POPSHardcore PC Slides All Its Components Into Oil. Heat shortens the life of all electronics; neglecting the messy dust clogged cleanings results in over-heating and death of expensive components. This danger could become thing of the past. Opening the world of over-clocking with no danger of overheating, this oil tanker approach is a definite win, win situation.

POPSDangers of "Group Think" Evident in March to War These are characteristics of most all groups, especially highly charged political parties which are easily recognized here. Note the silence of individuals plays a key role in conformity. Speak up! Collective Rationalization reminds me of the "group think" that led America to war against Iraq (per the neoconservatives preconceived plans), even though it did not harbor terrorists or attack the U.S., just because Bush and Cheney, after 9/11, said so. This same "group think" is within the entire story of 9/11 and the Collective Rationalization for a continued "war on terrorism" to invade other countries at will. GROUP THINK MUST BE CHALLENGED TO PREVENT UNJUST WARS. Number 8 (did not have room to clip) is here: Mindguards: Some members appoint themselves to the role of protecting the group from adverse information that might threaten group complacency.

POPSGanga's story She was sold into sexual slavery and once she escaped her family rejected her because she was a prostitute. I have no words for my anger here. Where would she be now if Shared Hope had not found her? Most likely dead, and unmourned.

POPSParalysed Palestinian girl fights for Life "Maria cannot have her mother, brother or grandmother back, she cannot have her body, but there are things we can do to make things better and this is to take care of her for all of her life because she cannot survive outside Israel," Adi Lustigman, her lawyer said. "She needs to live near the hospital, she must be near the emergency room -- things she cannot have in the West Bank" Upset at what he described as foot dragging, Maria's father said he believed the court did not want to set a precedent that would encourage other Palestinians hurt in Israeli attacks to seek long-term medical treatment in Israel. The Defence Ministry maintains that Israeli law does not require the army to compensate Palestinians injured in fighting against militants in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

POPSGlobal Warming? Yep, even spies say it's true! Richard Engel, deputy national intelligence officer for science and technology ... said in a little-noticed speech last month at the University of Delaware that if the findings of the assessment were made public, “It would frustrate the execution of U.S. foreign policy.”

POPSArmed Robots Still In Iraq Good to hear. As a colleague recently pointed out, we need even more high tech weaponry sent to Iraq. The day we deploy giant walking robots with 50-foot swords into Basra, this war is over.

POPSThe Myth Of The Victimless Crime "Whether the woman is in a hotel room or on a side street in someone’s car, whether she’s trafficked from New York to Washington or from Mexico to Florida or from the city to the suburbs, the experience of being prostituted causes her immense psychological and physical harm. And it all starts with the buyer."

POPSThe battle for free speech rages in Canada Article: "Free Dominion was served with a human rights complaint last summer which was later dropped. Currently, we are in the midst of one defamation suit initiated by Richard Warman, and we have been served notice of another suit by Warman, as well as notice of a joint suit by Warman and Warren Kinsella. Ezra Levant is fighting a human rights complaint before the Alberta Human Rights Commission, and he has been served with notice of a defamation suit from Richard Warman. Mark Steyn is fighting several human rights complaints, and he is suffering almost daily abuse on Warren Kinsella’s blog. The most vocal writers who have been fighting the human rights commissions have been threatened with lawsuits and worse. Blogger Mike Brock even received an email that read, “I hope that type of sentiment comforts you the day you find yourself staring down the barrel of a 12 gauge shotgun, Mike.”

POPSHappy Blogiversary Danger Room I have nearly 300 blog feeds in Google Reader, but I don't read all of them every day. I do read about 75 a day though, and one of those blogs that I read every update from is WIRED magazine's Danger Room blog who are celebrating their first anniversary as of yesterday. Danger Room is one of the best resources on the web for the latest news from the national security war biz and our burgeoning police state. The coverage there is non partisan, just the facts style coverage of the personalities, events, developments and goings on of the Defense Department and Homeland Security establishments. Happy Blogiversary to Noah Schactman and his cohorts for bringing us a fantastic resource.

POPSEnter The Thought Police "The director of the ACLU's Washington legislative office, Caroline Fredrickson, said in a statement on the bill, "Law enforcement should focus on action, not thought. We need to worry about the people who are committing crimes rather than those who harbor beliefs that the government may consider to be extreme. Once a terrorist is defined by thought and word rather than deed, there will be room for all of us in the big tent."

POPSFBI threatens to sic Egyptian government on suspect's family After 9/11, an Egyptian student in the US was picked up by the FBI, which mistakenly thought he owned an aviation transceiver found in a hotel room. When the FBI interrogated him, agents threatened to make sure Egyptian security "gives family hell." Higazy confessed to owning the transceiver (but later an airline pilot admitted it was his). This information was contained in a court decision letting Higazy's lawsuit against the FBI proceed. Subsequently, the court removed this decision from its website and replaced it with a redacted version...which removed the information about the FBI threats! Unfortunately, the US news media (Washingon Post, New York Times) have failed to cover this aspect of the story.

POPSArmed robots patrol Iraq One commenter said : "Wow, this is really a low point in the honor and integrity of our armed forces. The more we remove ourselves from the moral responsibility of taking human life, the more we will be willing to take it without regar to the consequences" That already happens, its called "collateral damage" and you are blind if you don't recognize the extent of it now. What that commenter wants is honorable arena style fighting with respect and glory. That is romanticism, not war.
