Dems cut Medicare Home Health Services to fund uninsured
jatfla
by jatfla  12-7-2009
This will definitely effect me and my household. For 20+ yrs. I have cared for my elderly family members. With my MIL she could afford to have someone come in and help me and sit with her while I ran errands or took a break. She had Home Health Care aids from the hospital (paid partially by Medicare) come several times to check on her and help with bed sores. My Dad had to be in a nursing home and Medicare helped. My Mom is now with me and I depend on the CNA's and Eldercare Services to help me with bathing. The beds, wheelchairs, etc....were affordable with the Medicare coverage. My Mom will also lose her Medicare Advantage. So...what are we to do with our elderly? If Mr. Baucus' mother is receiving benefits from Medicare and other government services, then shame on him. On their salaries, surely they can afford to take care of their own parents.

Ending death penalty could save US millions
Lexica
by Lexica  10-20-2009    1
More: Dieter says that keeping execution while reducing its costs is not realistic. If less money is spent on appeals, he argues, the risk of executing an innocent person will increase. He said that ultimately, execution does not deter crime as its supporters hope. Capital punishment has been abolished in most western democracies, and after it was eliminated in the US state of New Jersey in 2007, the state saw its murder rate decline. Dieter cites a poll of 500 local police chiefs, which was paid for by the DPIC and released on Tuesday, showing support for ending capital punishment. The survey found that the police chiefs see the death penalty as the least effective tool in deterring crime. They suggest more efficient use of resources -- such as boosting funding for drug and alcohol abuse programs.

Compromising Paycuts With Online Payday Loans
ronald25
by ronald25  10-10-2009
The world wide prevailing recession has forced many Britons to taste the sour taste of pay cuts, whether they are the oil rig workers or the executives. The effects of recession is making continuous marks on several economies of the world, even the economies of the developed nations like US, UK, Canada etc are suffering hard due to this. Still, the situation of cutbacks in payment is far better than the rising unemployment in the country. Thus, people facing troubles in their daily life due to pay cuts can fulfil their financial deficiencies with the help of online payday loans as these loans come as a real supporter during your crisis time.

Execs still get raises as UC cuts staffing, pay
Lexica
by Lexica  8-7-2009
More: "These are outrageous actions, taken at the same time as UC has been pleading poverty, giving layoff notices, forcing staff and faculty to take furloughs and hinting at more student fee increases," said library assistant Kathy Renfro, chairwoman of the UC Berkeley Labor Coalition. The next time our union calls for a picket, I am SO there.

Deferred spending makes increased spending necessary in the future. That is one reason why the decline is irreversible. Another is all those ex-government employees without a job. California will become more like Mexico in many more ways than the increase in the number of Spanish speaking people.

Is this what he promised?
sillysam
by sillysam  3-12-2009    3
“Although my new spending proposals may raise the federal deficit in my first year to $1.75 trillion, I promise the American people that by the end of my first term, I will halve the federal deficit — albeit adding another $3 to $5 trillion to the national debt. “Those savings can be accomplished by upping the federal income tax to about 40 percent on those rich 5 percent of Americans who currently pay only 60 percent of our aggregate income taxes — as well as lifting Social Security caps on their payroll taxes and cutting out many of their tax deductions. “With state income taxes, federal income tax, and Social Security and payroll taxes, along with new cutbacks in deductions, some of these rich will pay over 60 percent of their incomes in taxes. That is not an unreasonable rate in comparison with past levels — or the fact that well over 40 percent of Americans do not make enough to pay any federal income taxes.
