POPSA Stunt Cyclist Takes the Stage Although this is apparently one of the most watched sports videos on Youtube, I hadn't seen it until tonight when I read this article. Most of us will never be able to do the stunts and tricks this guy can do ... but hopefully he can still inspire us to try and do great things. And most importantly ... the video has over 50,000 votes and it's still rated 5 stars. He can do some pretty cool stuff with a bike. Enjoy!

POPSCyclists are not a menace More: You might say that even if we’re not a menace to other vehicles, we’re a menace to pedestrians. But again the figures don’t stand that up. Cyclists make up about 1 per cent of the traffic in London, and they also cause 1 per cent of the traffic injuries to pedestrians – almost exactly in proportion with their numbers. The injuries they cause are also, as you’d expect, disproportionately at the lower end of the scale. The fact is that only a minority of cyclists indulge in the arrogant behaviour towards pedestrians which gets us a bad name. I would have no problem with a motion that says some cyclists are a menace. But tarring us all with the brush of a minority would be like supporting a motion that says Muslims are a menace. It would be outrageous.”

POPSAustin burn injury lawyer The public is prejudiced against motorcycles — other drivers often fail to see them or drive in a manner that subjects cyclists to harm. The result of collisions with motorcycles is often fatality, spinal cord injury, or traumatic brain injury, and often requires the services of a motorcycle accident attorney or a burn injury lawyer.

POPSLooking at the math behind "53 miles per burrito" More: Of course, a burrito comes with sales taxes, which pay for another fraction of that road. And the margin on a burrito is much higher than on gasoline - that margin then becomes profit for the owner and wages for the workers, all of which are taxable and turn into another fraction of that road I am freeloading on. Beyond the margin for the taqueria, money is made by people who grow and sell food, which is ostensibly a nobler pursuit than drilling, baby, drilling. But the real bottom line? It's not really 53 miles per burrito. It's one burrito per 53 miles. If you are sitting in your car, you will be shortly sitting on that burrito as it becomes a permanent part of your ass. I meanwhile will be adding extra guacamole because after I rode 53 miles to work, I ride 7 miles back to Caltrain on the way home. Yum. Guacamole, anyone? :-D

POPSSafe City Parking for Commuter Bikes - Covina, Calif. Neat idea and to be tried out in my hometown where cars had been king in cheap gas eras but now has bike riders and access again to commuter rail. Grin - there was commuter rail in the late 1940s and early 1950s that went bust when freeways and 15 cent a galon gas killed them.

POPSMonkeyLectric LED bike wheel lights WANT ONE!!! This would add SO much peace of mind in terms of knowing that the often-oblivious car drivers around me would be able to see me better. Plus it's hella cool. :-D

POPSIs bicycling safer than driving? On this forum, a participant misuses statistics to show that bicycling is safer than driving. These statistics do not prove anything about the inherent safety of either mode of transportation. (the first comment is a sarcastic response by an anti-bicyclist commenting on a Philadelphia bicyclist who got critically injured by a car on a busy intersection).

POPSG20 2009: Police Attack Students at University of Pittsburgh The campus was invaded by armored police officers. They threw actual tear gas into crowds of students. They SHOT students with rubber bullets. They beat slower-moving students with a baton. I saw a group of cyclists being herded down the sidewalk. A cop reached out and pushed a woman on a bike. She turned around and pushed her bike at the cop. Next thing we knew, he grabbed her by the face and slammed her down on the concrete.'

POPSNYC Bike helmets I like how you can lock the shell to your bike frame. The helmets actually look pretty trendy, and the small peak on the soft attachment is a nice idea to keep rain from running off the helmet onto your face!

POPSSome Advice on Biking to Work These are some pretty good comments about commuters and biking to work. I would agree with most of these. I would also hope you are able to have a shower at work once you get there. OR, at least give yourself about 15 minutes to sit and cool off before you start your shift. And Christy has suggested have some alcohol wipes to clean your body. The alcohol acts as a coolant as it evaporates on your skin, and the wipes will help you clean up - in case you get a bit 'ripe' from the ride. This article is definitely a good read.
