Survival of California condors hangs on lead ban, study says
Kelika
by Kelika  8-10-2008
"But they also noted that humans who ingest meat from game can suffer adverse effects from lead: "Removing lead ammunition is not only right for condors, it is right for other scavengers, and it is right for hunters and their families." The report called on the Fish and Wildlife Service, which oversees the recovery program, to "increase the visibility of its leadership."

Ban on Lead Bullets Will Help Save the California Condor
dmccluredvm
by dmccluredvm  7-1-2008
Beginning July 1, lead ammunition will be banned throughout a wide swath of California to further protect the endangered California condor. While some hunters may not be pleased, few people are happier than Assemblyman Pedro Nava, who first introduced the ban, known as the Ridley-Tree Condor Preservation Act, in 2005.

CIA involvement in murderous Operation Condor
righthand
by righthand  12-25-2007    4
The US ambassador to Paraguay, Robert White, feared that the US connection to Condor might be publicly revealed at a time when the assassination in the USA of Chilean former minister Orlando Letelier and his American assistant Ronni Moffitt was being investigated. White cabled that "it would seem advisable to review this arrangement to insure that its continuation is in US interest." This demonstrates that the US facilitated communications for Operation Condor, and has been called by J. Patrice McSherry (Long Island Univ.) "another piece of increasingly weighty evidence suggesting that U.S. military and intelligence officials supported and collaborated with Condor as a secret partner or sponsor." It has been argued that while the US was not a key member, it "provided organizational, intelligence, financial and technological assistance to the operation."

When it's dry, trees can burn like tinder. Every Summer Australia has a bush fire season. It just started, and is expected to go until February. The Bushfire brigade, consists of people throughout Australia, who help fight fires in their areas. The fact that Fires are expected, never makes it any easier, because fire can be so unpredictable. At the same time as things are drying out to the point where a spark, or a cigarette can start them, there is also less water to put them out.

California OKs bills to ban phthalates in kids' products, and lead bullets in condor country
jetcloud
by jetcloud  10-15-2007
'Some of the vetoed environmental bills include legislation that would have required chain restaurants to list nutrition information on common menu items, a bill that would have forced apartment complexes to offer recycling to their tenets, a measure that would have required bottled-water companies to reveal the source of their water, a pair of bills requiring new energy-efficiency standards for both residential and commercial buildings, and legislation that would have required labeling food made from cloned animals.'
