POPS'Dry Toilets' Provide Ecological Solution We have what we call a "composting toilet" in the woodland. If human solids and liquids are kept apart, there is no smell at all, and all you have to do add a couple of pinches of sawdust instead of flushing. I wouldn't put the resulting sweet smelling compost on the veg garden because being at the top of the food chain too many heavy meals and chemicals are contained in human waste. It is good for grass and trees though. And no water is used at all. It is much more hygenic than spreading waste around in water, too, since it is all kept in one container until it is "done".

POPSIs CREDO Action Shilling for Fast Food Nation?
To an old hand at how people with their own axe to grind plant stories that show them in a good light, I smell a rat, The big rat I smell is the USA Today story is that those aligned with the Fast Food Nation helped "validate" the USA Today "expose." A careful reading shows that the school lunch program will be revisited next year, so this is round one in trying to get Jack in the Box, KFC, Mickey D and others into the K-12 school lunch rooms. They already end up serving most of the food in US colleges because they are seen as revenue sources. The industry spokespeople and the university profs (whose research may well be funded by backers of fast food in K-12 lunchrooms) would not have joined in the story if it did not serve the ends of their "bosses." Fast food meat may meet standards but the end product feeds obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, and type two diabetes. So the question is this: is CREDO just being slow, or are they receiving support from the Fast Food Nation

POPSBiodegradable Dog Poop Bag Biodegradable Dog Poop Bag! The best solution for disposal of pet waste has always been to separate it from the bag or paper and flush it down the toilet. Using Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags extends your options. The waste and the bag can be thrown in your backyard compost, where both items can decompose naturally; the waste and bag can be buried, where micro-organisms will quickly eat both; the waste and bag can be set at curbside with other yard waste where communities collect biodegradable waste for composting.

POPSSomething I will likely never have the pleasure of saying... As i read this comment, which was posted by one of Amplify's users (http://openintelligence.amplify.com/), i couldn't help but think to myself that i have never been exposed to this type of living. I say that with a combination of jealousy and regret... to be more connected to nature is something i'd like very much.

POPSCompost Pile Friends they may not look nice but they are big helpers (most of the time). However, if you are concerned about the food web in your compost pile "breaking out," try the following tips: 1. Create a barrier by spreading a line of wood ash (not barbecue ash because of fat residues) or crushed egg shells around your compost pile. This will keep the activity contained within the pile. 2. A similar, but more lethal technique, is to sink small margarine containers full of stale beer, molasses and water, or yeast and water in the ground around the compost pile. Unsuspecting slugs, sow bugs, and earwigs will be attracted to the liquid, crawl inside, and drown. Earwigs can be sprayed with a solution of one tablespoon of liquid soap detergent combined with one quart of water. This will kill the earwigs that are doing damage and spare the helpful bugs that are eating dead organic material. (information from California Integrated Waste Management Board)

POPSChristians told to take down green campaign posters that mention God by Camden council Doesn't feel so good when the shoe is on the other foot now does it? Story continues: "A group organiser said: “This time last year we held a Green Fair for the Feast of St Francis, which was a great community event. Our local MP Frank Dobson and many town councillors came. “We had a good deal of support from Camden Council who had stalls promoting recycling and compost. I don’t understand why they they won’t allow us to put up our posters this year.” Mike Judge, a campaigning group for the Christian Institute, added: “Camden’s decision is ridiculous and most people will roll their eyes and shake their heads at it. It would be laughable, if it were not so serious. “But it is serious because it reveals a problem deep at the heart of too many public bodies. They think it’s OK to trample on Christianity in a way that they would never do with any other religious group. That complacency has to stop.” "
