marc Mohr MW excessive attack
studentmom17
by studentmom17  11-9-2009
hi... I noticed my health going down in MW, which is part of the game... but I when I got down to 25 health points I refilled my life thinking you're not getting any $ from me so you should be close to done... well I was wrong... You continued to attack me totaling 18 attacks... now that IS excessive and I know that my family is not at war so... I am not one to complain when I get attacked... UNLESS it is excessive... then I attempt to contact the person to see if there was a reason for the attacks.. for example I was on the hit list or my family and I are at war... so here we are... now I know I just logged on so I did not attack anyone for them to hit list me... so uh... what happened???

John "the Penguin" Bingham: On whether "slow" runners should be allowed in marathons
Lexica
by Lexica  11-2-2009
More: The Grumpy bar has been pushed back to 4 hours which means, I think, that anyone running UNDER 4 hours is safe from bashing by the new elite. If you extrapolate out it won’t be long before the 5-hour marathoners will be the new elite and they will complain about the slow marathoners. Where will it end? It won’t. As long as there are people who need to use others to feel good about themselves it won’t end. As long as there are people for whom excellence is relative it won’t end. So, I’m not going to worry about it.… Standing at the start line of a marathon – or any race – or any training run – you only have to answer one question; am I prepared to do my best today? And that’s all I have to say about that.

What We Can't Accept
debbyski
by debbyski  11-1-2009
"A corpse is a stark reminder that human beings are inescapably embodied creatures, and that a life is the sum of what has been performed and spoken by the body — a mixture of promises made and broken, deeds done and undone, joys evoked and pain inflicted. When we lift the heavy weight of the coffin and carry the dead over the tile floor of the crematory or across the muddy cemetery to the open grave, we bear public witness that this was a person with a whole and embodied life, one that, even in its ambiguity and brokenness, mattered and had substance. To carry the dead all the way to the place of farewell also acknowledges the reality that they are leaving us now, that they eventually will depart even from our frail communal memory as they travel on to whatever lies beyond. People who have learned how to care tenderly for the bodies of the dead are almost surely people who also know how to show mercy to the bodies of the living."

Real men don't read D.C. pundits
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-31-2009
Even worse than Krauthammer's column today, though, was David Brooks in the New York Times. Partly it's because Brooks likes to pretend to be open-minded and reasonable, while spouting neocon talking points, and occasionally liberals get pulled in by him. But today was trademark lazy ideological Brooks. As Glenn Greenwald notes, unbelievably he bragged about "doing what journalists are supposed to do" -- which he defined as talking to a handful of anonymous pro-war sources, who uniformly criticized Obama's inaction to date on McCrystal's troop request. That's some brave shit. Not quite David Rohde brave, but hey, he made the calls! If it was unanimous, that means he didn't call retired Marine Matthew Hoh, who resigned from a civilian post in Afghanistan this week because he said we can't win, and our presense is only fueling the insurgency. Hoh told the Washington Post's Karen de Young he's "not some peacenik, pot-smoking hippie who wants everyone to be in love" and that he believes

Mark Steyn: Obama a Tough Guy, at Least With Fox News
merrie
by merrie  10-26-2009    2
I don't know why he'd be surprised. When a man has spent his entire adult life in the "community organized" precincts of Chicago, it should hardly be news that much of his Rolodex is made up of either loons or thugs. So when Communications Commissar Mao Ze Dunn starts berating Fox News for not getting into the same Maosketeer costumes as the rest of the press corps, you begin to see why the Chairman might appeal to her as a favorite "political philosopher". So the troika of Dunn, Emanuel and Axelrod were dispatched to the Sunday talk shows to lay down the law. We all know the lines from "The Untouchables" " "the Chicago way," don't bring a knife to a gunfight " and, given the pay czar's instant contract-gutting of executive compensation and the demonization of the health insurers and much else, it's easy to look on the 44th president as an old-style Cook County operator: You wanna do business in this town, you gotta do it through me.

BMW to Cap Executive Pay - wundervoll!
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  10-26-2009
Now let me get this straight. GM, Ford, and Chrysler have all lost market share in the US and complain that worker wages and benefits made them uncompetitive. Germans assembly line workers average $60,000 a year and BMW sales have not plummeted as US car makers have. And now, BMW says they are capping executive pay by establishing the current ration of difference 25-1 as THE ratio. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average U.S. worker earned $29,544. The ratio of CEO pay to average pay is 364:1 and to minimum wage is 885:1. So... Why is it that US car companies have trouble competing?

National Writing Day

by carrerinyes  10-24-2009    9
Now there's the computer and the internet. In the digital age, anyone with a laptop, a wi-fi card, and a place to sit at Starbucks can put material into cyberspace. The digital revolution means everyone's an author, every day is National Writing Day. And this sudden democratizing of the writing process generates its own set of complaints: * it's wrong to give so many people access to authorship -- after all, most people won't be very good at, and some people are going to write things that we don't agree with * computers make writing too easy -- something so important should only come with effort -- no pain, no gain -- maybe we should increase the entrance fees? * we need to control, license, censor what's on the 'net: after all, the web is full of lies, misinformation, nonsense, pornography, fraud, Nigerian money scams, and hate, not to mention all those pictures of little cats But despite the complaints, writers everywhere are grabbing their keyboards...

"Fat Talk" Not Spoken Here
ljsdesign

Fat Talk Free Week encourages women to strive for a healthy ideal and take care of their bodies by focusing on health – not weight or size. The campaign encourages women to let go of the fat talk that plagues our every day conversations and promotes a celebration of things about ourselves that have nothing to do with the way we look. Breaking free from the unrealistic thin ideal of beauty has never been more urgent. Did you know that: * 1 out of 8 adolescent girls reported starving themselves to lose weight * 40% of moms tell their adolescent daughters to diet and 45% of these girls are of average weight * 81% of 10 year old girls are afraid of being fat * 51% of 9 and 10 year old girls feel better about themselves if they are on a diet * More than 2/3 of women ages 18-25 would rather be mean or stupid than be fat * Over 50% of women ages 18-25 would rather be hit by a truck than be fat * 70 million people worldwide struggle with eating disord

“Don’t feed the troll” Simple and surefire rule. Trolls feed on your reactions. Ignore them. Put comments under moderation. This way you can approve or disapprove of inappropriate comments. Don’t be overly sensitive just because they go against what you stood for. Debate is healthy. Ban them. If you have persistent trolls, you might just want to block them. This way they will not be able to wreck havoc as they please. If you remove a post, aren't you preventing free speech? Discussion boards are by design a forum for open communication, a place where the community is encouraged to freely discuss its opinions. Only remove troll posts when they become disruptive to open communication. A troll is actually silencing the voice of a majority of the community members. Ask the troll to take their comments elsewhere.

Just when you think the Banks can’t possibly do more to hurt us... They come out with a lalapalooza... They are now going to charge their credit card customers for... hold on to your proverbial hats... INACTIVITY! I heard this on CNN this morning and I couldn't believe it. Bank of America, yup the ones who received $25 billion from the government's $700 billion financial rescue fund, including $10 billion that would have gone to Merrill had it not been acquired by good old Bank of America. Now, instead of just gouging those who are in debt and over a barrel they are targeting people who have enough income and only use credit cards, as a convenience. The question is, are these financially better off consumers going to take it? Or Are they going to (like the rest of us) GET MAD AS HELL AND NOT GONNA TAKE IT NO MO? I hope they will be strong enough, in numbers, to put these greedy banks in their place… If not there is NO JUSTICE! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It makes sense if you think about it. The closet and under the bed are the two most popular places to hide just about anything, so it's not surprising a hell of a lot of corpses end up there as well. In fact, the odds are pretty good that at least once a guy has killed a prostitute, tried to stuff her under the bed, only to find there was already a body there.

The absurd debate over President Obama's Nobel Prize
Lexica
by Lexica  10-13-2009    2
More: The problem for the addlebrained Obama-rejectionists is that the president, as far as they are concerned, couldn't possibly do anything right and thus is unworthy of any conceivable recognition. If Obama ended all hunger in the world, they'd accuse him of promoting obesity. If he solved global warming, they'd complain it was getting chilly. If he got Mahmoud Abbas and Binyamin Netanyahu to join him around the campfire in a chorus of "Kumbaya," the rejectionists would claim that his singing was out of tune.

Banks often process large payments ahead of small debit card charges made the same day -- a practice sometimes called reordering. It's a safeguard, banks say, to ensure important bills such as mortgage payments get paid off first -- but critics allege that reordering allows banks to increase the number of overdraft charges they collect. It's a "gotcha-type practice," said Greg McBride, senior financial analyst at Bankrate.com I call it "crap" and I don't know how many times I've been hit with compounding overdraft charges. If you keep your receipts, you should be able to prove the order of purchases. But, of course, we all toss them away once we get them. /Still, its a shiatty trick...

I just have a few years left until I can retire. I'm lost my health at the hotel, and all they think about is money. We made them millions of dollars, and they complain about paying insurance.
