POPSBrain and Creativity Institute The mission of the Brain and Creativity Institute is to gather new knowledge about the human emotions, decision-making, memory, and communication, from a neurological perspective, and to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems in the biomedical and sociocultural arenas.

POPSWhite to be another minority Why does this matter? Diversity is a necessary component for a healthy and successfully functioning society. The fact that this information is released now is suspect. Right-wingers will somehow use this as evidence of the need for toughter immigration policies. The superficiality of these numbers become more so as more minority members are voted into public office and begin to hold a larger presence in America's economy. Although the government is using race as the measure, it seems what is being alluded to is really a change in culture, with the inaccurate conjecture being that an increase in minorities will not only change how America looks but what it stands for and the values it upholds.

POPSMicrobes Could Travel from Venus to Earth So our first life may have come from Venus or, you guessed, Mars. This gives greater credence to the book "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus." (The book needs all the credibility it can get)

POPSTo believe or not to believe? , contrasting disbelief and belief showed increased brain response in the left inferior frontal gyrus, the anterior insula and the dorsal anterior cingulate, all associated with responses to negative stimuli, pain perception and disgust. Finally, contrasting uncertainty with both belief and disbelief revealed elevated neural action in the anterior cingulate cortex, a region associated with conflict resolution. What do these results tell us? “Several psychological studies appear to support Spinoza’s conjecture that the mere comprehension of a statement entails the tacit acceptance of its being true, whereas disbelief requires a subsequent process of rejection”

POPSStrange Things Afoot-Run For Your Life!
3) Papers falling into the trashcan. Please refer your boss to appropriate experts in astronomy, mechanics, and theoretical physics. During this dangerous time, it is essential that all soul-deadened middle-managers understand it is simply not your fault your assignments won't stay on the desk. 4) Fat people falling off diets. Please refer to your body in that high-school bikini you can still "fit into." 5) Ice-cream falling off cones. This only happens when you are derelict in your ice-cream eating duties. Have you no shame? 6) Time falling off clocks. Despite the widespread transition to digital, this is expected to remain a significant problem in the coming months, as the minute and hour hands alike are pulled down swiftly toward the poles of 6 and 12 (6 + 6). Inconclusive data is leading some scientists to conjecture the end of the world is near, and to encourage their lab assistants to experiment further with observed phenomenon No. 1. POPSWhy Italians grab their crotches These days, an Italian man might also grab his crotch in risky situations, like a high-stakes poker game. In such cases, the grab isn't a defense mechanism against bad luck but rather a way to generate good luck. Once again, this practice relates to the folk belief that the phallus is auspicious because it's the source of masculinity and reproduction.

POPSTime Travel Here and Now This could explain the reality of John Titor's existence suggesting that time travel could be available in the future. Which is what John Titor claimed would be the case.

POPS'Second Earth' found a cool red dwarf called Gliese 581 has a planet companion that seemingly fits within the limits set for being inhabitable. The possibility of life evolving on the planet is realistic enough to consider the fact that we may not be as alone in the universe as previously thought. Conjecture and speculation combine to fuel interest in the possibility that either we may have neighbors or that we may have real estate to colonize in the future. Who knows what the future will bring to us while our own planet grows increasingly uninhabitable.

POPSAbby Really is Dear I was never a huge fan of the original Dear Abby, but her daughter Jeanne took over the column when her mother became terminally ill, the tone and attitude of the opinions given began to take a more modern and tolerant direction. I hope you will tale the time to read the entire piece, as it is very interesting and enlightening about the views of the new "Dear Abby."

POPS 9-11 documentary I think it has some theories put forth, but still shocking to see some things. Like at 15:00 min. of the doc, the reporter telling events that did'nt happen yet.....

POPSAmerica Loses Its Stature as Tallest Country Maybe if we thought more about our children's well-being than about wealth and power, we would grow up a little. The future and our future as a nation is our children. Neglect them and we ultimately do harm to our country. Were is the concern for them. I don't see it. Bush recently vetoed a bill that would have given our kids more health care. He vetoed it on "ideological" grounds......afraid that this bill might lead to some kind of socialized medicine, instead of the current "un-socialized" medicine,....I guess!

POPSThe Remarkable Relative Decline in U.S. Heights, 1959-2004 Conclusion. We conjecture that the U.S. health-care system, as well as the relatively weak welfare safety net, might be why human growth in the United States has not performed as well in relative terms as one would expect on the basis of income alone. The comparative pattern bears some similarly to that of life expectancy insofar as the United States is also lagging behind in that respect. Update: Added "Relative" to title

http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,,2085682,00.html Israel threatens - 3 years: 11 Israelis killed, 1 week: 50 Palestinians http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/859556.html Kawasmeh's resignation / Anarchy wins in Gaza - Haaretz - Israel News | May17 Background, to give a sense of any command structure that we might be dealing with. It explains why culprit names seem to vary for the same incident. Now your question..."First what exactly is proportionate to a constant rain of Qassam rocket?" and I ask what damage was done. I know one lady died. I believe that it was a mistake. Most hit the ground far away from any real targets. The odd hits are MISTAKES, IMHO. Missiles are so erratic that some must go astray. That is no excuse but what we get as information will be refined down. It often suits both sides and the games they play, with the media. I have mainly only my reasoning and experience of knowing that nothing is black and white, for my conjecture. Should I continue?

POPSGoogle Security Blog So Google is talking publicly about security, no surprise there, but Jay Neely over at Social Strategist Blog thinks its a deeper indication of a move by Google into the security software market. Will there be a Google Security Client package soon?

POPSPolice officer attempts to run news crew out of rocket range. If the officer were running away, his tail would have been between his legs and there would be a shot of him running past, not TO the photographer. The gentle but only partially out of frame, is facing forward, not running away from the flames, presumably, a news person. The officer, aware that Palestinans shooting blindly Qassam rockets, had at least a fractional likelihood of coming back into that general area. Of course this is all conjecture. All I can say for certain is that that building and car didn't smoke...not like that it didn't.
