POPSDesert danger forces Australian outback shutdown Been there, done that and had no desire to do it ever again. We reached Delhousie Hot Springs and the hot springs were refreshing. Next morning too hot. Bodies had cooled down, I suppose. Gold miners walked through this country as part of the 500 mile trip from the railhead to Arltunga, west of Alice Springs. Some didn't make it. Those going back due to illness either died or were fit by the time they reached the Oodnadatta "hospital", where a midwife waited.

POPSExpedited Trials of Illegal Immigrants Questioned Homeland Security and Justice Department officials credit the new aggressive tactics with deterring border crossings. Republicans on the Judiciary Committee accused Democrats of caring more about illegal immigrants than the American workers whose jobs they take. POPS10 Most Beautiful Bridges in the World >>We’ve come a long way in bridge building since crossing a river on a fallen log. The first bridges were built with wooden planks, ropes and stones. Soon, stronger material were required. Wood and stone bridges gave way to iron, then to steel ones. Bridge building techniques also evolved: beam, cantilevered, cable-stayed, and suspension bridges - each with advantages that made it the right choice for a particular location. Political fortunes and wars have been made or lost by bridges. Throughout history, bridges had been built by engineers and burned by warriors, and crossed by kings and commoners alike. Millions of people owe their livelihood to bridges, as most require them to commute; and yet thousands of people choose to end their lives by jumping off them every year.<<

POPSIsrael's Gaza Blockade is "Collective Punishment" This situation is frustrating and insane. Collective punishment is illegal under all international law, and yet whenever anyone confronts the Israeli government with this fact, they are accused of being anti-Israel and/or an anti-Semite. As a Jew, I am very proud of all Israel has accomplished, and I yearn to see that tiny country live in peace with its neighbours. I do not fault Israel entirely for the situation that exists between them and the Palestinians. There is much fault and provocation to be found on both sides. While it is true that Hamas attacks Israeli towns with rockets, which must be stopped, there are constant attacks against Palestinians by Jewish settlers. And the story goes on and on. But collectively punishing an entire nation of people because of the actions of a few is quite simply, inhumane, and the world should condemn these actions by the Israeli government.

POPSGaza goes dark. Food supplies limited. Gads: Collective punishment. Apartheid. The slow starvation of over a million people right in front of our eyes. And Bush just returned from Israel last week, with all the bull*hit words of yada yada blagh blagh peace bull*shit they've been feeding us for decades. The elections can come soon enough. Sorry Gaza. Really sorry.
