Rocky The Robo-Squirrel

an ornithologist with Cornell University, was able to talk to a parrot through speakers hidden in a bush. The parrot was later seen encouraging other parrots to follow a set of commandments. At Indiana University, researchers were even able to build a robot that could successfully challenge male lizards to push up contests. Can complete control of the reptile psyche be far behind? “Whether it's a bunch of squirrels in a field or humans in a mall, there are general principles of behavior that seem to hold up across species lines,” said Greg Demas, director of Indiana University's Center for the Integrative Study of Animal Behavior. This indicates just one eventual outcome of this line of research: creating robots that can successfully challenge humans to push up contests.

The mother being the biggest rules the roost, but if she dies, the nest already has what is needed. The biggest sister is the most likely winner. It's not just that good nests are hard to find, but when finding one it's much easier to be caught out in the open and become someone else's dinner

The Fantastic in Art & Fiction
Aribeth
by Aribeth  3-3-2008    7
 >>Images were selected for their intrinsic relationship to the topic, because they illuminated an important dynamic, or quite simply because they were unusually striking.Though, inevitably, some familiar pieces will be found in these pages, we have attempted to favor rare or unusual works that, to our knowledge, have not been reproduced before. Hence the concomitant emphasis on book illustration, and on a wealth of images that have remained more or less invisible in canonical art histories. Because of its rich and varied modes of representation the Fantastic also lends itself quite easily to interdisciplinary approaches. Psychology and sociology, art and literary history, anthropology and folklore among other disciplines, can provide avenues of investigation useful in the study of such basic critical or analytical concepts for the Fantastic as repression, the uncanny, indeterminacy, or the postmodern.<<

Pediatric Ritalin Use May Affect Developing Brain
dorine

I'm thinking...well, Duh! At least 2+ generations of kids are affected. The doctors tried to get my parents to put me on it when I was 5. So glad they refused. They changed doctors instead. I feel so sorry for these kids. So many are addicted to cocaine, etc. It has kept them from being who they were meant to be.
