POPSThe Return of the Golden Rule Sports commentator Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder was fired decades ago for some stupid comments about race. There is no outcry for a public apology from Ms. Duke. I personally don’t care for Joan Rivers, Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid but if you are going to be in the public eye as both David Feherty and Annie Duke are don’t wish someone dead. Especially when that wish is going to find its way into the public conscious via some reporter looking for something to write. The apparent lack of public outcry against these wishes for the deaths of these people, indicates that the general public either agrees with them or has become desensitized to wishing death on celebrities and politicians. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but when a representative of a news organization, Feherty works for CBS, is allowed to vocalize his death fantasy, even as a joke, they are promoting a double standard. School children have been chastised for doing the same thing.

POPSDead Famous: 18th Century Obituaries Sparked Modern Cult Of Celebrity The Gentleman’s Magazine in 1789 gave an account of the life of Isaac Tarrat, a man known to hire himself out to impersonate a doctor and tell fortunes in a fur cap, a large white beard and a worn damask night gown. Another subject, Peter Marsh of Dublin, was made famous by his convictions about his own death in 1740. After being hit by a mad horse which died soon after, Mr Marsh convinced himself that he would also go mad and die. The Gentleman’s Magazine reported that he duly died “of a conceit that he was mad”. Fascinating !!!

POPSThe Daily Show vs. Blovation Fest 2008! I've been watching the Daily Show since its first episode, and I started taking it serriously when Jon upped the IQ quotient by replacing Craig Killborne. Now the show pretty much only does indie film makers, political wonks, and third world presidents. How cool is that? The only people who do more serious interviews are Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers, and actually, Bill Moyers described Jon as "The Mark Twain of our time." But why did I clip? for the "Blovation Fest" Quote, which by the way, will be the festival of avant garde noise-punk music I attempt to put on this fall. ;)
