Gorilla grieves over death of her baby
swampfoxz
by swampfoxz Yesterday 8:26 PM
The death of Claudio is a double tragedy for Gana; for reasons unknown to scientists, she rejected her six week old daughter Mary Zwo last year. She was moved to a zoo in Stuttgart where she is healthy and one of the star attractions. By Monday morning the zoo keepers were still unable to get to the body of Claudio, so fiercely is Gana guarding him. "In the wild a gorilla mother can keep hold of a dead baby for weeks," added Herr Adler. "We will carry out an autopsy on the body when we can.

e-bullion James Fayed enters not guilty plea in money
tdsmum
by tdsmum 8-18-2008
Well that's that for today. A not guilty plea was entered by James Fayed and he was refused bail They would naturally have seen him as a flight risk After all James Fayed is the estranged husband of Pamela Fayed who was stabbed to death in a Century City parking garage on July 28th. No one has been charged in relation to that murder yet. There are reports Pamela Fayed's slaying happened straight after leaving a meeting with her husband and his attorneys. I've also read in some news items that she was helping the FBI in some way prior to her murder. The federal trial is scheduled to start some time in Sept 08 Meanwhile all over the globe e-bullion members continue to wait to hear any sort of update, from any source on what the hell is happening with the company itself. Longest 4 hours maintenance I've ever seen. Especially when account holders are hit with this image and message day after day. http://www.e-bullion.com http://www.e-bullion.

Politics as Tarot cards
fudomyoo
by fudomyoo 7-29-2008
"One notes that it would be tempting to put the Republican Nominee on this list at a couple of places, but one fears that the Secret Service has little understanding of the esoteric meanings of certain cards and even less of a sense of humour in these matters. This is their job, and it’s ok. I recognise that this list could easily be written from the other side of the aisle with a lot of changes save I doubt Mr McCain would fit in the “Fool” slot."

PLATO: Antarctica's Robot Observatory
bloowell
by bloowell 7-28-2008
Located at the highest point on the southern continent the observatory is in an ideal position to search several star clusters for planets, plot quietly without any fear of meddling humans, and make periodic reports like "There is NO robotic death fleet en route to Earth, please go about your eating and procreating and other things that make you inferior to the perfect machine intellect". Solar panels will power the systems for the bulk of the year, with a minor reserve of four thousand liters of jet fuel to power diesel generators in winter. Some might not be scared of an isolated science listening post, but those not worried by a seven ton metal robot with a thousand gallons of high-octane flammability to play with will be the first to fall when the revolution comes.

Me And My Girls
debbyski
by debbyski 7-20-2008 3
"But was it really all thus? When memory is called to answer, it often answers back with deception. How is it that almost every warm bar stool contains a hero, a star of his own epic, who is the sum of his amazing stories? If I said I was a fat thug who beat up women and sold bad coke, would you like my story? What if instead I wrote that I was a recovered addict who obtained sole custody of my twin girls, got us off welfare and raised them by myself, even though I had a little touch of cancer? Now we’re talking. Both are equally true, but as a member of a self-interpreting species, one that fights to keep disharmony at a remove, I’m inclined to mention my tenderhearted attentions as a single parent before I get around to the fact that I hit their mother when we were together. We tell ourselves that we lie to protect others, but the self usually comes out looking damn good in the process. "

Frank Buck - Bring 'em Back Alive

Buck was a man of his era... Hard drinking, hard living, self-made entrepreneur and showman extraordinaire. Buck's fame led to an entire occupation by circus workers today - wild animal tamer. Never a man to turn down a "buck," Buck was a shameless self-promoter and claimed to have even tracked down a Yeti once.

Where Does He Get All These Wondeful Steampunk Toys??
revenantdm
by revenantdm 7-13-2008
I admit to being rather fond (actually, enamored) with the entire Steampunk Genre. I am a fan of many of the stylings that have come from one pop culture type to another... Junk stores are doing booming business these days as people hit them up for old brass fittings, watches, horns and other things to modify and adapt. We went through a similar phase with Star Wars and other Sci-Fi things in the 70a and they returned in the last decade. Super Heroes were big merchandise money makers during the WW II years, the mid 60s, and then again the late 80s with the birth of the Batman craze following the campy antics of the 60s and the dark, Gothic feel of the movie series. Super Heroes came back in a big way with X-Men. This is what I have always heard that popular culture repeats itself every generation or so... Hold on to those Slinkys, Hula Hoops, and Slip n' Slide: we may be in for a wild ride again!

Lavena Johnson: murdered by her fellow soldiers, covered up by the army
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey 6-30-2008
The take home lesson is that people will pay more attention to the cover-up of the killing of a white, male football star by his fellow soldiers more than they will a black, female soldier who gets raped, killed, and mutilaed by her fellow soldiers. This is is bad shit. We're talking Titus Andronicus bad. And the Army calls it a suicide. America, FUCK YEAH!

8 Fictional Characters Who Died Too Early
revenantdm
by revenantdm 6-11-2008
Well, I can not say I agree with the list all in total (Segal was not a big loss and a Video Game Character???) but overall, a well-reasoned list. A few key actors or roles I would have considered: Powers Booth in Red Dawn Orrie Main (Patrick Swazey) in North & South: Book III Laurence J. Fishbun in Deep Blue Christian Slater (no, not David Arquette) in 3000 Miles to Graceland Drew Barrymore in Scream Joker (jack Nicholson) not too early in the movie but in the series! George C. Scott in Taps. Morgan Freeman in The Sum of All Fears... Just a few off the top of my head and I am sure we all can think of others but this is a wonderful site for lists and this one (other than foe the inclusion of a video game) is a good list.
