Obama Pledges ACTION
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  12-19-2009    1
Obama restated his mission to craft policy that will cut CO2 emissions in America by 80 percent before 2050 – an act that will completely devastate the economyand herald a new great depression as we have previously documented. He also said that $100 billion dollars would be mobilized for climate financing by 2020, the vast majority of which will come from a global tax on financial transactions and a GDP tax, as we have highlighted. Obama said the ability to “take collective action is in doubt right now,” admitting that the success of the conference “hangs in the balance.” Upset at the fact that the Copenhagen agenda is stalling, Obama is busily attempting to engineer an agreement via a series of behind closed doors meetings with world leaders. “President Barack Obama and world leaders are holding another impromptu meeting in search of a climate deal,” reports the Associated Press. “Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said Friday that Obama was meeting behind closed doors with the

Obama comes across as a gullible sap
pkronfield

Not since Carter have I been so embarrassed by our elected president. But of course many of the fools who voted for this Kenyan-born muslim trojan horse aren't old enough to remember Carter, and his hand wringing in the rose garden, his battle with the killer rabbit, and 24% interest rates coupled with hyper inflation and gas lines.

Could the Global Meltdown Spark a Great Revolution?
brightlight4
by brightlight4  8-4-2009    6
Today, throughout the world, peasants, workers, indigenous peoples, and students are galvanized into movements that are challenging state power rooted in global norms of neoliberalism. New movements have gained greater traction with the legitimacy and strength of a global collective behind them, rather than as isolated protests. The oppressed are framing new narratives of liberation to contest power on a state and international level: whether peasants in Latin America or India struggling for land reform; indigenous peoples mobilizing resistance for official recognition of their rights; or workers and students throughout the world waging unauthorized strikes and sit-ins, and taking to the streets in support of democracy and equality.

Fix the economy? Curb corporate America
brightlight4
by brightlight4  7-24-2009
But there are two huge impediments to accomplishing this. This is not a traditional economics problem, it is an organizing problem or a collective action problem. People know the system is rigged and broken and unjust, but they feel as if there is very little that any one of them can do to effect much change. The organizing task is further complicated by the fact that our media, including television networks, cable TV, radio, newspapers, and magazine and book publishing, are almost all sponsored, owned and controlled by big corporations. The only hope is the Internet, over which big business has tried but to date failed to successfully exert its dominance. The Internet will prove to be both a source of unbiased news and information as well as the communication tool concerned citizens can utilize to fight back against big government, big business and big media. What has to happen to get this movement started? First, I think people need to see that there is a channel being constructed

Twitter: Part of NBA Draft History?
dgreplay
by dgreplay  6-25-2009
The NBA entry draft has come a long way. When the NBA decided to hold the first draft lottery in 1985 the league was entering the height of what many consider its golden era with Magic, Bird, Dr. J, and of course MJ. I mostly remember the look on Dave DeBusschere's face when he realized the Knicks had won the lottery - the right to select Patrick Ewing. But, I think what stood out more was the broadcast, it literally looked like your local station's nightly "pick 6" studio remote...ping pong balls and all. That's it. So much interest and simply no chance for average fans to be part of the action. Fast forward to tonight. Now, you can interact with other fans, current and former NBA players, and even celebrities in real-time on Twitter...now thats what I call access.

Is a Future withou War Possible - Si, se puede!

“…we need to end it at the point of where it is created each day anew: in our daily living conditions, in the constant stress of mindless and monotonous work, in the methods of profit maximizing and distribution, in offices and factories, in schools and families, in the tragedies of love, in our ideas about being either man or woman, in sexuality and love and in the cages of our professional, social and sensual life which are all far too small. Do we want that the youth of the world no longer goes to war? If so, we need a higher aim in life, a life worth living and better opportunities to put the power of the youth into meaningful action. Do we wish to end the worldwide sexual violence? If so, we have to create living conditions under which sexual joy is experienced without violence, without humiliation and without unnecessary restrictions. Do we want to free the world from despotism, betrayal and lies? If so, then let us build up concrete conditions under which despotism, betray

Israel Using Cluster Bombs on Gaza
blueridge
by blueridge  1-4-2009    11
Cluster bombs do not "target" militants tightly, urban areas especially. "Collateral damage" is absolutely guaranteed. More evidence that Israel is not making war on just Hamas, but Palestinians in their "collective punishment" tactics. The first pic was posted on Drudge. The last link in this clipmark has posted the CNN video showing general news of the Israeli attacks on Gaza which inadvertantly captured these bombs in action. 93 nations have banned them, except for US, Russia, and Israel.

Is This Your Paper On Single Serving Sites?
Lexica
by Lexica  12-13-2008
More: These sites, which writer Jason Kottke termed “single serving sites” in February 20081, capture visitors’ attention for a fraction of a minute, a tacit acknowledgement of the economy of attention in which they operate. In this space they express many traditional messages that have found an emerging new form of expression on the Internet. Dozens of tiny, single serving sites provide a venue for pop culture references, inside jokes, art displays, collective action, bids for peer approval, humor, and advice. Collectively they offer a perspective on the web as a platform for a unique brand of storytelling.

Noble Spirit of 1948 Declaration of Human Rights DEAD in Zionist State!!!
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  12-5-2008    3
The right to freedom of movement enshrined in article 13 of the universal declaration also remains a distant hope for many Palestinians. The inhumane blockade of Gaza - which, as many senior UN officials have said, collectively punishes 1.5 million people - and over 600 physical obstacles to movement in the West Bank are a sad reminder of the world community's failure to stand by that article. With an estimated 10,000 Palestinians in Israeli prisons, including some 325 children, the declaration that "everyone has the right to liberty and security of person" and that no one shall be subjected to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment has a sad resonance today. Compounding these abuses are statistics that attest to the lack of protection of social and economic rights. An unprecedentedly high number of Gazans - more than half - now live below the deep poverty line. ...Guardian

UN: Georgians Effectively Blocked from Homes
merrie
by merrie  8-30-2008    3
On Saturday, Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., a member of the chamber's foreign relations committee, visited Gori to observe the distribution of U.S. food aid. Asked whether the United States was considering new military aid, Corker said "these subjects are part of a longer and mid-term discussion" when Congress reconvenes in September. Russia supplies the EU with about a third of its oil and about two-fifths of its natural gas. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said European nations should adopt a united energy policy to avoid becoming too dependent on Russia. He said the EU nations should "use our collective bargaining power." "Without urgent action we risk sleepwalking into an energy dependance on less stable or reliable partners," Brown wrote in The Observer newspaper. Brown said he spoke with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev by telephone Saturday, and told the Russian leader "to expect a determined European response" to the crisis.

Operation Brimstone
sahara
by sahara  7-23-2008
Operation Brimstone boasts two striking features: 1. It will include for the first time units of the US Expeditionary Combat Command, who are trained to operate in shallow coastal waters and rivers, such as the coastal waters of the Persian Gulf and the small islands around its chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Revolutionary Guards marine units are posted on these islands. The international force will have to control the islands to ensure oil shipping freed passage out to world markets. 2. The Roosevelt’s decks will for the first time host French Rafale fighter jets which will share space with US warplanes, while the only French carrier Charles de Gaulle undergoes maintenance.

The Next Renaissance
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  7-16-2008    2
The next renaissance (if there is one)—the phenomenon we're talking about or at least around here is not about the individual at all, but about the networked group. The possibility for collective action. The technologies we're using—the biases of these media—cede central authority to decentralized groups. Instead of moving power to the center, they tend to move power to the edges. Instead of creating value from the center—like a centrally issued currency—the network creates value from the periphery.
