POPSObama Sets Trap for Republicans No matter what the Democrats say to the Republicans or anything that they try to put in there, it would only be a lie. They would sneak things in that none of us want. I believe we should wait until all of them are voted out. We get people in there who care about America and believe in the Constitution and then we can listen to them about health care. RUSH: Absolutely right. Absolutely right. The Republicans ought not get suckered by this and go anywhere near it. CALLER: Say "no!" RUSH: Say "hell, no!" POPSThe Progressive Tantrum "Also read Gerard Alexander on liberal condescension. It occurs to me that American liberals are re-learning the lesson of the old left-wing chant: The people united can never be defeated. POPSDemocracy Incorporated! A good recap of the Conservative Roberts Activist Supreme Court decision in "Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission". Apparently, the historical and thoughtful process involved since the days of Thomas Jefferson did not sway those on the Court who wanted to overturn 100 years of precedent!

POPSGore Vidal Quotes By the time a man gets to be presidential material, he's been bought ten times over. Gore Vidal Democracy is supposed to give you the feeling of choice, like Painkiller X and Painkiller Y. But they're both just aspirin. Gore Vidal Every time a friend succeeds, I die a little. Gore Vidal Fifty percent of people won't vote, and fifty percent don't read newspapers. I hope it's the same fifty percent. Gore Vidal Half of the American people have never read a newspaper. Half never voted for President. One hopes it is the same half. Gore Vidal I never miss a chance to have sex or appear on television. Gore Vidal I'm all for bringing back the birch, but only between consenting adults. Gore Vidal

POPSOur Incredible Shrinking Democracy Democracy requires at least three things: (1) Important decisions are made in the open. (2) The public and its representatives have an opportunity to debate them, so the decisions can be revised in light of what the public discovers and wants. And (3) those who make the big decisions are accountable to voters.

POPSHungry Ghosts I saw an interview on Dem. Now the other day which was absorbing to say the least. Amy Goodman had Dr. Gabor Mate from Canada on her show and what he had to say was eye-opening. Dr. Mate approaches addiction with a new attitude and U.S. doctors and medical caregivers should listen up. A few quotes: AMY GOODMAN: What does the title of your book mean, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts? DR. GABOR MATÉ: Well, it’s a Buddhist phrase. In the Buddhists’ psychology, there are a number of realms that human beings cycle through, all of us. One is the human realm, which is our ordinary selves. The hell realm is that of unbearable rage, fear, you know, these emotions that are difficult to handle. The animal realm is our instincts and our id and our passions. Now, the hungry ghost realm, the creatures in it are depicted as people with large empty bellies, small mouths and scrawny thin necks. They can never get enough satisfaction. MORE BELOW

POPSUSA History in Haiti People were moaning this week: "How could Haiti arrest our wonderful USA missionaries." But calling themselves 'missionaries,' is like a mask. The facts are criminal acts. Thinking we're the 'saviors,' of Haiti also a Mask. This article, printed yesterday, is a good summary of USA involvement in Haiti. It's great that Anyone does Anything to help Haiti out but thinking the USA is their 'friendly big brother,' or something is way off the mark. A summary from the Aristide days sums it up: QUOTE: "Since the election of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2000, the United States has moved to sabotage Haiti's fledgling democracy through an economic aid embargo, massive funding of elite opposition groups, support for paramilitary coup attempts, and a propaganda offensive against the Aristide government. Hidden from the headlines for years, this campaign has now become an open effort to destroy a popularly elected, progressive government." http://www.haitiaction.net/HFTH/

POPSTech group's poll suggests candidates should 'friend' voters I believe it's inevitable that we will eventually vote electronically. In the mean time, we should be extending the existing technologies in ways that enhance the ability to Vote directly (as opposed to the current system of "representatives"), so that we might be able to enjoy an improved democracy. Most likely this will "disturb" the existing party hierarchies that make most of the decisions at this tome, so it's reasonable to assume this will take much longer to implement than it should. On the other hand, should the "silent majority" continue to find effective ways of voicing its will, this may yet become a most interesting decade.

POPSDemand Question Time! This would be a very good initiative. We should all sign-in with our demands for a "Question Time" that will put the process directly in front of the public with open discussion and with an "educational" back and forth airing of the issues. It would be a sharp contrast to Fox News "Fair and Balanced" routine. I think that our democracy is in trouble if we don't get the public educated on the FACTS of the issues, and I think that Obama is very capable in this regard.

POPSLabour killing democracy Harriet Harman and Labour at their most devious. If you have the slightest care for the health of this once great nation, you would be doing precisely what I am to do. Send this to my MP with full condemnation. Not that Gordon Marsden gives a damn. His words are as sound as Tony Blair's were accurate in yesterdays examination.

POPSCorporation Files to Run for Congress Campaign manager William Klein promises an aggressive, historic campaign that "puts people second" or "even third." "The business of America is business, as we all know," Klein says. "But now, it's the business of democracy too." Klein plans to use automated robo-calls, "Astroturf" lobbying and "computer-generated avatars" to get out the vote. Added Hensal: "This is the next frontier of civil rights."
