POPSCash for Clubbers The golf-cart boom has followed an IRS ruling that golf carts qualify for the electric-car credit as long as they are also road worthy. These qualifying golf carts are essentially the same as normal golf carts save for adding some safety features, such as side and rearview mirrors and three-point seat belts. They typically can go 15 to 25 miles per hour. In South Carolina, sales of these carts have been soaring as dealerships alert customers to Uncle Sam's giveaway. "The Golf Cart Man" in the Villages of Lady Lake, Florida is running a banner online ad that declares: "GET A FREE GOLF CART. Or make $2,000 doing absolutely nothing!"

POPSA Brief History of White House Thuggery
"Keep up the heat" translated into Organizing for America/Democratic National Committee attack ads on moderate Democrats who have revolted against Obamacare's high costs and expansive government powers over medical decisions. Looks like there won't be a health care beer summit anytime soon. The CBO and the Blue Dogs got off easy compared to inspectors general targeted by Team Obama goons. Former AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin was slimed as mentally incompetent ("confused" and "disoriented") after blowing the whistle on several cases of community service tax fraud, including the case of Obama crony Kevin Johnson. Johnson is the NBA star turned Sacramento mayor who ran a federally funded nonprofit group employing AmeriCorps volunteers, who were exploited to perform campaign work for Johnson and to provide personal services (car washes, errands) to Johnson and his staff. Walpin filed suit last week to get his job back -- and to defend the integrity and independence

POPSDoes Bailout Come with a Company Car? As a major shareholder in the newly formed Government Motors I demand to know when I can pick up my company car. Could someone tell me which of the dealerships still in business are taking requests for company cars? Now that I am the majority stock holder in the company I would like to have as one of my perks a nice new company car and not one of them HYBRIDS either. I want one of those big old gas guzzlers that the President drives. If Ms Pelosi can fly around in a company jet, and the President can drive around in his fleet of SUV's then AS A MAJOR SHAREHOLDER IN GOVERNMENT motors SO CAN I. Please make delivery of my new company car to the address you have on file in my Share HOLDERS portfolio. THANK YOU.

POPSGM Partnership With E-bay In The Works
Tom Pyden, vice president for communications at G.M., explained that the companies had been in long-term discussions and that a partnership was in the works. He emphasized that G.M. dealers, not the company itself, would list new cars on eBay. “We will not be selling directly to customers,” he said. “We are looking for ways to make it easier for customers to shop and buy our products on their time, on their terms.” G.M. said the test with eBay would let customers either buy new cars at auction or at a fixed price using eBay’s “Buy It Now” option. But it is unclear whether that fixed price would differ from the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, and how G.M. would react if auction prices were well below that price. One G.M. dealer said he had already talked with the company about the program and was excited about it. The dealer, Inder Dosanjh, who owns Dublin Chevrolet outside San Francisco, said listing new cars on eBay would allow his dealership to get

POPSShocker: Dems Tell Obama To Let the Market Decide Dealership Closures So not only do they suddenly and fervently embrace the free market and question the wisdom of raising the unemployment rate by closing the dealerships, they seem to actually care about Obama's running roughshod over Constitutional property rights. However, we are concerned that manufacturers are closing profitable dealerships to circumvent current contracts which could require expensive buy-outs under normal conditions. Now that sounds like a letter written by Newt Gingrich, Steve Forbes, or any one of those greedy capitalist pigs on our side of the aisle. Is the tide turning against Obama on this, or are these spineless wonders, who didn't step in to prevent this takeover in the first place, trying to get to the head of the line for pickings from the carcasses?

POPS Patterns of Force * The language used in the announcement has creepy echoes of every rationalization used by the government to take away human rights (free speech in this case.) These are “extraordinary circumstances,” and for the good of the nation, we can’t allow any speech that would threaten economic recovery; it’s like when the Iranian mullahs shut down the opposition press, or Hugo Chavez shut down the only remaining opposition television station. (And the American left cheered!) And we are only four months into this Chicago thug’s regime. What more is to come?

POPSChrysler And GM CEOs Summoned To Washington To Testify They said the executives must address what happens to the closing dealers' inventories of vehicles and parts, along with the companies' efforts to minimize job losses and provide consumers with details about warranties and future service needs. The committee plans to hold a hearing June 2 on the dealer closures, Hutchison said Thursday. via http://directorblue.blogspot.com/

POPSAre Republican car dealers getting picked on? Well, no, despite what you may have read in the right-wing blogs. The % of shuttered dealers who are Republicans is the same as the % of still-open dealers who are Republicans. Fact is, a lot of car dealers are Republicans.

POPSDealergate: 40 Democrat-Friendly Dealerships Become 42 After The Dust Settles; Their Competition Gut
advise her husband on who to protect and who to punish. Democratic donor Sidney Deboer is Chairman of Lithia Motors. He donated over $14,000 to Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). Lithia Motors lost only two of its 29 dealerships while gaining as many as five additional ones in the resulting carnage. A quick review of the Dealmaker Auto Group reveals the following, uhm, issues: * Watertown Daily Times: HSBC: dealer owes $10.2m: Lender says DealMaker Auto Group defaulted on loans, notes from 2006... A commercial lender is seeking a $10.2 million judgment against DealMaker Auto Group, claiming that the car dealership defaulted on a series of loans and notes provided in 2006. Watertown Daily Times: DealMaker implements companywide procedural training: In the wake of an investigation by the state attorney general that cost the company $2 million in payments, DealMaker Auto Group has begun an aggressive training campaign . . . .

POPSDealergate: Stats Demonstrate That Chrysler Dealers . . . . . Likely Shuttered On A Partisan Basis Smith reports that Lithia will likely have a net gain of three new dealers after the dust settles (they lose just two and may gain five). Debeor has donated nearly $15,000 to two Democrat candidates and approximately $8,250 to four GOP individuals. What are the Odds? All other factors being equal, what are the odds that RLJ's dealerships would remain open while all other area dealerships would What are the odds of all of these RLJ dealerships remaining open while their competitors are wiped out? Maybe 1/10,000,000 of 1%. Yes, that's one ten-millionth of one percent. Approximately the odds that I'll win American Idol. Or that you'll land two frisbees, simultaneously, on each of Barack Obama's teleprompters during one of his televised speeches. Hello, mainstream media: anyone listening? How about you, class-action lawyers?

POPSOne Chrysler Dealer Who's Not Taking His Shutdown Without Setting Record Straight FItzgerald is smart, articulate, critical and offers advice to the "failed management" at both Chrysler and GM. Well worth a look and listen. Fitzgerald says he's bugged automakers to improve their consumer ratings for 20 years and, according to the Washington Times, has letters from former GM CEO Rick Wagoner and former DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche to prove it. Here's what Zetsche wrote to Fitzgerald in 2001: "We're putting a lot of effort into increasing the reliability and quality of our vehicles, which we're expecting will result in ... even more favorable ratings from Consumer Reports." In the magazine's April issue, which includes rankings of 2009 models, Chrysler was the lowest-rated automaker. GM was second lowest.
