POPSI’m a Modern Man--CLASSIC GEORGE CARLIN
I'm in the moment, on the edge, over the top, but under the radar. A high-concept, low-profile, medium-range ballistic missionary. A street-wise smart bomb. A top-gun bottom-feeder. I wear power ties, I tell power lies, I take power naps, I run victory laps. I'm a totally ongoing, big-foot, slam-dunk rainmaker with a pro-active outreach. A raging workaholic, a working rageaholic; out of rehab and in denial. I've got a personal trainer, a personal shopper, a personal assistant, and a personal agenda. You can't shut me up; you can't dumb me down. 'Cause I'm tireless, and I'm wireless. I'm an alpha-male on beta-blockers. I'm a non-believer, I'm an over-achiever; Laid-back and fashion-forward. Up-front, down-home; low-rent, high-maintenance. I'm super-sized, long-lasting, high-definition, fast-acting, oven-ready and built to last. A hands-on, footloose, knee-jerk head case; prematurely post-traumatic, and I have a love child who sends me hate-mail. But I'm

POPSMe And My Girls "But was it really all thus? When memory is called to answer, it often answers back with deception. How is it that almost every warm bar stool contains a hero, a star of his own epic, who is the sum of his amazing stories? If I said I was a fat thug who beat up women and sold bad coke, would you like my story? What if instead I wrote that I was a recovered addict who obtained sole custody of my twin girls, got us off welfare and raised them by myself, even though I had a little touch of cancer? Now we’re talking. Both are equally true, but as a member of a self-interpreting species, one that fights to keep disharmony at a remove, I’m inclined to mention my tenderhearted attentions as a single parent before I get around to the fact that I hit their mother when we were together. We tell ourselves that we lie to protect others, but the self usually comes out looking damn good in the process. "

POPSRetro Ice Machine - Ice Cube Maker This soda ice machine not only looks good, it is also easy to use and it does a great job of making good looking ice cubes, in a very short amount of time. To operate the vending ice machine, you will simply have to plug it into an outlet. For the next step, you will fill the tank with clean water and wait fifteen minutes.

POPSThe Thing in a Jar!!! This is right up my alley. When I worked in FX, we'd make "things" all the time. Usually we would put it in a place where our poor victim would either have it touch him or confront him in an unexpected manner. I want to point out that NO ONE was ever hurt by these pranks, at least, NOT the pranks I was in on. Safety is extremely important as well as knowing when the Mark has had enough and knowing not to take a prank farther than a certain limit. I DO NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO PULL ANY MALICIOUS PRANKS AND NEVER TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS!

POPSInnumeracy's John Allen Paulos on credulity and love A great post from 3quarksdaily (Feb. 2008) about the human desire to believe in something, even a fraud. Context: Paulos has put together a book debunking probabilistic arguments for God's existence. The clip doesn't do it justice -- RTWT ("read the whole thing").

POPSThat Wacky Century - Part IX (1985-2000) Yes. We all agree that the NASA jokes about the disaster were in poor taste but I swear that I heard the first one less than 24 hours after the explosion! New Coke, Three Mile Island and Chernobyl?? Hmm. I am glad I am allergic to Coke!

POPSCollateral Damage What It Really Means When America Goes to War
Civilians and combatants, in the eyes of the beleaguered troops, merge into one entity. These civilians, who rarely interact with soldiers or Marines, are to most of the occupation troops in Iraq nameless, faceless, and easily turned into abstractions of hate. They are dismissed as less than human. It is a short psychological leap, but a massive moral leap. It is a leap from killing — the shooting of someone who has the capacity to do you harm — to murder — the deadly assault against someone who cannot harm you. The war in Iraq is now primarily about murder. There is very little killing. The savagery and brutality of the occupation is tearing apart those who have been deployed to Iraq. As news reports have just informed us, 115 American soldiers committed suicide in 2007. This is a 13% increase in suicides over 2006. And the suicides, as they did in the Vietnam War years, will only rise as distraught veterans come home, unwrap the self-protective layers of cotton wool that keep them

POPSEngRish = Japanese English More from the site here " 4. The Japanese inability to pronounce various vowel sounds found in the English language. The Japanese language contains only 5 basic vowel sounds: "a" as in "ah", "i" as in "eee", "u" pronounced like "ooo", "e" pronounced like "eh", and "o" pronounced like "oh". Such confusion in vowel sounds can lead to examples like "fack you!" in place of "f*ck you", etc. Grammatical mistakes vary but there are a few common errors that English teachers in Japan see on a daily basis: 1. Using a noun as a verb with "Let's" as in: "Let's beer" or "Let's Kiosk" 2. Redundant wording such as: "Let's play with me!" 3. Dispense with connecting words. Example: "I feel Coke"
