. Is it not more evident just who was behind 9/11 and the absolutely unproven claims that "Islamic extremists"--i.e. bin Laden who denied it, and 19 Muslims, half of which were proven alive afterward--did it? Who benefits from 9/11 and this propaganda more than Israel and the neoconservative agenda for a new middle east? We know who would be behind it if another occurs, the same behind the first one. For Lieberman to "predict" this demonstrates inside knowledge (if it happens) and a clear motive on his part for even desiring it to push the war agenda. Lieberman's argument is also entirely irrational. If Islamic extremists want the U.S. out of the middle east and wars halted, they would do nothing at all. There has been nothing prohibiting repeated terrorism if those blamed for 9/11 were true and Al Qaeda was not in Iraq. Motive, means, and opportunity point to the real perpetrators per criminology 101.

POPSBoth sides of your mouth... Conservatives are experts at speaking out of both sides of their mouths... The latest case in point: They seem outraged at Gen W. Clark's comments about McCain's experience... but I bet many of these folks were the same people that wore "purple band-aids" at the 2004 Republican convention denoting their "contempt" for 2x purple heart winner John Kerry and his Vietnam war record. I guess you only have to respect the service of conservatives.

POPSCandidates' Approaches to Energy I'm glad to see both candidates very focused on energy policy - it's something this country has been lacking for a very long time. I have to agree with Obama on this one, with one big caveat. That he doesn't earmark the money brought in for more wasteful government spending. No public interest programs, or doing colleagues favors by funding their efforts. Use that money to reduce our deficit, fund research into alternative energy, and give the rest back to the taxpayers. I'm a democrat, but one of the things I can't stand about many democrats is government spending. Let's reduce the amount of government programs and give more of that money back to taxpayers.
