POPSNeed an Ask and Tell Policy Regarding Jihadists
Also obvious now is the fact that political correctness has run so amok that a jackass jihadist in our armed forces can spew his anti-American babble, blog about killing us, set red flags off all over the psychological place, and no one holds him down and scrapes his frontal lobe with a cement trowel. Once again, going PC gets people killed. To heck with being PC with people who want us dead; our playing the nice guy with this goon’s right to be a murderous idiot got our beloved soldiers butchered. Allow me to go back to these little Saladins and their normative murderous targets, por favor. Who are the regular marks for the mighty jihadists? Let’s see … unarmed soldiers, people eating calzones at a Pizza Hut, buses full of little school children, and people flying coach to grandmother’s house. Pathetic. Truly ignoble and pathetic. It seems as if going head-to-head with an American badass is just too, too much for these jihadist jackanapes.

POPSThe Enemy Within Comments on the attack at Fort Hood, is this an example of terrorism or an isolated case? Maybe the tipping point for something altogether more sinister should certain elements use it to their advantage.

POPSThe Ocean Has Issues: 7 Biggest Problems Facing Our Seas, and How to Fix Them "Dead zones are swaths of ocean that don't support life due to a lack of oxygen, and global warming is a prime suspect for what's behind the shifts in ocean behavior that cause dead zones. The number of dead zones is growing at an alarming rate, with over 400 known to exist, and the number is expected to grow. " The use of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture contributes to the growth of dead zones.

POPSEthanol's Thirst Is Growing "This is one more nail in the coffin for ethanol," says David Pimentel of Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY, whose own studies have shown that ethanol requires more energy to produce than it releases when burned, and that the fertilizer used to grow corn for ethanol has contributed significantly to dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico (areas of the ocean with low oxygen content due to increases in chemicals in the water).

POPSFlower turns animal waste into fuel continues: Duckweed, they discovered, has an appetite for animal waste, quickly converting it to leafy starch that can then be converted into ethanol. The current source for most U.S. ethanol is industrial-scale corn farming, which requires large amounts of toxic pesticides and dead zone-feeding, fuel-intensive fertilizers. When the costs are added up, corn-based ethanol may prove little cleaner than gasoline. Duckweed could help solve both problems at once. "We did small-scale tests in the laboratory to convert duckweed starch to ethanol using the same technologies as the fuel industry currently uses in corn," said Cheng. "With the same technology, we can easily convert it."

POPSMcClatchyde: IDF used Gazans as HUMAN SHIELDS "There is powerful evidence that Israel used the tactic that they are accusing Hamas of using," said Fred Abrahams, a Human Rights Watch senior researcher who's investigating what happened in Gaza during the recent Israeli military offensive, which killed more than 1,200 Palestinians. The Abed Rabbo case also is under investigation by the Israeli human-rights group B'Tselem, which led a long campaign that eventually persuaded the Israeli Supreme Court to order the Israeli military in 2005 to stop using Palestinians as human shields. "The testimony seems pretty extensive and presents grave suspicions that Israeli soldiers forced Palestinians to perform dangerous tasks," said B'Tselem spokeswoman Sarit Michaeli. "And the fact that we're seeing these allegations on such a wide scale leads us to suspect that this was policy and not the decisions of one or two random soldiers."

POPSOcean Dead Zones I don't know what scares me more! The Ocean Dead Zones or the fact nobody seems to care.

POPSDead Zone in Global Oceans Growing About ten years ago, researchers found that there was a 70 mile dead zone where the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleans. At the same time, they found that the delta that helped protect New Orleans from a Katrina level hurricane was also dying. The Mississippi drains 2/3s of the fresh water in the USA. Think about it and vote for someone who can say more than "Drill, Baby Drill and Drill Now!"

POPSOceans are Dying Dead Oceanic Regions are on the increase. Fertilizers and Run-Off pollution from the air and rain major culprits.
5
POPSOceans running low on oxygen These dead zones occur when fertilizer runoff dumps excess nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorous, into coastal waters, providing food for algae. When these microscopic plants die and sink to the ocean bottom, bacteria feed on them and subsequently consume all the oxygen dissolved in the water. This leaves fish and other bottom-dwelling sea creatures without enough oxygen to survive, causing mass die-offs and displacements. Typically, the researchers noted, these events aren't noticed until they threaten valuable fish stocks.

POPSRevoke EPA’s Licenses to Pollute Behind the veil of “clean skies,” however, smog and soot and very small toxic particulate matter are still pouring out of the pipes of cars, trucks, the containerized shipping industry that drives global commerce, airplanes, incinerators, large farms and factories. These microscopic particles cause inflammation and injury to the lungs and the blood, killing thousands and condemning many more to life with asthma. Runoff from agribusiness, industry and suburban trophy lawns still flows through our (non-burning) rivers, creating dead zones off our shores and sickening swimmers on our beaches. This is happening because industries have become experts at delaying and manipulating the work of EPA through political pressure and legal tactics. And EPA analysts cut and paste corporate-generated studies and analysis into their findings. As a result, the EPA often acts as if it were protecting the earnings of regulated industries rather than the public’s health.

POPS'Cut not sink' emissions says expert
Many things as our history has shown can't be, and should not be tested while being put into practice. A quick study of our history of DIY efforts shows us that. We still have trouble learning the hard way. I have trouble imagining many of our solutions doing more than taking a system that is unbalanced and making it more unbalanced. Many a persons famous last words have been 'this time it will be different.- and better'. Which can be clearly stupid, and the reason they are last words. We certainly need to give nature more credit and respect t that we are. It has its own means of self correction. We can work out how to work according to the principles of nature, rather than our own vanity, or we'll be corrected out of existence. Still, a new thread could start 'Homo Novalis' but it doesn't take very many individuals to establish the start of a new line. the rest of us may soon be obsolete. (soon in evolutionary time) and a subject in achaeology classes. Existential aversion therapy

POPSFund Health Care, Not War # "Until we remove the motive of profit from the financing of health care, we cannot and we will not resolve our current health care crisis." # "Any group that proposes reform policy that maintains the use of for-profit insurance companies in a so-called free market is being driven by one single motive -- to protect the golden coffers of their share of the $2 trillion cash cow!"

POPSFirst British woman killed in Afghanistan With several friends with daughters in the War Zones I will temper my reaction. The situation in Afghanistan will get worse and more families will grieve. I sincerely sympathise with these bereaved families and hope that their families are strong enough to withstand this awful onslaught. If we are fighting terrorism and the scourge of heroin abuse, why are the likes of Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss not charged with/ as accomplices to the soldiers murders? Do these self indulgent personalities not realise that their addictions are costing decent people their lives - and they do not take their evil drugs.

POPSMarine's Simple Act Of Kindness To Save An Abused, Injured Dog He couldn't take the dog with him and watched as it tried to follow the Humvees away from the border. Two days later, while Dennis and a comrade were working on a Humvee, he looked up and saw the dog staring at him. "Somehow that crazy damned dog tracked us," he wrote Jan. 9. But the reunion was short lived. Military policy prohibits having pets in war zones, and Dennis was given four days to get the dog off the base or kill him. The decision was easy: Nubs was going to San Diego. The logistics, though, were anything but easy. With help from his Iraqi interpreter, Dennis managed to find a Jordanian veterinarian to get the care and paperwork needed to get it to the states. He also negotiated the red tape to get the dog across the border into Jordan. His family and close friends helped raise the $3,500 needed to get the dog from Amman, Jordan, to San Diego, said his mother, Marsha Cargo.

POPSUN Says World Fisheries Face Collapse “We are getting more and more alarming signals of dramatic changes in the oceans. The recovery from the changes we’re making will probably take a million years.” The report found the most affected areas included those responsible for half the world’s fish catch. A slowing of ocean currents as a result of climate change may over the next 100 years interrupt the transport of nutrients to the most valuable coastal fishing zones, and the flushing away of pollution. In other impacts, Nellemann said he expected more than 50 percent of coral reefs to die by 2050 as a result of rising temperatures, with resulting impacts on tourism. Carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels create an acid when dissolved in water, and could over the coming decades make the sea more acidic than at any time in the past 65 million years, and by 2100 could prevent mollusks in some seas from forming shells.

POPSOver 400 Coastal Zones Are Dying Like carbon, the nitrogen cycle is all out of whack. The Chesapeake Bay and Gulf of Mexico are two examples close to home of systems whose dead zones are well documented, but not greatly improved, even despite millions of taxpayer dollars being spent on the problem. The Red dots are the Hypoxic Areas (short of oxygen) and the Yellow dots are the Areas of Concern (at risk of becoming hypoxic)
