POPSHow George Washington's Savvy Won The Day Fighting force. Washington's vision was vindicated in the winter of 1776-77, as his Army, often working with militias, scored quick-hitting successes at Trenton, Princeton, and other parts of New Jersey. Washington even made the best of a painful setback after the British conquest of the nation's capital, Philadelphia. Settling in for a hard winter at Valley Forge, Pa., Washington built a distinctively American fighting force even while exercising political skills that allowed him to overcome insubordinate rivals in the Army and to mollify critics in the Continental Congress. Just as important, he had won the lasting support of America's civilian authorities, to whom he returned all power at war's end. Hearing of that gesture, Britain's King George III said that Washington would be the greatest man in history if it was true.

POPSAdmiral Mullen is Wrong There are some soldiers that are adamantly against an activist foreign policy. They are individuals that would share the philosophy in this regard with Patrick Buchanan. Foreign policy is an area that falls completely within the purview of the Executive Branch. It would be completely inappropriate for a soldier to "campaign" for one of the candidates because that candidate is less interventionist or more interventionist. No we get to the "elephant in the living room." I am a senior Officer in the United States Army who has attended the senior service colleges. I have served in a multitude of command, instructor and staff positions over two decades.

POPSObama Rejects Clark's Statement As I posted at the time, Clark's argument was valid, but " probably not the smartest thing to say ." While pointing out that McCain's military experience never really included life or death command decisions, Clark said, "I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president." Not really the best way to put that.

POPSWesley Clark Takes Swipe at McCain's Military Experience Probably not the smartest thing to say, but the fact is that McCain's claim that his military experience makes him a better leader is kind of a sham. McCain never had command and never made strategy decisions. Just being in the military doesn't automatically give you leadership experience -- you kind of have to had actually led. Which, BTW, Clark has done.

POPSArmy Slams Iraq Occupation Plan Of course, Franks wasn't the only one who insisted the "major fighting was over." The President himself gave a big speech from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, where he said almost those same words exactly ; "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended." Tommy Franks wasn't the only one with a terribly simplistic view of the occupation of Iraq. Of course, he'll take the flack for it. Everyone's busy pretending GWB doesn't exist now.

POPS"Institutionally racist" MET is sued by leading Muslim police chief for racial discrimination!! Ghaffur is the latest senior ethnic minority officer to decide to sue the Met for discrimination. Dizaei, who is a commander in the Met, received a payout in his case, while the case of Shabir Hussain is still being heard. Personal, I believe the reason for the discrimination is due to his opposing the Labour government in its repressive Bush inspired 42 day detention period that is tearing the Labour party apart and will do for Brown. Another legacy of Bush's 9/11.

POPS Suicidal Mystics With Nukes After more UN sanctions were threatened, Ahmadinejad stated: As God promised, the oppressors will have their noses rubbed in the dirt. Now they are fulfilling this promise by themselves... Let it be known that in whatever we do, I see the hand of God and the hidden imam at every moment. The expansion is driven by an apocalyptic vision: that Shiite Islam's long-hidden 12th Imam, or Mahdi, will soon emerge -- possibly at the mosque of Jamkaran -- to inaugurate the end of the world. The man who provided $20 million to prepare the shrine for that moment, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has reportedly told his cabinet that he expects the Mahdi to arrive within the next two years.
