POPSNational Wildlife Magazine - photo contest winners FROM A CARDINAL splashing in a Florida birdbath to a leopard lurking in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, the winning images of the 38th annual National Wildlife Photo Contest are as varied as the species that populate this planet. This year’s winners were drawn from our largest-ever pool of entries—more than 55,000 in six categories: Mammals, Birds, Other Wildlife, Landscapes and Plant Life, Backyard Habitats and Connecting People and Nature. Along with selecting the $5,000 grand prize winner, judges awarded cash and other prizes for the first- and second-place winners in every category in each of two divisions, amateur and professional. Democrats' passion wasn't matched by GOP When the official counts are in, Gans said, the final tally may approach 129 million, which would be almost 62 percent of eligible voters, up from 60.6 percent four years ago but below the 1964 turnout rate of 64 percent of eligible voters under Gans's formula. In counts posted as of late yesterday, Obama led McCain 67 million votes to 58.5 million, with 1.7 million votes cast for minor party candidates and write-ins. That is a popular-vote margin of about 6.7 percentage points. Other factors, including down-ballot contests for congressional seats, state offices, and statewide ballot questions also might have affected turnout in some states. While some states trumpeted high turnout figures based on the number of registered voters, neither Gans nor McDonald use voter registration figures as the basis for determining eligible voters because the quality and maintenance of current voter lists varies greatly from state to state.

Losses "If you turn the clock back two or two and half weeks, you could make a plausible argument that if a couple of things go our way we will lose three to four Senate races," an unnamed strategist told WaPo . "Now we will lose six to eight." Polling in most Senate races over the past 14 days has shown a five-point decline for the Republican candidate, the strategist said. The piece continues: The picture in the House is similar. The generic ballot test -- a traditional measure of broad voter attitudes -- has also moved decisively in Democrats' direction in recent days. The latest NBC-Wall Street Journal and Associated Press polls showed voters favoring a generic Democratic candidate for Congress over a generic Republican by 13 points, while a recent Time magazine poll gave Democrats a 46 percent to 36 percent edge. It's looking more and more like 2006 all over again.

That summarizes the story behind this very slanted and propaganda-driven news article from the "liberal UK media", which states everything in such a manner as to suggest this as an offensive, instead of defensive, measure. So the US goads the UN into new economic sanctions in the game to eventually go to war, and Iran seeing this clearly warns of the consequences that attacking Iran will be no cake walk. Iran has missile systems to take out battle ships. The chess game continues, and war and oil prices (effecting all Americans daily lives) hang in the balance.

POPSWriter's Digest 101 Best Sites Awards for 2008 There was NO way I was going to try and clip all of these sites but they are ALL worthwhile to any beginning writer or even a journeyman writer who has been out of the game for a while. I did not even go through the entire list but chose bits and pieces from the first half or so. Many say that there is no way that a writer can be discovered or get free advice. Here is some free advice. Enter Contests. Enter EVERY Contest you are eligible for. Wjen you look on the list and see the Horror Writer's Association link (Horror.org) I want you to know that this last Halloween, I found out just a half-hour before the deadline that a contest was running. I found an old story, dusted it off and entered it with 15 minutes to spare. I won. 1st Prize. My story was eventually printed in Rue Morgue magazine and now I am writing for a publisher under contract! Who'd a thunk it?
