POPSThe Haudenosaunee Protocol From my heart to yours. Namaste and much metta. Meanings: Namaste is salutation that is a Sanskrit term which can be understood to mean, that I respect that divinity within you that is also within me. Mettā signifies friendship and non-violence as well as "a strong wish for the happiness of others", but also less obvious or direct qualities such as showing patience, receptivity, and appreciation. The strength of this feeling is not limited to or by family, religion, or social class. Indeed, Mettā is a tool that permits one's generosity and kindness to be applied to all beings and, as a consequence, one finds true happiness in another person's happiness, no matter who the individual is.

POPSMuseum: Civil War surrender document no photocopy
Coldren said it had been glued to a cardboard backing and varnished, an apparent attempt to preserve it. "Old photostat copies from the '20s and '30s are shiny like that, so this is why you'd think this is not a real document," he said. Coldren said museum officials examining the document recently noticed that the indentation of pens into the paper was visible. He said they also noticed that the ink on the document was darker and lighter in places, as would be expected with the pens used at the time. The lines on a photostat would be of consistent darkness. "You can see where they're dipping the pen in to get more ink," he said. Details of the terms and conditions of the surrender were worked out by six men the day after Lee and Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant agreed on the broad terms of the surrender. Three copies were made, according to the memoir of Union Gen. John Gibbon, whom Grant put in charge of working out the details of the surrender. Gibbon kept one copy

POPSScientology Slapped With Civil RICO Suit The Super Adventure Club probably isn't what the statute's drafters had in mind, but then again.. Notre Dame law professor G. Robert Blakey, one of its main drafters, insists that Congress never intended to restrict its application to the Mob. "We don't want one set of rules for people whose collars are blue or whose names end in vowels, and another set for those whose collars are white and have Ivy League diplomas," he says. Presumably the same goes for people whose collars are red and who rule the Galactic Confederacy. (HT: WWTDD)

POPSWest Virginia, Rogue State Formed Unlawfully
It's West Virginia Day June 20th. The state was formed illegally by a minority insurrection 145 years ago. Beautiful state, but with an unlawfully formed government. This is lifted from West Virginia's own archives. History records the controversy. "there is no evidence that the majority of people within the counties which were to compose the new state had ever given its assent to its formation." Fruits of the Civil War, "Old Dominion" Virginia was ripped in half. Virginia has never officially recognized the rogue state of West Virginia in law. Lincoln himself called it merely "expeditious", not legal. Lincoln and Congress had no more authority to permit the state anymore than Bush could authorize West Pennsylvania or Northern California. During the Civil War those who supported the Yankee Union position were called "anti-Virginians". State's rights was greatly trampled which the Constitution itself in the 10th amendment defends. It's been rougher eve

POPSFeminist's Take On Hillary Clinton
More: "I just don't think it's true. When she had a big job in government, she blew it," said the British-based Greer, referring to Hillary Clinton's work on health issues during her husband's administration Greer, who has made headlines with provocative attacks on the likes of Diana, Princess of Wales and the late Australian "crocodile hunter" Steve Irwin, said she knew the Clintons personally. She attacked the former first couple's marital style, saying the pair enjoyed a "confederacy" or business partnership, rather than an emotional relationship. "They give me the creeps, from that point of view," Greer said. But Greer said that while she did not like Hillary, who is battling fellow Democrat Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for the presidency, she was a fan of the US president who was in power from 1993-2001. "Everybody loves Bill. Bill is adorable and Bill is always flattering me and inviting me to stuff in Britain and we're buddy-buddy, and I like him," s

POPSThe Arrogance of Being Dumb Sort of, "In my humble opinion you are stupid because you can think." The comfort to be found within a confederacy of dunces. (And imho a far greater indicator of the growth of fascism than them bad folk at the top)

POPSThis Guy Ain't No Bill Clinton.
Obama will be good for America. And if you are still hankering for Hillary because of notions you've been holding onto for some time now, or some revival of the '90's......STOP......and really LOOK at the candidates. LOOK at the difference.Look in their eyes. Listen to their voices. Watch their mannerisms. Look at whether they are hiding something or not. You can tell. If you have come to believe that Hillary has plans and goals that have so convinced you and that are so important to you that you are willing to overlook the proven track record of deceit and the obvious disdain she feels for people and the phony front she uses to mask it, then I think it is time you re-examine your understanding of those goals and plans you think she has for America. Then re-adjust them back down to reality. Then, after that, compare them to Obama's. As thin as they've been, he has a philosophy - which is more than just hope. He will do things because they are the correct thing to do rather than who

POPSWhere Would Jesus Drill? "It is widely believed among evangelical Christians (and some Orthodox Jews) that Scripture foretells a massive oil find in the Holy Land; prophecy buffs are especially captivated by a passage in Ezekiel that says Armageddon will be triggered by a band of nations—Russia, Iran, and a confederacy of Arab countries are most often named as the likely suspects—attacking Israel to "take a great spoil." Their faith has spurred a sprawling, decades-long treasure hunt. At least 10 companies or individuals have searched for oil in Israel using biblical clues. So far, few of the more than 400 wells drilled there have turned up commercial quantities of oil and gas. But the willingness of ordinary churchgoers to invest their life savings has kept the ventures going—and made the business rich terrain for a bevy of false prophets, penny-stock hustlers, and con men."

POPSCensorship in American Universities: Harvard But is it anti-Semitic to ask why the Palestinians should pay the price for the ghastly crime of the Germans? Why were the property rights of the German perpetrators sacrosanct and those of the guiltless Palestinians adjudged an acceptable casualty? In U.S. foreign policy, not all racial groups are guaranteed the same rights and protections. Otherwise, why does the U.S. rightly defend Jewish people’s claims on EU bank accounts, property, and compensation for labour expropriated during the 1930s and 1940s, while quashing the rights of millions of Palestinians refugees to lands, houses, and goods stolen as a condition of Israel’s founding in the late 1940s? As a nation we seem unconscious of the hypocrisy. The convention that persecuted Europeans had the right to safe havens on lands stolen from non-EU was, by the mid-20th century, as outmoded as the Confederacy’s defence of slavery in the mid-19th. ...Harvard Crimson

POPSA quote by Ted Poe in contrast to his more recent remarks. We have become accustomed to politicians talking out both sides of their mouths, however I am truly intrigued by how people can genuinely hold two conflicting opinions at the same time. Most recently Mr. Poe has made waves for quoting Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate cavalier and founder of the KKK on the house floor. Needless to say, since Forrest led armed actions against US soldiers and police both during and after the Civil War, he certainly did not support our troops.Yet why is the Confederacy so iconic for many conservatives? Supoorting the Confederacy and what they stood for is by definition Anti-American. I will not allow my patriotism or anyone else's to be questioned by anyone praising the Stars and Bars. I support the Stars and Stripes.

POPSCivil War history: Battle of Fort Pillow, 4/12/1864 "d" pointed out that today is the anniversary of the Battle of Fort Pillow at Lawyers, Guns, and Money . He notes that the commander of the Confederates was Nathan Bedford Forrest (who would go on to found the KKK). Forrest remains perhaps the most famous Tennesseeans of the 19th century. More than 30 monuments and state markers have been cast in his honor, including a statue at the state capitol building in Nashville. A state park bears his name, as did a World War II-era Army base in Tullahoma; the ROTC building at Middle Tennessee State University is named for the Klan leader and war criminal, as are two public high schools in the Volunteer State.

POPSExactly! ... I just talked to my friend, an Illini fan, who was very upset about this situation. I think this is a perfect response.

POPSThe South and the GOP, again...... I'm not the only one who is concerned. My earlier clip about Nascar, the South and the GOP fits nicely, sadly, into this train of thought. I agree that the South can have at it, alone. Would be kinda weird to have to carry a passport to head "south of the border" - don't think Pepe will be pleased.

POPSHugo Chavez = Benjamin Franklin? I had to create a new collection for this one. It is tittled "Whatever!!!!". The amount of intellectual dishonesty and downright misrepresentation in this article is staggering. Also, the notion that there can be a middle class without the upper and lower classes defies logic and basic understanding of human affairs. Also, the idea that the US constitution was based on that of the Iroquois is pure myth. As is the idea that the Iroquois were some sort of Utopian society.
