POPSNeo-Gothic Châteaux Near Yalta Something inherently romantic speaks to our hearts when we see a castle looking out to the sea, from a high cliff among imposing coastal mountains. If you remove the hustle of a resort town around it, the place becomes infused with fantasy and magic, especially in the glow of a setting sun. (The Swallow's Nest, read Wiki's article) is located close to Yalta and has been closed to general public after surviving a large earthquake in 1927 (the cliff has developed a crack beneath it). However in recent years it's been fully restored and now houses an Italian Restaurant. Swallow's Nest was also featured in several Soviet films. It was used as the setting of Desyat Negrityat, the Soviet screen version of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. Swallow's Nest is closer in style to German architectural follies, such as Neuschwanstein, Babelsberg, and Stolzenfels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swallow%27s_Nest_(Crimea)

POPSZinn: 9/11 Truth Has "No Practical Political Significance" Without 9/11 there would be no "War on Terror". Without 9/11 there would be no "clash of civilizations" Without 9/11 there would be no war in Afghanistan. Without 9/11 there would be no war in Iraq. Without 9/11 thousands of U.S. troops would not have been sent to their deaths. Without 9/11 hundreds of thousands of citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan would not have been sentenced to their deaths. Without 9/11 there would be no inaction on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Without 9/11 there would be no civilian contractors in Iraq and the scandal that has followed. Without 9/11 there would be no false military reporting (Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch), and no crack down on the freedom of the press (banning photos of the returning coffins.)

POPSObama Apologizes for Nancy Reagan Joke See? I told you so ... The joke in question: I have spoken to all of them who are living -- I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan moment, doing any seances... Not a big deal, if you ask me. But I called it, so I thought I'd follow up.

POPSButtock cleavage - Fashion Trends In Reverse! n the early 2000s it became fashionable for young women and men to expose their buttocks in this way, often in tandem with low rise jeans. The Cincinnati Enquirer called it the "new cleavage", and expressed views that "It's virtually impossible to find jeans to cover your hipbone". In reaction to this trend, Saturday Night Live aired a parody advertisement for a product called Neutrogena Coin Slot Cream. Low-rise jeans sometimes also resulted in what is often called a whale tail—the appearance of the waistband of a thong or g-string above the waistline of one's pants, creating a shape resembling a whale's tail. British designer Alexander McQueen was particularly mentioned as the originator of buttock cleavage revealing jeans, known as the "bumster", in cultural critique Sheila Jeffreys' Beauty and Misogyny: Harmful Cultural Practices in the West. United States Patent 6473908 registers a design for buttock cleavage revealing trouser designs.

POPSNader's Open Letter to Obama Could it be that in your state Senate record, your U.S. Senate record and your presidential campaign record (favoring nuclear power, coal plants, offshore oil drilling, corporate subsidies including the 1872 Mining Act and avoiding any comprehensive program to crack down on the corporate crime wave and the bloated, wasteful military budget, for example) you have shown that you are their man?

POPSForts Crumble Into Trenches Period photographs of Sumter show what appears to be total destruction. Yet it was in fact an impenetrable redoubt. And we're left with a remarkable example of how technology informs us. Masonry was no protection against the new rifled cannons, but pulverized walls were. Southern ingenuity was alert to that lesson. By war's end the South had reinvented defensive fortifications. The old masonry forts lingered another half century, but they never again played any important role in war.
