POPSH1N1 (Swine 'Flu) overhyped After an otherwise healthy 13-year-old boy died of a H1N1 infection, demand for the vaccine jump drastically after the heavy media attention what was given to a horribly tragic, but still singular death from H1N1. Clinics were forced to shut down due to lack of supplies, and people who really should have gotten the vaccine first (like young children, pregnant mothers and seniors) lost out. H1N1 Influenza is a mere fraction of the virility of normal seasonal 'flu, and has fewer serious cases and deaths than seasonal 'flu. The normal, sensible steps you take to avoid getting the 'flu every year will work as well for H1N1. Yes, it looks serious when the media focuses on individual deaths from H1N1, but such coverage is deceptive. A few hundred deaths, Canada-side from H1N1 is tragic, but seasonal 'flu will claim several thousand, as it does every year. Just keep some perspective. Be aware; be mindful, but don't be scared. Think sensibly.

I laughed when I first started seeing this on packages. I had been eating more than one serving size pretty much my whole life, and still do. I think most of us do. The problem I have with eating right is knowing whether or not I’m getting the right amount of nutrients necessary for optimum health and a strong immune system. Most doctors will tell you that you can obtain all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients you need from a normal healthy diet. It would be good if this was the case but because of the degradation of the food supply it has become almost impossible to achieve a diet for optimal health and the prevention of degenerative disease. I guess this is why the nutritional supplement market is so wide open.

POPS[WATCH] Ousted Honduran President Zelaya Goes to Washington Interesting: according to Real News the San Jose Accords requires Zelya to abandon the consitutional referendum that he advocated when in office. The referendum, if successful, would have brought participatory democracy to Honduras. In Honduras, particiipatory democracy is prohibited by law. People are forbidden to ask questions about taxation, social programs, etc. The only way to change the law is to amend the constitution: Zelaya was ousted by the elite for his efforts. Both weapons exploded in their faces, so the St. Petersburg Times embraced the sniper rifle of subtlety in its coverage of Castor's town hall. Jon Henke of The Next Right heard the first shot -- the newspaper changed its story, literally -- and exposed the sniper. The Times (whose parent company once employed me at Congressional Quarterly) initially, and correctly, thought it fair to note that the Service Employees International Union organized a counter protest at Castor's event.
