POPSLanny Davis Wants to “Name Names, Publish Photographs” of the Conservative Mob
Worse of all, he wants to “have the media name names, publish photographs, and do interviews of those responsible…” This comes on the heels of Linda Douglass, Communications Director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, who just this week asked all citizens to report any “fishy” talk, emails or websites to the White House so they can investigate any “disinformation” about healthcare. Here are Orwellian words of Lanny Davis from yesterday, August 5: The “shout downs” organized by the Republican right meet one of the classic definition of “fascist” tactics"defined as using shouting and disruption to deprive the civil and respectful debate of ideas. There is literally no defense to these tactics. I don’t criticize those who feel genuine anger or fear and show up to meetings to express those emotions. But I do call out the tactic of screaming and disrupting a meeting and the fact that this is a systematic tactic by thugs who want to prevent civil discourse, not promote it.

POPSRacism on Campus (University of Colorado)
This is a message I came across Tuesday morning that was sent to my Webmail inbox. “Black Bitch” is the subject of the message. My first thought? This has to be a joke, right? Someone is trying to play a game with me, right? With further reading and analysis, I realized someone was not playing a game with me. My life has been threatened, and I do not stand alone. Listen to me please, MY LIFE HAS BEEN THREATENED. There are two other members of the small Black community here at CU that have received similar hate messages within the past year that I know of - me being the first Black female that has received such a hateful message, again, that I know of. A Colorado e-mail address sent this message to me, meaning someone on the CU Boulder campus could have logged on to any Internet connection and sent me this message entitled “Black Bitch.” I am angry. I am hurt. I am sad. I am confused. Why was I pinpointed? Why has it become okay to send hateful, hurtful messages

POPSWriting Term Paper Analysis on Poetry Term paper analysis on poetry is usually a requirement in literature classes. Poets often use figures of speech in writing their piece and the meaning of these words are difficult to understand. Students get confused over the figures of speech used in poems so when their professors ask them to write term papers analyzing a poem, they would find it too complicated to interpret the poem and sometimes resort to literal interpretations of the poem.

POPSObama's Promise And The 9/11 Families On Feb. 6, the president arrived in the Roosevelt Room to a standing though subdued ovation from some 40 family members. With a White House photographer in his wake, Mr. Obama greeted family members one at a time and offered brief remarks that were full of platitudes ("you are the conscience of the country," "my highest duty as president is to protect the American people," "we will seek swift and certain justice"). Glossing over the legal complexities, he gave a vague summary of the detainee cases and why he chose to suspend them, focusing mostly on the need for speed and finality. Many family members pressed for Guantanamo to remain open and for the military commissions to go forward. Mr. Obama allowed that the detention center had been unfairly confused with Abu Ghraib, but when asked why he wouldn't rehabilitate its image rather than shut it down, he silently shrugged. Next question.

POPSDid an Obama judicial nominee really express a preference for Allah over Jesus? No, but that didn't stop Gingrich from lying about it and wignuttia to go ape$#@! over it. Compare what Newt said versus the clipped section: "You have Obama nominating Judge Hamilton, who said in her ruling that saying the words Jesus Christ in a prayer is a sign of inappropriate behavior, but saying Allah would be OK. You'll find most Republican senators voting against a judge who is confused about whether you can say Jesus Christ in a prayer, particularly one who is pro-Muslim being able to say Allah."

POPSThe Lovingkindness Survival Kit - by Suzette Hadin Elgin More: Introduction: The Lovingkindness Survival Kit is small, and simple; fold it up and it will fit in your pocket, or your backpack, or any small corner. It is more than big enough, in a homeworld already so very crowded. It holds the basic necessities of ritual, ready when you feel a need for them. It has been constructed with the most scrupulous attention that I could bring to the task. It may be that none of the words you find here will strike you as words that you can fit into your life. If so, remember that all around you is the radiant Holy Book of the Universe; remember that at every hand are the words spoken and written by the wise, available always for your use. Remember, too, the counsel of your heart; respect and trust it. May you go in lovingkindness in this world.

POPS The Real Obama Why much of the public and the media have been so mesmerized by the words and the image of Obama, and so little interested in learning about the factual reality, was perhaps best explained by an official of the Democratic Party: "People don't come to Obama for what he's done, they come because of what they hope he can be." David Freddoso's book should be read by those people who want to know what the facts are. But neither this book nor anything else is likely to change the minds of Obama's true believers, who have made up their minds and don't want to be confused by the facts.

POPSFox Noise Is At It Again!! Dear Fox News or rather Noise, Your behavior goes way beyond the pale. In fact your type of excessive fear mongering displays exactly what you try to paint Senator Barack Obama as... foreign, un-American, suspicious, and scary. I realize your viewers are mainly the Limbaugh Ditto Heads but that doesn't excuse your spewing racist and bigoted defamation over our airwaves. You should hang your heads in shame but you have no shame. If you had a human attribute such as guilt you would have stopped long ago to slander anyone who went against your mindset of the rich should get richer and the poor should get lies and distortion. In other words keep the ignorant, ignorant! Your sponsors are as responsible as you, in their disservice to the public and I hope with all that is good they will eventually become losers just like yourselves.

POPSIsn't that Ironic?
Wow, how funny that a conservative Christian leader is chastising Obama saying he's distorting and mis-interpreting the bible. Isn't that what these conservative, radical Christian leaders do everyday? They treat some passages in the bible as law directly from god, and others as not being applicable in today's world. They also translate the original language of the bible differently to represent the views they want to present in the time. Translating some words to mean one thing, even though historically they may have meant something else. Again, it's fine if you want to believe your religious views - no problem with that. But when you start trying to use the law to enforce your rules on people who don't hold your same beliefs, that's where I have issues. I think Obama made a great point with his statements. And by the way for Mr Dobson - Jesus didn't discourage slavery in the New Testament, and actually referenced it several times. Or is that one of those passages you s

POPSThe off limits topic only he can discuss Obama: "It's conceivable that there are those in the Arab world who say to themselves, ‘This is a guy who spent some time in the Muslim world, has a middle name of Hussein, and appears more worldly and has called for talks with people, and so he's not going to be engaging in the same sort of cowboy diplomacy as George Bush,' and that's something they're hopeful about. I think that's a perfectly legitimate perception as long as they're not confused about my unyielding support for Israel's security." *** end Obama quote *** "So then, it would appear okay to discuss his middle name and childhood exposure to Islam when it helps explain his high regard among terrorists. And that they're now positive points -- particularly when they can be drawn upon to level a cheap shot at the president while pandering to Jewish voters. "

POPSFor those touched most by 9/11, a turning point in faith
rest of article: Brian Jordan, a Franciscan priest who ministered to rescue and recovery workers, says there were no atheists at Ground Zero — suddenly everyone had a spiritual life, no matter how tortured or confused. Jay Rosenbaum, a Long Island rabbi, says he was almost overwhelmed when he arrived at Ground Zero on Sept. 12. But later, he conducted a simple prayer service in vestments that included a hard hat, combat boots and a prayer shawl. “Our mission is to look not only at the devastation there,” he said in his impromptu sermon, pointing to the shell of one tower, “but the devotion here” — the dusty, exhausted, rescue workers around him. “It was one of the most affirming moments of my life,” he says now. “I felt this was something I was worthy of doing.” To others, 9/11 seems to belie the notion of an all-loving, all-powerful God. Sam Harris began writing The End of Faith, his best-selling attack on religion, the day after the attacks. Jonathan Miller, who wrote

POPSTomato: Fruit or Vegetable In fact, in 1893 the Supreme Court of the United Stated curiously decreed the tomato a vegetable, although recognizing that botanically speaking it is a fruit. This unusual declaration was based on the existence of an 1883 tariff that charged ten percent on imported vegetables, including tomatoes. A frustrated tomato importer decided to challenge the tariff, arguing that tomatoes were actually a fruit and thus should be excluded from the vegetable tariff. The Supreme Court agreed that tomatoes were botanically a fruit, but argued that they were commonly grown in kitchen gardens with vegetables and treated as vegetables in markets and American households. In other words, the United States Government wanted its tariff money—the heck with botany!

POPSSeven Cues for Possible Lies
2. Speech Disturbances – When we lie, we force our brain to pretend: that the lie is true, that the truth is a lie and simultaneously remember, that the real truth is that each is the other. Are you confused? So is your brain when you lie. The process of deception taxes our cognitive capability to think efficiently, so when we are lying, we will pause longer and speak slower than normal and often experience speech disturbances that serve as gap fillers. These include, but are not limited to, ah, er, um, ug, hum, etc. You should train yourself to be alert for deception when you hear this kind of verbal cue. 3. Incongruent behavior – When our words and our body language don’t agree, our communication is said to be incongruent. For example, imagine that you ask a salesman if he can assure your delivery will be on time. If he explains how certain he is about it being on time while also shaking his head (as if non-verbally saying “no”), he is incongruent. When this sort of incongruency o
