Focus on the Family and Pam Tebow Play the Left Like a Stradivarius
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  Yesterday 4:22 PM
That — that — was the ad that caused the pro-abortion crowd to go into a frenzy of censorship advocacy, character assassination, and mask-slipping demonization of mothers who dare choose life over death for their unborn children. In one fell swoop, Focus on the Family and the Tebows exposed the real pro-abortion left to a larger audience than, perhaps, had ever seen them in their natural state: as abortion-loving autocrats who despised Choice almost as much as (infant) life itself — all without really having to do anything. The fact that the commercial was not overtly pro-life (or anti-abortion) made the PWNing even sweeter, and likely brought far more people over to the Life side of the issue (or, at least, divorced them from the pro-abortion side) than an overtly anti-abortion spot would have.

Daily Presidential Tacking Poll
kareval
by kareval  2-7-2010
As the federal budget debate heats up, just 35% of voters realize that most federal spending goes to just three areas: National Defense, Social Security, and Medicare. Check out our review of last week’s key polls to see “What They Told Us.” The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook. Overall, 44% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. That matches the lowest level of overall approval yet measured for this president. Fifty-five percent (55%) now disapprove. The first review of Scott Rasmussen’s new book said “In Search of Self-Governance promises to be the type of provocative and compelling tome for the decade to come that The Third Wave and The Tipping Point were in decades past.” Larry Sabato calls it a “thought-pro

Obama's Stunning Admission
merrie
by merrie  2-7-2010    1
Obama admits Dems "snuck in" health care provisions Posted by Tom Bevan So it's a bit of shock to find out now - from the President himself, no less - that one or both of the bills that passed Congress late last year (the House passed its version in late November, the Senate on Christmas Eve Day) contained language that would have violated this pledge. If we take this statement at face value, President Obama is admitting the the health care bills passed by either the House or Senate (or both) contained provisions which were "snuck in" - presumably by Democratic members and perhaps on behalf of certain lobbyists - that would have in fact prevented people from keeping their current insurance and/or choosing the doctor they want. DARPA's Immortal Synthetic Organisms
dcoda
by dcoda  2-6-2010
Darpa's Synthetic Biology Project issued this statement: "The concern that humans might be overreaching when we create organisms that never before existed can be a safety concern, but it also returns us to disagreements about what is our proper role in the natural world (a debate largely about non-physical harms or harms to well-being)." The word on the street is that synthetic organisms have existed for years. Very hush hush, until now.

Our Incredible Shrinking Democracy
Socratoad

Democracy requires at least three things: (1) Important decisions are made in the open. (2) The public and its representatives have an opportunity to debate them, so the decisions can be revised in light of what the public discovers and wants. And (3) those who make the big decisions are accountable to voters.

MYG | Would health reform stop this practice?

Is this a harbinger to things to come if there is no health care reform? Perhaps this account will give all us pause to contemplate putting the breaks on the national health reform plan. Child porn victim would like to be paid for all those pictures people have downloaded of her

My comment: So negative this story is, sometimes there are no answers at all, just questions. One thing for sure, there are no winners. Article: The judge in the case acknowledged, "We're dealing with a frontier here." "The issue is part of a larger debate over fairness in sentencing sex offenders. For years, lawmakers (and some voters) have reasoned that virtually no punishment was too severe for such criminals; even statutory limits on sentencing were often exceeded." "Now some courts have begun to push back, saying these heavy sentences are improper, and a new emphasis has arisen on making sex offenders pay monetary damages for their crimes. If such damages become widespread, experts say, it may make it easier to reach a consensus on measured sentencing." A related article in the Virginian-Pilot is here (A man who lived in Virginia Beach and was a member of the Shriners there was convicted of downloading "the Misty series.") - http://st.bit.ly/cMNzpo

Patients in 'vegetative' state can think and communicate
foxyarse

It will raise questions about when doctors should switch off life support machines. It is likely to add to the debate on assisted suicide as the patient could potentially decide and communicate if they wish to carry on living. It comes just weeks after Kay Gilderdale was acquitted of assisting the suicide of her daughter Lynn who the jury accepted had lived a “twilight life” for more than 17 years.

SET | Something new to ponder about the health care reform debate
altaloman
by altaloman  2-3-2010
It has long been common knowledge that the Canadian, British, and other western societies that have government-run health care have a rationing system for advanced critical services like open-heart surgery. Hence, stories like this one surface from time to time about high-profile citizens of these nations who choose to come to the U.S. for advanced medicine, where they probably usually pay out of pocket. All of this gives much fodder to those on the side of stopping any attempts in the USA to implement a similar system here for government-run health care. Quotable BLOGGER BEN SMITH | http://politico.twi.bz/g | "Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams is set to undergo heart surgery this week in the United States. | CBC News confirmed Monday that Williams, 60, left the province earlier in the day and will have surgery later in the week. | The premier's office provided few details, beyond confirming that he would have heart surgery and saying that it was not necessarily

ANOTHER Little-Known Federal Agency Could Shoulder Big Healthcare Responsibility
merrie
by merrie  2-1-2010    1
of which we should be "very afraid:" Why the White House and Democrats' plans to expand the Office of Personnel Management should scare all Americans. The Obama administration seeks to empower a very powerful government agency you have probably never heard of with new and expanded powers that will have a direct consequence on every American if they are successful in their efforts to implement national health care reforms. The Obama White House is also drunk with power and is seeking to expand the powers of government agencies to oversee and act out to affect Americans in ways that this country has never seen before. What is the Office of Personnel and Management and why should you care? The Office of Personnel Management, (OPM), is suppose to be an independent government agency that is charged with managing the civil service system of the federal government. If you are a federal employee then civil service laws, rules and regulations that are managed by ......

Congress’ New Secret Plan to Pass ObamaCare
billpar
by billpar  2-1-2010    1
If that happens, then the game is over and the will of the American people will be ignored again. President Obama declared at the State of the Union, “here’s what I ask Congress, though: Don’t walk away from reform. Not now. Not when we are so close. Let us find a way to come together and finish the job for the American people. Let’s get it done. Let’s get it done.” This is a message from the President to Congressional liberals that he will support their efforts to ram through ObamaCare with all means at their disposal. The President showed his complete disconnect from the feelings of average Americans when he called for Congress to pass his health care proposal that has been rejected by the voters of liberal Massachusetts.
