CBS and NBC Skip Hasan's Ominous 'We Love Death More Than You Love Life'
merrie
by merrie  11-11-2009    1
Brian Ross reported: The Washington Post reported today that Hasan presented this PowerPoint presentation at Walter Reed hospital in 2007, saying: “It's getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims.” Under comments, he wrote: “We love death more than you love life.” And his conclusion was that Muslim soldiers be given the option of being released from the military, as conscientious objectors, to decrease what he called “adverse events.” Bob Orr, on the CBS Evening News: There were reasons to worry. Hasan received poor performance reviews at Walter Reed, frequently criticized the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and in June, 2007, Hasan gave a shocking presentation to colleagues. Using slides, Hasan argued forcing Muslim soldiers to fight wars in Muslim countries puts them “at risk to hurting/killing believers unjustly” and he ominously warned of “adverse events." .....

Shministim: Conscientious Objectors, who served time in Jail
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  1-14-2009
The group most in favour of killing Arabs do not themselves join the IDF to do the killing. No, it is not the settlers, nor the politicians that avoid what they are adamant others must do on their behalf but they are among the most virulent in advocating killing. Do you know who this privileged group are?

Israel's Young Conscientious Objectors
blueridge
by blueridge  12-3-2008
Refuse to serve military of Palestinian occupation, and been jailed for it. The campaign here calls for the.... for the release of those teenagers who have been jailed for their principled refusal to serve in an army which occupies the Palestinian Territories. The imprisonment of these conscientious objectors is a violation of their human rights and contrary to International Law. Absolutely! The majority in Israel, and even media like Haaretz Press, are more predisposed to sympathize with Palestinians than the government elite. Even Olmert suggested they give back land from the '67 war to make peace with Syria and Palestinians, but he is now a lame duck PM.

VFP Calls for U.S. Withdrawal From Afghanistan and the Prosecution of Dick Cheney and George Bush fo
papananook
by papananook  9-11-2008
This same resolution calls for the U.S. government to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, in non-coercive forms, to help them rebuild their own nation and their lives in cooperation with other nations in the region; and to allow the people of Afghanistan to freely determine their own government without interference by the U.S. "These three statements from our membership represent many of the core values of our organization. We believe that service members have the right to re-evaluate their decision to kill and change their mind. We know that after all the killing is done the individual soldiers must live with themselves and make sense of what they have done. We believe that our political leaders must be held accountable for their actions. This is a critical to a healthy and functional democracy. We realize that to survive the challenges we face today, like global warming, we must find ways to work together and war is not viable." To read full text of the resolu

Anti-deportation rally for war resisters raises eyebrows
tabsey
by tabsey  7-15-2008
I reckon Dick would be pushing this barrow. Why would you bother chasing a bloke with two duty tours before he deserted.? He's done more than Dick'n'George did between them, and they weren't conscientious objectors - they just didn't want their heads blown off and were looked after.

Canada Refuses Stay to Resisters of an Illegal War
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  5-27-2008
There are many people alive today because Canada gave them refuge from another felonious war so long ago in Vietnam. Now, they are turning their backs to resisters even though they themselves, decided not to fight an illegal war. Hmmm, I wonder why? In a free country, one should have the right to protest an unjust war but we are not a free country. The conscientious objectors have no where to turn.. They can't go back to their own country and Canada won't allow them to stay within their borders. Isn't it ironic that Bush and Cheney have illegally kidnapped and transported people out of different countries to deliver them for torture, abroad and have yet to receive punishment for their criminal actions. Yet a resister to an unlawful preempted war gets the book thrown at him. You must fight, and possibly die even if it is only for a neocon pipedream... Something is so wrong with this picture. I sure hope President Bush enjoyed his game of golf today!

More Families Refusing Vaccinations, Acting Smarter
blueridge
by blueridge  3-5-2008
Good mom, safer children. People no longer trust the government and are taking personal responsibility. Smart. And they are pushing State laws to permit conscientious objectors to vaccines. The government does not own your child's body, or yours, and scientific method does not support the assertion that vaccines work or actually prevent illness, while they do show that many become sick due to them. (See the history of anti-vaccination and small pox).

Like Ward Churchill's 'conscientious objectors'...who Churchill said should frag their officers. This guy claimed a lot of ridiculous things, which have been pretty much debunked already; like chasing dogs in a Bradley. A Bradley isn't stealth enough to chase a dog. It's too loud, it doesn't turn on a dime, and visibility is limited because the hatch is on the left...not very bright. But propaganda works...like Lenin said, A lie told often enough becomes truth.

Israel's Conscientious Objectors: The Categorical Imperative
righthand
by righthand  7-24-2007    4
Third, you corrupt the army. If all moral people leave the army, it will remain in the hands of the immoral ones. The checkpoints will be manned exclusively by Arab-haters, operations will be executed by sadists. But if the decent people remain in the army, they can influence its spirit, preventing by their very presence injustices and atrocities, or, at least, bringing them to light. I have always supported an individual's right to refuse. But I myself was not ready to call upon young people to follow this line. My position was that persons must decide for themselves where they will best serve the fight against the occupation--inside or outside the army. First of all, many soldiers have convinced me that it is almost impossible to withstand the pressure inside the army. The brainwashing is intense and unrelenting; those in the higher ranks are more and more like robots with blunted senses, the products of the occupation; not to mention the members of the religious academies conn
