POPSMore Evidence for a Revolutionary Theory of Water The current study is the most recent addition to a growing body of evidence for a new theory about the structure of liquid water. In 2004, Nilsson and colleagues sparked controversy with a paper published in Science that suggested the tetrahedral model of water was incorrect. Nilsson agrees that the debate is far from settled and that much work remains before a clear picture of liquid water emerges. "Over the last decade or so we have discovered that materials once considered homogeneous exhibit complex nanoscale order," said Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory director Jo Stöhr. "In my view, the work on water is yet another example of the actual complexity of matter, this time within a simple liquid. Modern X-ray work appears to be triggering a new understanding of liquids and we may have only seen the beginning of a paradigm shift in our understanding."

POPSHypothosis gains validity from objections.
Do extremism and an unconditional adherence to religious dogma result from a failure of a portion of the frontal lobe to fully develop or, if fully developed, to activate? Studies suggest that faithful adherence to a single reasoning strategy on tests such as the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test means that parts of the frontal lobes are inactive, have failed to fully develop, or have even been damaged. Thus, unqualified disdain for divergent beliefs, for personal interpretation, and for creative theories like Darwin’s theory of evolution, may indeed have, at least a partial, biological explanation: a reduced utilization of that section of the brain which has played such a vital role in humanity’s creative advances—the frontal lobes. By unconditionally obeying religious tenets—or any dogma—some people may be relying on the phylo-genetically older, more posterior portions of the brain that store knowledge and enable consistent or stable behaviors and, unknowingly, circumventing the portion whi

POPSEvolution:24 myths and misconceptions It doesn't matter if people do not understand evolution "Survival of the fittest" justifies "everyone for themselves" Evolution is limitlessly creative Evolution cannot explain traits such as homosexuality Creationism provides a coherent alternative to evolution Creationist myths: Evolution must be wrong because the Bible is inerrant Accepting evolution undermines morality Evolutionary theory leads to racism and genocide Religion and evolution are incompatible Half a wing is no use to anyone Evolutionary science is not predictive Evolution cannot be disproved so is not science Evolution is just so unlikely to produce complex life forms Evolution is an entirely random process Mutations can only destroy information, not create it Darwin is the ultimate authority on evolution The bacterial flagellum is irreducibly complex Yet more creationist misconceptions Evolution violates the second law of thermodynamics

POPSEvonomics Evolution and economics are not just analogous to each other, but they are actually two forms of a larger phenomenon called complex adaptive systems, in which individual elements, parts or agents interact, then process information and adapt their behavior to changing conditions. Immune systems, ecosystems, language, the law and the Internet are all examples of complex adaptive

POPSEvolution of Social Groups: love is important Even as individuals we can take encouragement that small things count. History is the witness of benevolence always washing away the malevolence of the moment, no matter how hateful and powerful it seemed at the time.

POPSGlad to see someone else mentioning it... Too many people seem to believe science gets hard objective answers. It doesn't. And even if it did, the interpretation of the communicated results would necessarily be subjective, based on the previous experience of the recipient.

POPSWhat was the ACTUAL Libby jury's question to Judge
I've read dozens of articles about the question being presented by the jury in the Libby-CIA lead case -- but all they claim to do is 'summarize,' the question. What the heck WAS the actual question. Why can we read that? Why is that not part of the story? Why do we have to always get 'secondhand news.' Since this questions resulted in the judge and more than twenty lawyers thinking about it and discussing it -- with the judge finallly concluding he was sure what it meant! -- well, gosh, wouldn't it be informative to know the actual question, word by word, in quotes. If anybody can provide this info I'd be really grateful. It would give an insight, to me and maybe others, about the complexity of trials, legal issues and legal language, and the routine and yet unusual phenomenon that all these high-priced lawyers and legal Big theory thinkers have to cope with the reality of judgement by regular people. And, I say, the problem is not regular people, but over complex & 2ma
