The Top 100 Movie Films
merrie
by merrie  Today 4:08 AM
Another film list? The same old Citizen Kane? No - this one’s different Now find a film... So, you’ve scoured The Times Top 100 Films of All Time and have realised, with rising panic, that you’ve seen only five of them. You think Festen is a nasty infection of the toenail and that Deliverance is a posh pizza company. You like Duck Soup, but only in a Chinese restaurant. You’re a cinema dunce! But don’t worry, brushing up on our movie canon needn’t be hard work—after all, the films listed are pretty much guaranteed to have at least some artistic merit, and how often can you say that in the cinema these days?

What Should Uncle Sam Do?
schreibe
by schreibe  Yesterday 12:19 PM    1
I like the sound of the phrase "socialized capitalism"..... Every time someone mentions that there should be more regulation of the greedy corporations, some ditto-head conservative yells "Socialism!". I gues they would rather have "Socialized Capitalism" in which the CEO's of these large corporations get to go home each year with millions of dallars in income, while the rest of us bail out their failed businesses.....nothing but greed and corruption!

NASA had only just started helping US companies with such a ship. Too late. A reflection of the uncertainty of funding due to the Iraq/Afghanistan invasions. Seeing all that money going to greed and corruption must really hurt scientists.

Indian government wins confidence vote... The drama that had unfolded involving the monumental corruption and horse trading of the MPs all across the parties, that were highlighted by the national media before the no-confidence motion, is a monumental shame to the congress-led Govt... The poor common man looks on, feeling furious and frustrated and this is the so-called largest Democracy in the World, my dear Watson!

McCain and Obama Go to Church, as US Gov't Goes to Hell
blueridge
by blueridge  7-21-2008
Not just any church of course, but a Mega-Church. 1. Obama uses Rick Warren as an endorsement to escape his association in public minds with the so-called "reverend" Wright: “looking forward to going back to Saddleback with his good friend Pastor Rick Warren.” Obama spoke at Saddleback in 2006. 2. McCain gets to publicly show that he is not averse to (so-called) Christian political churches, which he has criticized in past. 3. Rick Warren, Mr. Hireling and his "Purpose Driven Church"(merchandisers), gets to increase his publicity and no doubt a huge intake of "tithes and offerings" (and 5013c IRS laws will not prevent, since it is bipartisan) for his corrupt church, which Jesus and the apostles would not recognize any more than a Roman Catholic Mass. All in all, this is theater and corruption, religious and political leaders, like the Pharisees and Herodians getting together (who persecuted apostles, as Jesus warned), but no one dare say so.

Pope Led Cover-up of Child Abuse by Priests
blueridge
by blueridge  7-20-2008    9
This spotlight now after his recent "apology" for sexual abuse by priests that lacked any credibility. The Pope is a liar, like the devil, as history has consistently demonstrated. "By their fruits ye shall know them", Jesus warned of false prophets. Voila! Where is the repentance for his own role in these crimes of protecting the false church (the primary concern) through evasion and cover-up instead of prosecution and removal? Mass-mongering will never erase nor bring forgiveness for these heinous sins from either God or men! This Antichristian cult must be seen for what it is, a religious-political empire claiming "apostolic authority" of wealth and corruption, pomp, priest-craft, and unscriptural ceremonies that Jesus and the apostles never taught, but consistently warned about would come. This is NOT, nor ever was, a true Christian church or faith, but an impostor.

Top McCain Fundraiser Tied to Abramoff
Wisco
by Wisco  7-17-2008
"Mr. Benitez received a fee of $125,000 per month from the taxpayers of Guam, to arrange meetings that the taxpayers of the United States and Guam were already paying his wife to undertake," we're told. The piece goes on: The four-person lobbying team Benitez put together for the Guam account also included two men, David DiStefano and Roy Coffee, who were closely involved at the same time with the now-disgraced Rep. Bob Ney. Ney pleaded guilty in 2006 to corruption charges related to his dealings both with Jack Abramoff and with a shadowy European firm called FN Aviation. DiStefano, a former Ney chief of staff, and Coffee, who had been part of George W. Bush's staff when he was governor of Texas, both worked for FN Aviation in 2003 and also donated generously to Ney's campaign. NYT's " The Caucus " has more...

Obama’s $50 Billion AIDS Bill Up For Vote
merrie
by merrie  7-15-2008    1
However, the United Nations over the years has greatly exaggerated the number of those with HIV/AIDS and it is still difficult to get accurate estimates of the problem. Richard Darling of the FAIR Foundation told AIM on Friday that federal funding for most diseases is being cut back while spending on AIDS is continuing to rise. fairfoundation.org/ On Friday, the Senate voted 65-3 to proceed to floor action on the bill, with many members absent or not voting. Those voting to invoke cloture and proceed included Senate Republican Leader McConnell. However, this does not mean that all of those voting to bring the bill to the Senate floor will support it when a final vote on the actual legislation is taken. Some lawmakers have been intimidated by AIDS activists coming to Washington to deliver funeral wreaths to those standing in the way of the passage of the legislation. Opponents of the bill have been labeled as “Global AIDS Super villains” by the homosexual lobby.

The piece goes on: The Times reports, “The revelation confirms long-held suspicions that favours are being offered in return for donations to the libraries which outgoing presidents set up to house their archives and safeguard their political legacies.” Bush loyalists previously said they had “identified wealthy heiresses, Arab nations and captains of industry as potential ‘mega’ donors” to the Bush library. Says Carpetbagger's Steve Benen , " his kind of corruption is striking, even by the Bush administration’s standards."

The Real-Life '24'
debbyski

"We are once again distracted and unprepared while the Taliban and bin Laden’s minions multiply in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This, no less than the defiling of the Constitution, is the legacy of an administration that not merely rationalized the immorality of torture but shackled our national security to the absurdity that torture could easily fix the terrorist threat. That’s why the Bush White House’s corruption in the end surpasses Nixon’s. We can no longer take cold comfort in the Watergate maxim that the cover-up was worse than the crime. This time the crime is worse than the cover-up, and the punishment could rain down on us all."
