POPSDid NBC Risk Employee Lives in a Green Agenda Stunt? . . . And if we are successful, we will reach millions of Americans with the story in an unprecedented way. " Translation -- more sham eco shock and awe. The Race to Peak at the Peak By Monday, the team had ascended to Barranco at 13,000 feet. Another eight-hour climb on Tuesday brought them to Arrow Glacier at 15,700 feet, where they laid camp. But while Curry got a view of the mountain's ice cap, Today watchers were treated to one of a haggard looking reporter complaining that the entire crew was experiencing lethargy, severe headaches and fatigue. The acute altitude sickness they'd developed was also causing peripheral edema -- their faces and fingers were quite visibly swollen. And no wonder -- in a rush to summit the mountain for Friday's green week finale, they had broken all rules of altitude acclimatization, starting with Rule #1: Once above 10,000 feet, altitude should be increased no more than 1,000 feet per day.

POPSWill Obama Stop The Goldman to Gov't Express? Specifically, Grassley is concerned about a tax code change that paved the way for the acquisition of Wachovia by Wells Fargo. An ex-Goldman executive was leading Wachovia at the time of that deal. Here's the answer he'll get from Treasury and Paulson: these are dangerous times and anything that was done was for the good of the country. In other words, they'll drag out the old national security argument. Grassley will become a minnow in the next Democrat-controlled Congress. But the Democrats need to take up the baton, turn it into a club and see just what Paulson has been up to. As I've written before, Paulson has admitted that part of his job was to keep in touch with "market participants." Calling his friends on Wall Street - and especially at Goldman - would be an odd extension of the role of Treasury secretary and I certainly would like to know what he felt compelled to tell these folks.

POPSPalin Hogging the Spotlight ... Again. The Republican Governor's Association Conference was meant to show a front of unity, instead it turned into The Sarah Palin Show. One Governor, Billy Jindal of Louisiana boycotted the event.

POPSAl Gore: Climate, Economic Crises Have Same Solution From an op-ed in the NYT . Writes Gore, "Looking ahead, I have great hope that we will have the courage to embrace the changes necessary to save our economy, our planet and ultimately ourselves." It makes sense. Rebuilding our infrastructure to deal with global warming would also be a huge jobs program and a boost to help create new industries. All of this Bush stuff about dealing with emissions being bad for the economy is BS. It's always been BS. I keep saying it's the buggywhip industry complaining about those newfangled horseless carriages. There's no reason to listen to these people. They're just backwards looking defenders of dying industries.

POPSEstate agents told me not to talk: climate expert There might be a little shit to dig up here. Real Estate agents rank somewhere above lawyers in the greed stakes. They also prefer the "celebrity method. All bullshit and no brains. The selfish morons will be out there flogging houses and complaining while armageddon is happening. This is a great house with 360degree water views because it is in the middle of the bloody ocean.

POPSWhy The Left Can't Get It Right Now: "Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you." There is well established pathology which explains why Democrats fuel campaigns with feelings, and if there is one uniformly defining liberal characteristic of Democrat leaders, it would be hypocrisy. Liberals protest economic recession, all the while suppressing economic growth with evermore taxes and regulations. Most of them are card-carrying members of the ignoble ranks of "useful idiots," those Western apologists for Marxist-Leninist-Maoist collectivism. Of course, that card reads: "Member, Democrat National Committee." Liberals advocate diversity, unless your views don't comport with their own doctrines of moral relativism. They want to preserve nature and the natural order but advocate homosexual "marriage." They oppose the death penalty for the most heinous of criminal sociopaths, but they support the execution of unborn children in their mothers' wombs.

POPSThe Parasitic Leech " No, if you take my line of thinking one step further, if you're not a patriot, what does that make you, besides a parasitic leech? Sorry if I'm running this rant aimed at you, Joe, but you were referred to in the debate because you're a modern archetype for right wing libertarian parasitic leeches-- and everything I'm saying about YOU is true for millions of other parasitic leeches who would let people die rather than support the universal health care that every other first world nation provides."

POPSSenator Byrd Rips McCain on Earmarks It takes ear-marks to get back our gas taxes for interstate and highways work. For some reason the federal government taxes at the pump alot but then alots and apportions money to be spent by ear-marks. This is a good example of a necessary and justifiable ear-mark. Note the republican Congresswoman Capito supported this very big ear-mark too, and West Virginians (and alot of truck lines who move freight through the state, and help pay for the interstates also through tolls) are not complaining. McCain lost all credibility on ear-marks when he supported the Bailout Bill absolutely loaded with them. Perhaps McCain's biggest hypocrisy on Earmarks is the enormous earmark spending (he supports) for Israel , instead of for Americans.

POPSMedia's Double Standard I've noticed that the mainstream media still handles McCain with kid gloves. I wonder why that is...? OK, he was a POW, captured by an "enemy" of our government. But why should that give him a one-upmanship over Obama... as far as fair reporting is concerned? Maybe corporate media has more to gain under republican rule or maybe it's just that they fear a McCain attack because they've taken note of how McMean and his Cold-Hearted-VP pick's, mean-spirited, hateful innuendoes launched against Obama have stirred the "Republican base of loathing", to get "physical" with any contrived foe. I believe it's both but they've got the case of the willies when it comes to the ornery right-wing mentality, knowing they might band together and threaten not to buy the goods their sponsors hawk!

POPSSome of the things people do to computers is downright painful. One day a customer called complaining that he just received his computer, but it won't turn on. When he first pushed the power button, the screen flashed and then everything died. I couldn't do much over the phone, so I went to the customer's office. It was plugged in, everything was hooked up ok, but, sure enough, it refused to turn on. I decided to take it back and promised to deliver a new one as soon as possible. But when I went to pick it up, I couldn't. Fearful of thieves, the man had fired some 24 inch bolts straight through the box, through the hard drive, motherboard, everything, locking it to his desk. "Oh," he said, "I thought it was just the TV part that was important. Will my warranty cover this?"
