POPS13 Things That Don't Make Sense: The Most Baffling Scientific Mysteries of Our Time [BOOK]
In the past, similar "anomalies" have revolutionized our world, like in the sixteenth century, when a set of celestial anomalies led Copernicus to realize that the Earth goes around the sun and not the reverse, and in the 1770s, when two chemists discovered oxygen because of experimental results that defied all the theories of the day. And so, if history is any precedent, we should look to today’s inexplicable results to forecast the future of science. In 13 Things That Don’t Make Sense , Michael Brooks heads to the scientific frontier to meet thirteen modern-day anomalies and discover tomorrow’s breakthroughs. The chapter on free will (and why it probably doesn't exist) is fascinating, with MASSIVE social implications for an entire justice system built on the premise of personal responsibility for our actions. A highly interesting book that will make you think. "Science starts to get interesting when things don’t make sense. "

POPSCold Fusion is Hot again (CBS) 60 Minutes wondered what Richard Garwin would think of the Defense Department's appraisal. "The experiments leave 'no doubt that anomalous, excess heat is produced,'" Pelley told Garwin. Watch the video !

POPS DC Liberals An Incoherent Bunch Of Eff-Ups
a high tech leap that has any number of offshoots - and it has been cancelled. In this tsunami of government spending, the opportunity to harness nuclear fusion based power has been ended, replaced with dog runs and bike paths in the Spendulus pork buster bill! How did this happen? Here is an overview on the program and its potential: The sun and the stars burn hot in the cold, infinite depths of space because of nuclear fusion, where hydrogen atoms combine to form heavier elements with the release of energy. If mankind could harness this fusion process, we would have nearly unlimited fuel with little or no pollution. Although fusion has been achieved in the hydrogen bomb, researchers have been looking for over 50 years to tame it for electrical power. Taking up the daunting challenge, the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is embarked on a program to reach this goal by using a new technology. http://www.saic.com/news/saicmag/2004-summer/fusion.html

POPSPhysicist Claims First Real Demonstration of Cold Fusion "Arata and Zhang demonstrated very successfully the generation of continuous excess energy from ZrO2-nano-Pd sample powders under D2 gas charging and generation of helium-4," Takahashi told New Energy Times. "The demonstrated live data looked just like data they reported in their published papers . This demonstration showed that the method is highly reproducible."

POPSSwedes to use body heat to warm offices Instead of generating more heat, we can find ways of recirculating heat we already have. Body heat can keep an igloo warm. If only they could find a way to recycle some of the heat that is produced while running an internal combustion engine. Surely it's just a matter of approaching the problem in the right way. Maybe they just need to perfect cold fusion.

POPSWe have the technology to neutralize the greenhouse effect! Continuation: ...But we're not going to be waiting for Maitreya and the Masters to give us the technology to make these changes. We can't just sit back and say: "They're going to give us the technology to clean up the planet, so we don't have to do anything." BC: When we accept the principle of sharing, and when that process is actually working out in the world, we will be given the gift of new technologies. I do not mean that we will be given an instrument and shown how to use it. We will be given the secrets of how to create this technology. Then our advanced scientists will develop it. There is a new technology the cold fusion process that is in the offing. I would say that in a very few years from now cold fusion will produce a rather large proportion of the earth's energy needs. But after that there is another technology which Maitreya calls the Technology of Light which will provide unlimited energy for all our needs. ...

POPSExtraordinary evidence in Science Apparently, some collagen was found in a T-Rex bone and it allowed scientists to get a protein sequence from it that shows Rex is probably related to birds. I like this comment because it does show something about the burden of proof and how science takes it very seriously. They're not always right, but they'll work hard to find the truth. Basically if a scientist claims something extraordinary, then they're going to give you the extraordinary proof. I think to do otherwise would make the scientist in question look really, really stupid. Cold fusion, anyone?
