POPSObama, Cheney and Bush Related factcheck.org: We wouldn't make too much of this, though. After all, according to at least some researchers, a common ancestor for all humans now alive may have existed just several thousand years ago. That means you, dear reader, could have a cousinly relationship that may not go all that far back to everyone from Jack Kevorkian to Tina Fey to Hugo Chavez to the woman selling trinkets from a piece of cardboard on a Bangalore street corner. Barack Obama related to Brad Pitt, 6 U.S. Presidents, Cheney

POPS'Interplanetary internet' passes first test The new protocol is somewhat different from the one that forms the backbone of the internet, called TCP/IP. On Earth, if some data is lost between a sender and a recipient, the two communicate back and forth until all the information is sent. That 'handshake' works well on Earth, where the network is almost always continuously connected, says Adrian Hooke, team leader at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. But in space, probes pass behind planets and out of range, power outages are common, and distances between planets vary as the planets move in their orbits. In addition, at distances not far beyond the Moon, the time required to beam data between a sender and a recipient makes back-and-forth communication between the two inefficient, says Hooke.

POPSChimps are related to Humans It seems that genetically Chimpanzees are very closely related to human beings and are to be classified as "homo" in the future. I hope they don't make the same mistakes as humans as they evolve!!

POPSScientists Develop New Computational Method To Investigate Origin Of Life "Retroelements are an ancient and highly diverse class of proteins; therefore, they provide a rigorous benchmark for us to test our approach. We are happy with the results we derived, even though our method is in an early stage," said Patterson. The team plans to make the algorithms that they used in their method available to others as open-source software that is freely available on the Web. Scientists map out the evolutionary histories of organisms by comparing their genetic and/or protein sequences. Those organisms that are closely related and share a recent common ancestor have greater degrees of similarity among their sequences.

POPSEducating evolution It is so amazing that after so many years and progress; educating youth about evolution is still considered revolutionary. this must be evolved :)

POPSScientists map Neanderthal maternal DNA 38,000 years wasn't that long ago. They became extinct shortly afterward (as far as we know) after dwindling around Western Europe. It's easy to wonder what may have happened if they were isolated in an area that was free of Homo sapiens sapiens (So smart that we have to repeat it to ourselves to remove any doubt.)

POPSSnakes reveal deadly fang secrets Rather than develop independently, as some had argues, evidence suggests that the jaw and venom developed, and then fang position evolved as the fangs began to move around on the jaw, the different placements being a likely response to the types of prey or predators that shared the snakes' environments.

POPSAlexander The Great he began to organize the territory into a realm such as he envisioned. His early death brought an end to his plans. Alexander was born in Pella, capital of Macedonia. His father was Philip II of Macedon, who had conquered Greece; his mother was Olympias, a princess from Epirus. Aristotle was Alexander's tutor, and the literature of Greece was his inspiration. The handsome youth took Achilles of Homer's Iliad, a reputed ancestor, as his hero. Alexander's teachers in military science were his father's generals. When he was only 16, he commanded forces in military actions against hill tribes.

POPSHumanity Was Genetically Divided For 100,000 Years the study provides insight into the early demographic history of human populations before they moved out of Africa. “These early human populations were small and isolated from each other for many tens of thousands of years,” says Rosset. MtDNA, inherited down the maternal line, was used in 1987 to discover the age of the famous “Mitochondrial Eve,” the most recent common female ancestor of everyone alive today. This work has since been extended to show unequivocally that “Mitochondrial Eve” was an African woman who lived sometime during the past 200,000 years.

POPSOut of Africa not once, but twice Only twice? Humans are curious creatures. I imagine wandering, and far horizons would have triggered their imaginations and their spread. Not mentioning the fact that humans are prolific breeders. They seem to be trying define something too narrowly that was perhaps a regular sequence. When the place get's too crowded it can be easy to move on and find some clear land, but all you can really say is, here we are.

POPSSmallest Pterodactyl lived in trees About the size of a sparrow, they wondered if it may have been a baby, but the bones were well developed. They also found what may have been it,s last meal in it's stomach, but they are yet to confirm this. While birds are not thought to be descended from pterosaurs, it seems likely they had a close common ancestor.

POPSWhen is a shrew not a shrew? "Elephant shrews are only found in Africa. They were originally described as shrews because they superficially resembled shrews in Europe and in America."

POPSCommon Misconceptions This articlecovers a broad field of misconceptions, such as geography, health, even food. Evolution is, to me, the most interesting.

POPSFounder of a Cancerous Genetic Disorder If you have polyps and are wondering if you belong to the family with the colorectal founder gene, I would imagine that these are people who would have settled on the Connecticut River or other areas where the Dutch did not have settlements. That thesis is dependent on the family being English and not Dutch. If they sailed from England, the assumption is that they were English. Well, at least it is a start to help you learn more.

POPSFrat-boy ritualism and the ancient Maya Dude, check this out! The more things change, the more they stay the same: rich kids on the Yucatan drinking until they puke: apparently this was a strong tradition even before the advent of "Spring Break." In all seriousness, most of the hippies who like to talk about "spiritual power zones" of the ancient world, and the serene wisdom of the Maya know nothing of what they are talking about. It looks to me like a Mayan religious leader probably had more in common with John Belushi than Ghandi.
