POPSA second chance at life, thanks to strangers on a train
More: Mr. Medaglia and Dr. Tolani rode the subway downtown together… He’d missed the 5:13 train and while he was waiting at Penn Station for the 5:59, a woman came up and said, “You did the CPR on that guy, is he really going to live?” “I said I think so,” recalled Mr. Medaglia. “She blew me a kiss. She said, ‘God bless you — you did a great thing.’ I just sat on the train home, thinking, ‘Holy Jesus.’ ” …This was Lieutenant Kelly’s fourth CPR call in 13 years. The three other aideds all died. “Best thing I ever did in my life,” he said… Having gotten a second chance, Mr. Kiernan, a lifelong bachelor, said he is trying to be a better partner to his longtime girlfriend and is trying to eat more carefully, drink less, and seize each day a little more. “I’m not religious,” he said, “but I keep thinking, ‘Who put that cardiologist on the train?’ Coming home tonight, I looked around the subway car — there wasn’t anybody who looked like a cardiologist.”

POPSLittle Boy, 4, Rescued from NYC Fire I often wonder what the person taking the video is thinking as he aims his camera during such dramatic moments. But wonderful moments when you realize the little boy survived because the man acted.

POPS Is Britain's Health-Care System Really That Bad? How does NHS health care compare with U.S. health care? Like most developed countries, Britain ranks above the U.S. in most health measurements. Its citizens have a longer life expectancy and lower infant mortality, and the country has more acute-care hospital beds per capita and fewer deaths related to surgical or medical mishaps. Britain achieves these results while spending proportionally less on health care than the U.S. — about $2,500 per person in Britain, compared with $6,000 in the U.S. For these reasons, the World Health Organization (WHO) ranked Britain 18th in a global league table of health-care systems (the U.S. was ranked 37th). However, there are measures by which the U.S. outperforms Britain: for instance, the U.S. has lower cancer mortality rates.

POPSTeen Saves Toddler From Overturned SUV Sinking in Water But three-year-old Amara Young was not responsive, so Kano started CPR. She quickly started breathing on her own and was eventually transported to Primary Children's Medical Center. Kano says hearing her breathe was one of the best sounds he's ever heard. He says he's no hero and feels blessed to have been in the right place at the right time to help. Kano credits basic life saving skills he learned in Boy Scouts and in a more advanced class he took in high school. FOX 13's Scott McKane has more about the incident.

POPSTop 10 Reasons To Stop Advertising With Glenn Beck Strictly speaking, CPR may not have been called for in #5. He was losing consciousness, not having chest pains. And GB gets points for offering a hand and making sure the guy didn't just smack his melon on the deck. But as someone who has done 1st aid out at Burning Man , trust me... when someone says "I'm passing out", take them at their word. Put an arm around their shoulder and (as GB did in fact do) don't let their melon smack the deck. Still a douchebag, though. ;-)

POPSTwitter campaign to defend NHS against US attacks I just checked and it's not April Fools Day ... I'm amazed Americans are using false information in order to prevent them from receiving health care even after their medical 'insurance' refuses to pay for treatment or cancels their insurance and they are unable to purchase health insurance anywhere. The level of baseless fear -- fed by the American corporate medical system via millions of dollars in commercials and propaganda solely to protect their profit machine -- is well beyond my comprehension.

POPSMJ 'Pleaded For Powerful Sedative' Before Fatal Heart Attack
but deferred a decision on the cause of death, ordering toxicology tests. A second, private autopsy has been requested by the family, over concern about his final hours. Persistent reports claim that Jackson was addicted to painkillers and other prescription medicines. The Jackson family has questioned the role of the singer’s physician, Conrad Murray, who was with him when he collapsed. It took as long as 30 minutes for paramedics to be called after Dr Murray found Jackson with a faint pulse and performed CPR. Lawyers for Dr Murray, who had been treating Jackson for three years and who had recently moved into the rented mansion, have issued a categorical denial that the doctor had administered an injection of Demerol, a narcotic painkiller, to Jackson before his death. Ms Lee, 56, a registered nurse whose specialty includes nutritional counseling, said she received a frantic phone call from Jackson's staff on June 21 that the star needed her.

POPSUnion Attempting To Get Anti-Nationalized Health Care TV Ad Pulled So why is this ad “demonstrably false?” Because it runs contrary to the politics of the SEIU, that’s why. Facts don’t matter, only politics. Though how the SEIU could demonstrate that the ad is false before even seeing it is beyond me. And remember, these same anti-free speech thugs are the same ones telling us that we don’t need secret ballots in the labor organizing process.

POPSBoy, 9, Saves Drowning Three-Year-Old Girl Deputies say Tyler immediately jumped over the homes 4-foot fence to get to the backyard, ran to the ladder of the pool, climbed it, jumped in the water, swam towards Ashley and dragged her back towards the pool's ladder. Tyler's father, Dale Kemmitzer then assisted in pulling the child out of the water. Ashley's mother, Ilea Lyons performed CPR on the child and she regained consciousness. Ashley was subsequently transported to All Children's Hospital for observation and treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Ilea Lyons and her two children, who are from Webster, Florida were in Seminole visiting their friends the Kemmitzers. The investigation continues.

POPSNaked Man Dies After Being Tasered The man's identity has not been released. A video crew at the scene reported that law enforcement officers talking via radio described the man as under the influence of PCP. According to an Amnesty International report in December, 334 people shocked with Tasers by law enforcement died in the U.S. between June 2001 and August 2008. Most of the deaths were attributed to factors such as drug intoxication, however, medical examiners and coroners concluded that Taser shocks caused or contributed to at least 50 of the 334 deaths. California and Florida were the states with the highest numbers of law-enforcement-related Taser deaths during the seven-year period under study -- 55 and 52, respectivel
