The Credit W Deserves
missjackson

In addition, trade with Africa has doubled during Bush's tenure. Yet you don't hear much about his African legacy. Bush came into office promising "compassionate conservatism." And he's largely lived up to that promise, but he gets little or no credit. Aid to Africa is only one aspect of that compassion. This week, an annual report to Congress notes a historic drop in America's number of chronically homeless people over a two-year period: a 30 percent decline between 2005 and 2007. The study showed that a new policy enacted to promote "housing first" for chronically homeless people - most of whom are either mentally ill or substance abusers - actually works. Instead of allowing these individuals to shuttle between the streets, shelters and hospitals in a vicious cycle, the new policy called for intervention to get them into permanent housing.

Compassionate Conservatism ?

". . .too liberal because the goal was to help the poor." Mr. Gerson was a speech writer for Bush until '06. So here is the question for these "Christians"; ever read Matthew 31:46? In part; "For I was hungry and you gave food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink. . " Naked, sick, in prison, sheep, goats and whatnot. I really don't care if you believe or not, that's your business, but even the most secular folks can agree this is probably a decent thing to do. Apparently not high on the agenda for those who are going on about Jesus and ranting about a Christian nation. My Evangelical United Brethren grandmother was pretty emphatic that this passage is the requisite for getting in the Gate. But then, she actually read the book.

729 Days in Iraq: Thanks, See Ya, Wouldn't Want To Be Ya

More: "I would assume, and I would hope, that when I get back from a deployment of 22 months, my senior leadership in Washington, the leadership that extended us in the first place, would take care of us once we got home," Hobot said. Both Hobot and Anderson believe the Pentagon deliberately wrote orders for 729 days instead of 730.

SWIFTBOATING of GORE by US Media: Interview Vanity Fair
righthand
by righthand  9-25-2007    1
"Particularly in presidential elections … we in the press tend to deal in caricatures," says Dan Rather, who was then anchoring for CBS. "Someone draws a caricature, and it's funny and at least whimsical. And at first you sort of say, 'Aw shucks, that's too simple.' In the course of the campaign, that becomes accepted wisdom." He notes, "I do not except myself from this criticism." In 2000, the media seemed to focus on a personality contest between Bush, the folksy Texas rogue, and, as The New York Times referred to Gore, "Eddie Haskell," the insincere brownnoser from Leave It to Beaver. ABC anchor Claire Shipman, who covered the 2000 campaign for NBC, says, "It was almost a drama that was cast before anyone even took a good look at who the candidates were." Bush made it easy—he handed them a character on a plate. He had one slogan—compassionate conservatism—and one promise aimed squarely at denigrating Clinton: to restore honor and integrity to the White House. He was also perce

George W. Bush was literally strong armed into signing legislation while he was governor of Texas that protected poor kids from going without health care. Now that he is president, he is trying to prevent helping poor kids on a national level. Has this man no shame?!?

bush demise of disguise

Yes it is Bush's demise. He fought against religious rule and yet brought in the very Hitler type behaviour in the name of righteousness. He was the wolf in sheep's clothing, maybe he actually was the antichrist who brought our world into world war and the situation of Armeggeddon.

"Have we done compassion or haven't we?"
jklugman
by jklugman  10-19-2006    1
Bush's entire 2000 campaign was organized around the "compassionate conservative" theme. Yet midway through his first term, Bush had no idea whether he was living up to his label--and his aides wouldn't even tell him the truth was quite the opposite.
