The underground world of “neuroenhancing” drugs
taoguide
by taoguide  4-24-2009    1
But it’s not the mind-expanding sixties anymore. Every era, it seems, has its own defining drug. Light Me Up
Moliticon
by Moliticon  4-22-2009    2
Neuroenhancement is not a goal for those prescribed these drugs for ADD/ADHD. The goals are freedom from distraction and impulsiveness. It concerns me that more profligate use might impact the availability of drugs for this legitimate purpose.

More Students Turning Illegally To 'Smart' Drugs
ofcapri
by ofcapri  2-5-2009    5
One student says she took her first Adderall during her freshman year when she was cramming for tests. She and other students asked that their names not be used because using or selling these drugs without a prescription is a felony. "I would take it, and in about a half an hour, all of a sudden, looking at my journal which had all my assignments, I'd look at it and say, cool, OK," she says. "And I'd start to get more excited about work."

'Memory pill' could be available soon
balthazarus
by balthazarus  1-19-2009    4
"The reality is we're not always at our best. After being up at night looking after the kids or travelling, many people would love to have something to sharpen them up. It's not taboo to drink Red Bull. The principle with cognition enhancers is not so different."

What do you think? Do you already use some substance -- say, marijuana or a prescription painkiller -- not for how it makes you feel, but how it influences your behavior toward other people? Do you consider this "moral pharmacology"?
